Chapter 3 The Supreme Alpha

XIMENA

By the time night finally arrived, my entire body ached. The grand hall looked completely different now.

Golden chandeliers illuminated the massive room while hundreds of pack members filled the hall dressed in expensive gowns and suits. Music echoed softly through the air beneath endless conversations and laughter.

Meanwhile, I carried a tray of drinks between tables, trying desperately not to attract attention, which was harder than it sounded.

Across the hall, I spotted my family standing beside the Alpha table. My elder brother wasn't present, but the rest of my family were.

My father stood between Mother and Selene, speaking to another Alpha while Selene laughed at something he said, and for a brief moment, Father smiled at her.

The sight hurt more than it should have. I couldn’t remember the last time he had smiled at me like that. Truthfully, I couldn’t remember the last time he had spoken more than three words to me at all.

“What are you doing there? Some guests close to the entrance need drinks. Go! "

I went, and as soon as I got there, loud murmurs spread through the hall as the atmosphere shifted instantly and every conversation stopped.

The Supreme Alpha had arrived. My heartbeat quickened before I could stop it.

Two men entered first, surrounded by an overwhelming aura powerful enough to silence the entire room…and then he stepped inside.

My breath caught. He was tall, broad-shouldered and dressed entirely in black while power rolled off him so intensely that the entire room fell quieter.

He looked dangerous. Not the loud kind, the quiet kind. The kind that smiled while destroying people.

Something strange twisted low in my stomach as I looked. He was so close, and that made my skin feel too tight suddenly. His eyes swept across the crowded hall lazily. Then—

Someone slammed into my shoulder. I lost my balance instantly, and the tray tilted violently from my hands as several glasses crashed to the ground.

Horror flooded me instantly. “I-I’m s-so sorry—” My foot slipped backwards. Before I could hit the ground, a strong hand wrapped around my waist.

The second his skin touched mine, something exploded beneath my ribs. A sharp jolt shot through my entire body so suddenly my breath caught. For one impossible second, the noise in the hall disappeared completely.

It felt as though something had reached inside my chest and pulled tight, but it wasn’t painful. It was something else, something I couldn't explain. My pulse stumbled.

What was that?

Slowly, I lifted my head to look at who had caught me, and my soul left my body when I stared into the eyes of the Supreme Alpha. The second our eyes met, something dark flashed across his face.

A low growl suddenly echoed across the hall. It was my father, and I was reminded of what I had just done.

“I-I’m sorry,” I stammered breathlessly, pulling away from him so fast I nearly tripped again. “I’m so sorry, Alpha.”

The entire room stared at me—at us. And I saw my mother curse under her breath. Fear wrapped tightly around my throat. Then without waiting for punishment—

I ran out of the hall.
