Chapter 7 Chapter 7

Kael’s pov

She stared at me like I had lost my mind before bursting into a raucous laughter.

“What’s funny?” I asked as she pointed at me.

“You are,” she sighed. “Did you hit your head hard or something? I think we need the healer.”

She turned to leave as I held her wrist, keeping her in place.

“I’m serious Selene,” I said with a hard tone. “This is important.”

She stayed staring at the door before slowly turning towards me.

“This… this is a lot. I wasn’t expecting this.”

“We are engaged,” I closed the distance between us, my hand slowly going to her face. The touch of my knuckles on her cheeks gave me a nauseating sensation but I held on. Whatever that omega had done to me to make me and Selene not feel compatible would soon wear off. “Besides, we were going to get married sooner or later. What’s the rush?”

She stared at me with a smile forming on her face before she squealed.

“I’m so excited! I have so much planned. I wanted to get married this summer but I was thinking more of a winter kind of…”

“Actually, the rites and marriage would be holding in the next seven days.”

She stared at me like I had lost my mind, then pulled away from my hug.

“Are you being serious?” she stuttered. “We can’t just rush our marriage. We have to get married whenever we want to get married. Is there something going on that I don’t know about?”

I sighed, looking away from her. I wanted to tell her so much, of how the elders had been stupid enough to pair me up with an omega. Even though they didn’t pair me up directly, but somehow that omega had warmed her way into my wolf, and right now, my wolf thinks that that stupid omega is my mate.

I looked at Selene and gave her a short smile. It was one that would tell her that everything was going to be okay, but she wasn’t buying it.

“How about we have this discussion after you’ve settled in? Seems like you just came back from your trip.”

“Yes, because I thought you were dead, and I came to make sure that I bring in every single healer that would help you back to your feet. But now, I fear the worst.”

I scoffed. “What’s worse than dying?”

“What’s worse than dying is you bringing up the part where we are supposed to get married immediately. You don’t explain anything to me. You don’t tell me why you’re going out of your way to do this. You just want it done. That’s something that I’m not going to stand behind.”

I nodded quickly. “Fine, I see your point. So, what do you want me to do now?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe you don’t jump this on me.”

“How about, like I said earlier, you go and rest. You just had a long trip. Now you’re worrying over when we should get married and when we should not. Relax, I have everything under control.”

She stared at me for a little while before nodding.

“You’re right,” she said. “Maybe I’m overwhelmed with the whole you being dead news. I’m glad you’re okay.”

She then kissed my cheek and stepped back.

“I’ll be going to my room to change, and then I’ll see you at lunch.”

I shook my head. “No, I have to meet up with the healer.”

She nodded. “Dinner?”

“If the healer would permit me to have dinner and also have a meeting with the elders, I have to choose.”

She nodded. “Either way, we will talk about this later.”

“We will.”

We kissed again as she walked out, leaving me alone in the room. I watched the door close then turned back to the mirror to see the reflection of my wolf showing up.

“That was not smooth at all.”

I shook my head. “Can you remove it?”

He looked at me like I had said something nauseating.

“Remove what?” he asked with a growl in his throat.

“This whole feeling that I have whenever I’m close to that omega and this feeling I have whenever I’m close to Selene, it’s not the same.”

“Yes, because your mate is the omega that you keep on pushing away.”

“No,” I started to pace around. “That omega is not my mate. My mate is Selene. We have been proposed to each other for a very long time.”

“Are you sure about that? What about the other one that was killed under your own rule? What about her? Was she your mate or was that just for show?”

“Her death is something that I deeply regret. Right now, we have to focus on the positive. I have Selene now. Selene is going to be the luna of this great pack, and I cannot have Selene by my side and then think of that omega. I have to get rid of it, so can you do it?”

“No, I can’t. I can’t remove the feelings that we have with our mates. You should have marked her. She’s out there. She’s vulnerable.”

“She is not vulnerable. And you know what? She’s not our mate. She screwed up with my head, which screwed up with your head, and now both of us are in jeopardy. We cannot rule this pack if all we’re thinking about is that omega.”

The wolf scoffed.

“That is how mates work. If you people are apart, you will not understand anything. She is the one that is matched to you, and right now she’s in danger, and you let her go. And for what? You should go out there and be trying to find her. What if she’s already out of this pack?”

“Then good riddance to that witch and her witchery.”

“This is wrong. Whenever you need my help, I’ll be here. But until then, I will make sure that Selene regrets being your mate.”

“What does that mean?”

He didn’t say anything as I watched the mirror dissipate black smoke, and then my reflection appeared before it.

I then got out of the room and looked at a passing guard.

“You there!”

The guard turned to me and bowed.

“Call the healer. I need her now.”

I then slammed the door shut and paced around. Within minutes, someone knocked on the door.

“Come in!” I yelled.

The door opened with the healer coming in. She bowed.

“There’s something wrong with me. That omega did something to me, and I need it out.”

“What is it, my Alpha?”

I didn’t want to tell her about the sex I had with the omega. Neither did I want to tell her anything about mates and whatever rituals that this pack so believed in.

“I can’t explain it, but go through my body and see if I’m 100% healthy.”

The healer nodded. I laid in bed as she started to hover her hands around me with closed eyes.

“Your energy feels okay, and your wolf seems restless.”

I rolled my eyes. “Tell me something I don’t know.”

“Other than that, you seem fine, Alpha.”

I gave a heavy sigh. “So nothing is wrong with me.”

“Nothing out of the ordinary. You have enough strength to decimate an army right now. That’s how strong you are.”

I sat up. “Then why do I have this incessant feeling that something is missing?”

She then gave me a small smile.

“Alpha, you died, or you nearly died, and now you’re back. With the Omega’s healing powers, she was able to help you bring you back from the edge of death. Without her, all hope would have been lost. You were poisoned so deeply that for a second your heart stopped, if not minutes. We thought you were dead, but now that you’re here, we are grateful. But like I told you before leaving here earlier, you need rest. You keep on pushing yourself. We don’t know what we’re dealing with.”

I nodded. “Maybe you’re right. Either way, I am fully okay and I am alive. You can go now.”

She got to her feet, then walked to the door, but then she stopped there and turned to me.

“Also, with Miss Selene back in the pack and with, from what I hear, your marriage about to happen, I would want you to be extra careful. You have to take your health seriously.”

She then bowed again, opened the door, and left me alone in the room.
