Chapter 6 ~The Contract~
Fiona's POV
I woke up dreading the thought of going to school after missing a week. The thought of seeing Cassia and some other members of the Ashridge pack was the last thing I needed.
But the moon goddess's promise consoled me.
My leg had completely healed overnight, all thanks to my savior Alpha.
I took a deep breath as I made my breakfast cereal.
“I'll drop you off Fiona. I have a meeting with Marvel comics today.”
“Wow. That's huge.” I grinned.
My stepdad's jeep pulled up in the school parking lot.
I noticed that students clustered in small groups, whispering and giggling like they were sharing the world's greatest secret.
“What's happening, kiddo?” My dad's face looked as puzzled as mine.
“I'm not sure.” I was apprehensive and didn't know what to expect.
“Anyway, have a great day at school.”
As I walked to the hallway, there were still students chattering around their lockers.
“What's going on?” I asked a student in my AP statistics class.
She shrugged and adjusted her glasses. “Xander Theon Grayson was dumped by his girlfriend, Nova, in the parking lot this morning.”
“What?” It was the last thing I was expecting to hear. They were all lovey-dovey at the playoffs, so how did that happen?
“Worse still, there's another playoff with Salvador High today.”
“Oh, thanks for the info. See you in class.”
I attended the playoffs to see whether Xander would play, but like I expected, he was absent.
There was a buzz among the students when the game announcer called in the lead player.
“Starting forward for Northvale Titans is number 19, Damon Griffin.”
“Xander is absent.”
“I wonder how today's game will go.”
“Damon Griffin? We're cooked.”
These were the comments I could pick from the bleachers.
After the 2.5-hour game, Northvale lost 2-4. The student body wore defeated looks as we all dispersed to the hallway after the game.
I couldn't help but worry about Xander, and why Nova had broken up with him. Where was he?
My thoughts were interrupted when someone bumped into me, making my books fall to the floor.
It was Cassia. Apparently, she'd made new friends from the pack. Three girls.
She lowered her voice when she spoke, so that other students wouldn't hear. Her tone was condescending. “Hey, Luna.”
Her new friends laughed and hollered at her sarcasm. “Dumb bitch.”
My face burned red at the humiliation, but I had nothing to say, so I bent down quietly and picked up my books and went to class.
When the lunch bell rang, I moved to the library. There was no way I was going to be stuck in the same cafeteria as my best friend, who'd turned her back on me. I'd rather eat in the toilet.
My chest still hurt from her mean comments, and when I got to the library, I finally let it out and began to cry.
I cried for a long time until I felt drowsy and fell into a deep sleep.
I woke up to the sound of the library bell going off.
What the hell…
A glance at the clock told me the time was 5pm. I'd overslept and school had long closed, leaving only a few students that came for after hour study.
I quickly grabbed my belongings and walked out of the school gates. I was feeling much refreshed after the sleep and at this point, ‘Fuck you, Cassia!’.
I was a few meters from school when a Ford mustang drove past me at high speed.
It came to a screeching stop a few steps in front.
I creased my brows, wondering who was in the car and why it stopped.
A tall, broad-chested Xander stepped out of the car. “Fiona?”
“Xander.” I stopped in my tracks. I wasn't expecting it to be him.
“Come in. I'll give you a ride.”
I hopped in without protesting.
His car smelt like him, clean and minty. The ride was relatively quiet, but my heart was beating at being in such close proximity to him.
I stole a few glances at him, watching his beautiful eyes, his veiny long hands on the steering wheel.
“I..”
“You..” We spoke at the same time.
“You can go first.” He laughed.
“I wanted to say my house is just around the corner. You?”
He stopped the car, an intense look flashed in his eyes quickly.
“I want to take you somewhere.”
He wants to show me something? I looked at him unsurely. It wasn't like I knew him that well, but for some weird reason, I trusted him. Deeply. “You can take me anywhere, Xander. Just make sure you're not kidnapping me.”
He smirked, his eyes glinting as he started the ignition.
The ride was short, and surprisingly a place I know too well.
‘Seriously? The effing woods?!’ I thought to myself.
“We're here.” I watched Xander open the doors for me. I was still deciding whether or not to tell him I knew this place all too well.
It was where I first turned into a werewolf. It was where I almost got killed yesterday. Haleson park.
“Follow me.” He demanded, holding my hands and leading me through the thick forest.
I tried not to faint at the thought of this super hot human boy this close to me. My chest was beating rapidly. I was confused. I was in awe.
He took me to the place where the rogues attacked me in the night.
I stood frozen at the spot, and he glanced intently at me with his alluring eyes. His scent drove me insa…
Wait?! His scent!
Under the cologne, I was trying to pick out his scent, then what I never expected happened next.
Xander Theon Grayson's eyes turned a molten gold shade.
“You're a werewolf!” I couldn't believe what was happening now. Not only was he a werewolf, he was the one that saved me from the rogues.
“And so are you. I picked up your scent from the very first day I saw you a year ago.”
My mouth fell open in shock. I got myself quickly, and as per werewolf laws, curtseyed. “Alpha Xander.”
“You don't have to call me Alpha.” His eyes softened as he stared at me."...ever."
That was when I realised all that was happening.
The promise of the moon goddess, the strong pull I felt with him. Alpha Xander was my second chance mate!
I also remembered that I needed to use him to get my Luna powers.
“I need you to sign a contract as my mate to get back at my ex, Nova. I'll give you money, protection as my Luna, anything you want. And you get to live in my packhouse.”
Ouch…
My entire ecstasy came crashing down. So this was it then. I was being used, but I was using him as well to save my mom, so… but it still hurt a bit.
But regardless, I accepted. “I accept to be your mate and to follow the terms of your contract.”
When his fangs came down on my neck, marking me as his property. I felt a high I've never felt before. My emotions were bubbling deep in my chest.
I ignored the pain from the bite and kissed him deeply. He kissed me back with a fervent hunger. I savored the taste of his lips on mine.
Then the mind linking happened. I heard his wolf clear in my chest. “Mate!”
Then what I didn't expect was the soft, feminine purr I heard next.
“Congratulations, Luna, and welcome to the system. You have successfully unlocked level one.”
It was my wolf, Rhia.
