Chapter 9 Chapter 9

Kael’s pov

“…with the rituals being by that corner. I’m sure you agree alpha.”

I looked at the elder who was talking before me and nodded absentmindedly but I wasn’t here. Not fully.

I looked around to see the garden filled with so many maids and workers arranging the place for the wedding ceremony between Selene and I.

“Alpha,” the elder called me as I looked at him with narrowed eyes. “Are you sure this is the best time to be doing this? You need to be resting not out here planning a wedding. It’s too soon. Please, listen to…”

“You elders brought an omega to touch me and not only that, mess with my mind. This wedding is the only thing that can keep that wench away from me. Whatever hold she has on me, would be destroyed the moment I mark my mate.”

“But…”

“No buts ,” I started walking away from him. “Get on with your chores.

The moment I got to the packhouse, I found Selene talking to Dorian. She turned to me with a twinkle in her eye. She seemed… happy.

“Well? What do you think?” I gestured to the field filled with workers doing my bidding.

“It’s awesome,” she squealed, hugging me and stepping away as she started telling me all of her plans, but slowly her voice blurred with my wolf’s voice taking over.

‘Is this the height you’ve come to? Having a fake wedding to see if you can distract yourself from the one meant for you?’

I couldn’t respond as it went on. ‘I can’t wait to see your face when you find out this is all a huge mistake.’

“Shut up!” I yelled as the surrounding environment became loud to me.

I looked at a shocked Dorian and Selene before me as she sighed.

“Oh,” she nodded with her face having a hint of disappointment on it. “I… didn’t know I was being a nuisance to you.”

That was when I realized that I had yelled at her instead of my wolf.

“Shit.” I cut out. “I’m so sorry babe. It wasn’t for…”

“I’m going to meet up with the healers for… something.”

She then walked away from me, leaning me with my beta.

He stepped up to me. “That was… hard to watch.”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

“What do you want to hear then? Because it just looks like you yelled at your future wife.”

“I wasn’t yelling at her.”

“Alpha,” he chuckled. “She was talking to you about how she was happy she was getting married to you and you…”

“I know what I said,” I sighed in frustration. “I’m just saying that it wasn’t meant for her.”

“So it was meant for who then?”

I looked away from him. “No one.”

The tension between us started to rise as I took in deep breaths. “Have you gotten the wine yet?”

“That wasn’t my job. The guard you sent has gone to get it.”

“Right.”

I looked at the field to see it bubbling with workers making sure every pin was in place.

By this time next week, I would be married to my Luna and whatever effect that disgusting omega had on me would be gone.

“Alpha, are you sure having a wedding while you were almost dead is the best idea right now? You should be…”

“Don’t start,” I huffed. “I can take it from the elders but from you? I expect you to be on my side.”

“I am on your side. But if you keep forcing this rites… you know you’ll be the first alpha in history to have this short marriage. It shouldn’t be this way.”

“I guess there’s a first time for everything.”

“Alpha…”

“That omega… have you found her?”

“I haven’t.”

I frowned. “Why not?”

“She might have left the pack.”

“And gone where?”

“Alpha, you were the one who told me to punish her if I found her. To toss her in the dungeon. If she is gone, isn’t that to our own good?”

I thought of the past.

It was forbidden for Alphas and Omegas to mate, a curse that, according to legend, brought about disaster to the pack.

I could feel the mate bond, but i refused to accept it. I wasn’t going to. This was a huge mistake.

This had to be punishment for my past sins.

Before I became Alpha, I had led my people through a devastating war, sacrificing the life of my own first mate to secure peace for the pack.

I rejected her, using her as a bargaining piece, surviving with the guilt of killing an innocent soul.

That had crushed me and for a while I had been in hiding while my beta took over taking care of the pack.

After a couple of years of mourning, I was engaged to my first love, Selene.

Now we had been in love before I met Freya my first mate. But then I had pushed Selene aside to focus on my mate and now she was dead I was back to Selene.

It had taken a lot to win her back. This Eliara girl wasn’t going to destroy all I was trying to build.

‘Eliara is our second-chance mate, not Selene,’ I heard my wolf say within me. But that only hardened my heart even more.

‘If that is so, I know the solution to both our problems.’ I said mentally, before turning to my beta.

“That omega is nothing but trouble. I want her found and I want to use her as an example to the elders who bring an unauthorized body close to me.”

“What do you want done alpha?”

“Bring her to me. I’ll kill her before the pack.”

I smiled inwardly.

Destroy the mistake before it destroys me.

I cannot be mated to a nobody, an Omega raised as property. I would not do that.

Eliara was a threat and she needed to go.

“That will be done alpha,” he bowed before running off, leaving me to myself.

‘You’re making a huge mistake. One you’d regret sooner than later,’ my wolf said as I laughed.

“Why don’t you sit back and enjoy the show.”
