Chapter 4 Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Anna’s POV

Locking the door behind me, I still don’t know how I am feeling about everything. I don’t know if I can accept a car from someone I don’t even know. Yeah, I know he is trying to be nice, but I don’t know if there is something he is going to want. I do not want to whore

myself out to make someone else happy because they did give me something. Maybe I shouldn’t take the car?

Looking at the food I have in the house, a can of soup might have to do. I hope I can eat it. The howl from a wolf that was close enough to be outside my window. I looked but couldn’t see anything, and then I saw two run past my window.

“Wow. They are huge!” I said with my eyes wide open.

Now I see why Micah told me not to open the door. I guess the wolves around here are a lot bigger than the ones they show on TV or in the zoo. I know I won't be going out at night unless I have to.

The power tripped, and everything is out this time. “Shit,” I said, grabbing my phone. I don’t know if I should go out there. I don’t want to be in the dark, even though I have the fire for light, but my soup wasn’t done cooking, and I don’t have anything I can put in the fireplace.

Unlocking the door, I turn the doorknob and glance around. It’s quiet here, so I don’t think the wolves stayed around. Slowly going around the cabin where the power box is, I noticed someone had turned off the main.

“Seriously?” Maybe it tripped?

When the power came back on, my heart went into my throat. I hope there isn’t someone out here messing around because I don’t know what I will do. Walking inside, I close the door and turn to face a man sitting near the fire.

“You're either really dumb going out there, or you knew I was there and you had a plan.”

He growled. “So, which is it?” His dark hair is a mess, and he doesn’t smell all that well. Maybe he is a homeless guy thinking he can scare me, well, it's not going to work. I have to show him I am not afraid of him; maybe he will go away.

“Uh,” I said, looking around for something to protect myself. He was fast. He grabbed me by the throat, forcing me against the wall. “You smell different.” His teeth are rotting, and his breath smells like death. Yeah, homeless, but is he harmless?

“Thanks, I think,” I said, putting my hand on his wrist. He tightened his grip. “What do you want?” I stuttered; my heart was in my throat.

“Information.” He said his eyes are dark.

“About?” I said, struggling to breathe as he squeezed a little harder. “I don’t know what you want to, but you’re killing me,” I whined, but it didn’t seem to faze him much.

“Good.” He said, bringing his face closer to me. “You are unprotected here; Alpha Lucas won’t come here to save you.”

“What?” I said, confused. “The hell are you talking about?” I said, between trying to get air. “Your breath smells like death; I am not afraid of you!” I snapped at him, and he tightened his grip even more.

“The two wolves you had here, Micah, his Gamma, and Pete, a warrior.” He said, coming closer. “Why were they here?”

“Helping me with my car, they saw me on the road and offered to help,” I said, choking before he released me. I gasp for air as my butt hits the ground. “I don’t know what you want, but I don’t have anything.”

I tried getting away from him; it worked, but then he grabbed me, forcing me up against the wall again. His eyes are dark, and it doesn’t look like he is playing. “Let's play a game.” He mused.

He grabbed me by my arm, forcing me in front of him. He opened the door, and there were three wolves there. He tossed me in front of them, “You lie, you die, so again I am going to ask you this one more time. What did they want?”

I heard a wolf howl, loud, so it wasn’t that far away.

“Aw.” He said, looking down at me. “I guess our play time is over, but don’t worry, when I come back, I am going to show you just how you die.” He said, rushing away from me, the wolves ran off.

Rubbing my neck, it hurt. Getting to my feet, I turn, and there are three big wolves there.

My heart went into my throat. I don’t want to die tonight. I don’t even know what the fuck just happened. They didn’t seem hostile, but I wasn’t going to take a chance. One of them walked closer to me, his head lowered.

“You won’t bite me?” I asked, thinking he could understand, but he kept his mouth shut, and his eyes followed my hand as I reached out to touch it. “Was that you who howled?” I asked.

He did a small lick on my hand.

“Well, thanks for saving me. I don’t know who that was,” I said, looking towards the place where he ran off.

The other two wolves lay down near the front door, and the one that licked me walked inside and lay down by the fire. I followed him in closing the door behind me. Tonight was kind of scary. I don’t know what he wants, and if he is coming back, I don’t know what the hell he is

going to do to me.

He said he is going to kill me? For what? Maybe this is all a dream, and I will wake up in my head, and Micah will be back over with my car. I hope I can pay him somehow. If the car works, I am going to go and get some of the money in my account and bring it to him.

Walking over to the oversized wolf, I sat down on the floor with him. “Thank you for saving me,” I said, petting his head. “I am worried he was there for my new friends; he mentioned

them.” I sighed. “I have to tell Micah.”

I don’t know why I am telling the wolf this. I know he doesn’t understand what I am saying, but he seems to want to comfort me. He put his head in my lap as I moved my hands through his fur. “You are so soft,” I said, cuddling with him.

This all feels like a dream. Maybe this is what Micah was talking about. My fairytale, only the wolf isn’t a man that will change upon a kiss. I giggled. "Are you, my prince?” I joked. “Kidding.”

I lay down by the fire. I don’t know why it’s comforting to have a wild wolf in my living room. I know it can attack me, but I don’t get that at all from him. I am kind of glad he stayed around. I am not sure who that man was, and if he is really going to come back and kill me. Just the fact that he tossed me to the wolves, but they didn’t do anything, makes me wonder if he was trying to do that as a scary tactic. Maybe I should show him I am not afraid of him.
