The alpha’s son
She knelt in front of Lucas. “Sweetie, you better go to the laundry room and wait for me, okay?”
Lucas held her hand. “Don’t worry, Mommy. I’ll go find Daddy.”
Elena blinked. “Lucas…?”
But before she could stop him, he ran off.
She turned back to the sink just as Jennifer stormed into the kitchen.
SLAP.
Jennifer’s hand hit her face so hard she stumbled against the sink.
“You little bitch!” Jennifer shouted. “How dare you break my vase?! That was a gift from Alpha Walter!”
Harrison sat in the back seat of the black car while Luke drove through the Red Moon Pack territory. Rain tapped lightly on the windows.
Luke glanced back at him. “Alpha… are you sure you want to go to Mathew’s engagement party?”
Harrison stared out the window. “What are you trying to say?”
Luke shrugged. “You’ve hated him ever since… well, since your mother had that affair with his father when you were kids. I just thought you’d skip this.”
Harrison snapped his head toward him. “Shut up, Luke.”
“…Sorry, Alpha.”
Harrison took a breath, calmed down.
“I’m not here for Mathew,” he said slowly. “Don’t you remember? I told you, I found my mate.”
When they reached the estate, Luke stepped out first and opened his door. The rain was coming down harder now. He held up the umbrella to cover Harrison.
They walked up the stone steps.
Just as Harrison reached the main entrance…
A small figure ran straight into his legs.
He looked down.
A little boy with soaking wet curls wrapped his arms around his waist and held him tight.
“Daddy!” the boy cried out.
The word hit Harrison like thunder.
“Daddy!” the boy cried again, his small arms locked tight around Harrison’s waist, as if he’d been waiting all his life for this moment.
Luke’s eyes widened. He almost dropped the umbrella.
Harrison froze. His chest rose and fell. He looked down, slowly, at the boy.
The child lifted his head, eyes glowing faintly gold through the rain. “I knew it,” he whispered, his voice shaky but sure. “Mommy said you weren’t here, but… I knew I’d find you.”
Harrison’s hand trembled as he reached out, almost afraid to touch him. “Why… Why are you calling me that?”
Lucas blinked, confused by the question. “Because… you’re my daddy.”
Luke’s jaw dropped. “Alpha…?”
He leaned down, resting his hands on his knees. “Hey, kid… Do you even know who I am?”
“You’re my daddy,” he said. “I’m not wrong.”
Harrison blinked, stunned. “There’s no way I can be your…”
“My mommy’s in trouble!” the boy cried, tugging on his hand. “We have to go save her!”
Without thinking, Harrison let him pull him through the doors.
“Luke,” he said sharply, “find out what the hell is going on. I’m following the kid.”
“Yes, Alpha!”
In the kitchen Jennifer’s voice was like poison.
“You dare break my vase!” she screamed, storming into the kitchen like a rabid wolf.
Elena turned around calmly, keeping her voice soft. “I didn’t break your vase.”
Jennifer marched up and raised her hand to slap her again, but this time, Elena caught her wrist mid-air.
Jennifer froze, shocked.
“Don’t touch me,” Elena said. Her voice didn’t shake.
Jennifer’s eyes narrowed. “You lowly maid… how dare you!” Her rage exploded. “You had Mathew lock me up for two days! I haven’t even started settling the score with you yet!”
She turned to two other maids standing nearby, girls who always followed her out of fear.
“You two, hold her down!”
“What?” Elena whispered, backing up.
They grabbed her roughly, forcing her forward.
Her head was shoved onto the cold kitchen table. Her heart pounded.
“Let me go!” she shouted, trying to struggle.
Jennifer lifted a flower kettle and poured freezing water over Elena's face, laughing so loudly.
“Why?” Elena gasped. “Why are you always after me?”
Elena leaned in close, hissing, “Are you scared I’ll take Mathew from you?”
“Scared?” Jennifer let out a cruel laugh. “You’re a joke. But I’ll make sure no one ever looks at your face again.”
She grabbed a sharp knife from the counter.
“Let’s see how many men you can seduce after I carve your face out.”
Elena froze.
Jennifer raised the knife to cut Elena’s face…
