Chapter 5 ~Moon's Test~
Fiona's POV
I woke up feeling dizzy the next morning. I wasn't sure if last night was a dream, but the dull ache in my right leg reminded me it wasn't.
I smiled to myself, using the duvet to cover my head. I couldn't stop thinking about the silver Alpha wolf that saved me. His scent still lingered, very familiar. Those golden eyes, the dominance, the protec…
“Hey kiddo, why did you cover your head with the blanket? Isn't it hot?” My stepdad walking into my room broke off my fantasizing.
“Oh hey, morning dad.” I removed the duvet and stood up quickly.
“I came to check up on you. How's the leg?”
I looked down to see he'd bandaged it. Slowly, I unwrapped the bandage and looked at the wound. It was nearly healed, and not very painful.
That was weird because a rogue's bite was fatal, or at the very least came with a curse and severe pain.
Except… Maybe it began healing when the Alpha wolf licked it, hmm…
“Wow, it's almost gone. That was pretty fast. Next time don't run in the woods, it's unsafe.”
“Sure.” I muttered and then remembered why I went in the first place. “How's the flu?”
He smiled tiredly. “Much better. I'm off to work. Breakfast is on the table.”
“Bye.” I walked him to the door and watched him leave.
I went to my mom's room afterwards and adjusted her feeding tubes.
I spent the most part of the day thinking about the Alpha wolf, which was ridiculous, especially because I'd just been rejected by one.
But there was something special about this one, something almost familiar. But after Beckett, I'd subconsciously decided not to lose my guard with love anymore.
I made lunch and put a few of my clothes in the washing machine. I'd decided I would go to school. I'd already missed so many days, and besides, I was feeling much better.
The clothesline was free, so I spread my clothes there.
I snapped my head fast when I heard a rustle, my werewolf instincts kicking in.
I couldn't help but feel like someone, or something was watching me. And it made me very uneasy.
Later in the evening, I decided to take a walk to the grocery store. Walmart was filled, but I was able to get a few toiletries and new notebooks for school.
I walked back home as soon as I was done shopping. It looked like it would rain any moment from now.
At some point, my leg began throbbing slightly, and I regretted not taking a cab. On my way, along the alley, I heard a faint cry from a distance.
It sounded like that of a baby. I followed the scent and voice, and it led me to a dumpster.
I looked into the trash can and what I saw next made me drop all my shopping bags.
“What!”
It was a baby, covered in ants and trash, dumped into the rubbish bin. The baby had begun wailing by now, probably hungry and uncomfortable from the smell.
I picked the baby out of the trash can and quickly ordered a cab home.
The cab diver was throwing cursory glances at me and the baby throughout the ride.
“Oh, it's my niece, she just… you know how kids can be. Hehe.” I laughed awkwardly, dismissing the baby's smell and looks.
When the cab pulled up to my house, I paid the driver and took the baby in.
In a few minutes, I washed and fed her with some baby formula. I changed her into one of my baby clothes I found tucked in my dad's drawer.
“Okay, what next?” I breathed out, exhausted. The baby was cooing happily by now, well fed and clean.
I began searching my desktop for the nearest orphanage, thankfully I was able to find one.
“Sacred Heart Motherless home.” I muttered to myself.
In a short time, I ordered another cab and was dropped at the orphanage.
After protocol and questions, I handed the baby over to the nun there.
“Bless you, child.” The old lady smiled warmly at me. The baby was tucked in now and sleeping. “This is a very kind act you've performed. It's unfortunate that so many teen moms have taken to abortions and discarding kids these days.”
“It's alright, ma. I have to go now.”
“Won't you stay back for dinner?” She offered.
I declined politely. I needed to hurry home before my dad got there before me.
When I slept in the night, I had my second vision from the moon goddess. She had the same effect as the first time, full of bright light and ethereal.
“Moon goddess." I curtseyed.
“Congratulations, Fiona, daughter of Arya.” She was smiling beautifully at me.
Huh?
“You have passed the test.”
"What test, moon goddess?" I asked, confused.
“The baby that you saved, that was a test from me. You have successfully unlocked the quest of a second chance mate.”
I couldn't believe my ears.
“After the rejection from your fated mate and best friend, I have given you a chance to redeem and to save your mother. You will meet another Alpha, which will help you unlock your Luna powers.”
I was so elated. “After this, I get to save my mom, right?”
“It's not as easy as that, but with determination and acting promptly, you will be able to unlock the peak Luna powers needed to save your mom from the Lycan curse.”
I froze. “A Lycan cursed my mom?” I never knew.
Who was the Lycan and why did they curse her?
The vision ended there. I woke up covered in cold sweat and made a hard decision.
“I would bond with the Alpha only to unlock my Luna powers and save my mother. After that, I'll sever the bond.”
There was no way my heart was getting broken again. Not on my watch.
