Chapter 3 Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Anna’s POV

I decided to clean up a little, a lot of the stuff in the cabin I didn’t need anymore, so I took things to the shed. I am going to have to get a better bed at some point, but this one will have to do for now.

A knock at my door kind of startled me a little; my heart was in my throat. I looked out the window, and there was another buff-looking guy, but he was dirty.

“Micah?” I asked to open the door.

“The look gave me away, huh?” he mused, shaking my head. “The guys weren’t lying when they said you were kind of cute.” He said, moving out of the way. “So let's check out your car. If I didn’t bring everything I need, I would need to go back to the shop to get it, but Daniel said he thinks it's only belts.”

“I don’t know,” I said, opening the door and popping the hood. “It started, but died as soon as it got here.”

“Have you had issues in the past?” he asked, messing around with some of the stuff on the engine. “Sluggish?”

“Sometimes, but when my dad was alive, he managed to keep it going. Now he died, so I don’t even know what to do.” I sighed.

“So it does look like your belts are shot.” He said, looking at me. “Your car is old; you might want to think about getting a better one. I might have one you can buy, pretty cheap.”

“Maybe.” I sighed. “I’ve had this car since I learned to drive, but I think you are right.

My dad even said I needed a new one, but he gave this to me when I got my license, and I have kind of been keeping it. Pretty stupid, I know.”

“Not stupid, sentimental.” He smiled. “I did the same thing once; my dad had to take it and get rid of it. I was so mad that day, but eventually it wore off. You see, I have a temper when someone pisses me off.”

“I don’t think I’d attempt to piss you off.” I giggled in nervousness.

He chuckled. “Most don’t, but I get that one guy who will come at me. Sometimes I get hit first, but usually I just throw a right, and they are down for the count.” He mused.

Another car pulled up; a man I didn’t know got out. “Pete!” Micah said, walking towards the man. “This is Anna.” He said, looking at me. “Oh, I forgot your wood, and he needed to bring me something else for the car.” He said, pulling some wood out of the back. “Sorry, I should have

told you.”

“No big deal.” I smiled.

“Where would you like the wood?” Micah asked as Pete followed behind with another stack of wood.

“Inside,” I said, opening the door for them. “You guys are my heroes. I was so cold last night.” I sighed. “But I figured out the power issue, and now I have wood.” I smiled.

“Let me get your fire started,” Pete said, throwing some wood into the fireplace. “I brought enough for a couple of nights. I’ll get some more and come back tomorrow with it, that way you don’t have weird guys coming and going. We don’t want issues with you and your mate.”

“Mate?” I was confused.

“Oh, that’s right,” Pete said, looking at Micah. “Boyfriend, husband. I forgot the city people call their partners something else.”

“I kind of like, mate.” I mused. “But no, no mate or husband. We broke up a few days ago.” I said, turning away from them, I didn’t want them to see I was upset. “And you’re welcome to come around if you need to, anyway. I won’t bite much.”

“Can’t say that about us, though.” Micah mused. “That is, until you find your mate.” He said, looking at Pete. “We have some guys if you are looking to get back into that scene.”

“No,” I said, waving my hand. “I am done with relationships for now. My last one cheated on me and blamed me for it. I guess I am not girlfriend material.” I sighed.

“Could have fooled me,” Micah said as we walked back outside. “You are independent and out here alone? You are strong for being so tiny.” He giggled. “Sorry.”

“Funny.” I giggled. “I might just have to right hook you.”

He chuckled.

“Funny too, you should come for dinner one of these nights. Our Alpha is gone for a few more weeks, but I am sure he’d love to meet you since you are basically our neighbor.”

It all sounded nice, but I am not ready to meet a bunch of new people, even though these guys seem like they are friendly. “I don’t know, rain check maybe?”

“Of course, when you are settled and over the whole issue with your ex and you feel like being flirty with some of the wolves.” He said, looking at Pete. “I mean, guys back home.”

“Wolves?” I asked. “Do you have pet wolves?”

“Yep,” Pete said before Micah could. “But they only patrol our lands, you are on neutral lands, and we don’t let them come this way much, not unless they are chasing other wolves off our lands.” He spoke. “I need to get back to the pack house, Beta is calling.”

“It was nice meeting you,” I said, waving as he got into his car and backed up. “Are you hungry, Micah?”

“Of course, always.” He mused. “But I am going to grab some pizza on the way back home.”

“I’m going to make you something for you, since you’re doing this for me,” I said before he could say no. I went inside to see what I had brought. I know I need to go shopping, but I have to have something that is enough for him to be so nice.

I managed to make a decent sandwich and a soda, so this kind of worked out. “I know you said you were getting pizza; this will make it so you aren’t so hungry,” I said, handing him the sandwich.

“What about you?” he asked, taking a bite.

“I am not so hungry; the whole breakup has me all over the place.” I sighed. “But you are, so that is all that matters.”

“I know it's none of my business, but a guy who leaves someone like you isn’t a good guy.” He sighed. “You’ll find your other half, and then all of the hurt you felt before will be gone. It's going to be like a good night's sleep, only better. A great fairy tale life, I have it. It took a long time to find my mate, but she has been a blessing in dealing with my muscles.” He mused.

“It's good you have your mate, I mean, hell, if I found someone who treats me well, I would be in love, but I haven’t found that in a long time.”

“That’s why you should do something you wouldn’t normally do.” He mused. “Come to our lands, there are many there that are looking to make a girl happy, and you might find your mate.” He said, turning back to the car. “I should be done with this part, and if this doesn’t fix the

car, then there are other issues, but I have a feeling I might get lucky. I will be here tomorrow with some other parts, if you don’t mind? The sun is setting, and I am sure you’re going to want to rest and relax.”

“I don’t mind, but you’re right, you need your rest too.” I smiled.

“And my pizza.” He chuckled.

“Pizza sounds good, actually.” I giggled. Even though I am sure I wouldn’t be able to eat it, it sounded tasty.

“You want me to bring you a pie?”

“Maybe tomorrow.” I sighed. “Still not really feeling the food, I am afraid it would go to waste, or I will be sick from it.”

“I understand.” He said tightening something in the engine. “Try to start it for me.”

“Sure,” I said, getting into the car. It wanted to start, but it didn’t. I sighed.

“So, it's more than what I fixed.” He said, coming around the car. “Let me try something.” He said getting in after I was out of the way. He forced the key inside, and it started.

“Hm, interesting.”

“What?”

“Well, your starter is being funny. I don’t know if fixing it is going to keep it running from the sounds of the engine.” He said getting out and listening. “You have a lot more issues than it's worth fixing.” He sighed. “But I have a car you can have.”

“I cannot buy anything right now, my bank is in the city, and I have no way to get there.”

He touched my shoulder. “I changed my mind about selling it to you. I am going to bring it tomorrow, it’s yours.”

“But how am I going to repay you?”

“You’re part of our family now.” He mused. “You’re our neighbor, and friendly. I like friendly people, but not many people from the city like us. So, it’s a blessing we have you.” He smirked. “I’ll see you in the afternoon tomorrow, give you time to sleep.” He said, walking back to his car. “Don’t venture out at night, there are crazy wolves that come through here all the time. Don’t open the door either,” he warned.

“Don’t worry, I won’t.” I smiled. “See you tomorrow.”

“Sweet dreams.” He said before he started his car and drove off.
