Chapter 5 Chapter 5

Micah’s POV

When I heard Draven was in the area, I knew he would pass the cabin or stop there because someone was there. I am glad I didn’t wait; I took Gavin and Marcus with me in case. Draven was on the porch when we got there.

Spotting Anna in the middle of the three wolves pissed me off. I let off an aggressive howl, and that seemed to make him run for it. But I know he will be back; he wants blood. He knows I have been here, so he is most likely going to use Anna to get to Alpha Lucas.

Waiting until Anna went to sleep, I shifted and went outside. “You two stay here until morning. I need to let Alpha Lucas know what the fuck is going on,” I said, shifting and letting Dio take over so he can get us there faster.

“Why do you care?” Dio asked as we ran towards the packhouse.

“She’s family,” I said, annoyed. “I can feel it, just don’t know how to explain it. When we found her with her car, I could sense something about her. I don’t want to talk about it. I have my reasons.”

“She isn’t your mate, though; you have Lilah.” He said, annoyed. “Don’t you even think about taking another mate.”

“I know.” I sighed. “I don’t feel love for her like that, Dio,” I said, rolling my eyes. “If I'm right, she belongs in our pack.”

“She’s human.”

“So what?” I growled. “Just get us home. I will explain to Alpha Lucas about this, and if he doesn’t want her protected, I am still going to do it; you aren’t going to fight me on this either. I don’t need it.”

When we got there, Beta James was on the porch with Alpha Lucas.

“Finally.” Beta James mused. “I thought you were ignoring us.”

“Sorry.” I sighed. “I wasn’t, Draven was at the cabin with the girl that I’ve been doing repairs on her car,” I said, stepping up the stairs. Alpha Lucas grabbed me around the throat, pinning me against the porch post. “Alpha?” I said, trying to relax, I didn’t want to provoke him.

“That scent.” He snapped, smelling me. “Where did it come from?”

“The girl Anna, she fell asleep on me, that’s the only person I’ve been around,” I said as he released me.

“Is she a wolf?” Alpha Lucas asked.

“No, human,” I said, coughing. “She’s friendly and likes wolves, so I don’t think she’ll be an issue for us. I want to protect her, though.”

“That cabin is on neutral ground.” Beta James said, looking at Alpha Lucas and me. “We cannot protect her.”

“We can if she is part of our pack,” I said before Alpha Lucas could say no. “I will do it when I am off. You don’t have to worry about me slacking.”

He closed his eyes. “Did she see you shift?” he said, opening his eyes.

“She did not.” I sighed. “I left Gavin and Marcus there with her in case Draven wants to come back around. He was going to kill her or let his wolves have fun tearing her apart. She said something about him asking about us, about me.” I sighed.

“Draven is a thorn in my ass.” Alpha Lucas sighed. “I will grant your wish to protect her, but if she tells Draven anything about us, you need to put her down. She doesn’t need to help bring us down.”

“Alpha!” I growled, annoyed. “She isn’t with Draven; she doesn’t belong here. She is from the city.”

“And here you know her so well.” He said, annoyed. “Bring her here, and I will decide her fate.”

“If I can get her to come, she is kind of shy when meeting anyone new. She broke up with someone, and I think it bothers her.” I sighed. “But I will ask her to come here to meet with you, but I think you are making a mistake thinking she is going to help Draven.”

He grabbed me around my throat again. “I don’t make mistakes, Micah; I wouldn’t be Alpha if I did.” He said before walking away from me.

“I tend to agree with him, but I think you are right.” Beta James said, walking down the stairs.

“Do you know what was exactly said?”

“No.” I sighed. “But I have a feeling she is going to tell me when I bring a car over later today. I don’t think she is the type of girl who wouldn’t let someone know if they are in danger.

She has bruises on her neck from Draven, so she had to resist something he asked her; otherwise, why would he do that?”

“It could all be a trick, get to know the girl.” He said, looking at me. “As Alpha Lucas says, she betrays us; she dies.”

“I still think you are wrong.” I sighed. “I mean, you met her that one time, and she didn’t seem like a bad girl, right?”

“No,” he mused. “You’re seeing her today, right?” he asked.

“Yeah, to drop off a car and make sure she is fine. She doesn’t know we’re wolves, so I was careful, but she likes us. She wasn’t afraid of me when I was there with the others. I don’t think she is going to have any issues accepting us; she might even come here when she finds out we’re wolves.”

“I doubt it; there has never been a human who has been accepting of us, unless she was mated to a wolf.” He said, rolling his eyes. “So, to make this easier on you, I will go with you today, and we can get to know her and see what happens. If I deem her a threat, you are going to be the one who kills her.”

“That isn’t fair, and you know it!” I snapped. “She isn’t going to betray us.”

“We’ll see,” he mused. “Either go to bed or go back to the girl and ensure she isn’t working against us. Get her to trust you; that way, it's easier to figure out how much betrayal she will do to you before she gets to the pack.” He said, walking away from me. “Oh, one more thing, her first test is to see if she tells you about last night.” He said, disappearing into the house.

“Marcus.” I linked.

“What’s up, Gamma?”

“Is she fine?” I asked even though I know she is.

“Yes. We don’t have any issues here; we’re going to disappear when she wakes up. We don’t want to scare her, right?”

“She needs to know we’re around, though. The Alpha and Beta both think she is working with Draven, so we’re going to have to watch out for that. At least until we can prove she isn’t going to do anything to the pack.

“But Draven was about to kill her?” Gavin said, confused.

“Yes, I know, but Alpha Lucas doesn’t want to hear it, and Beta James will be coming with me later today to drop the car off, and if he deems her a threat, he is going to force me to kill her.” I sighed. I don’t know if I can kill someone as innocent as her. Everything about her and the feeling I get from her tells me she isn’t going to hurt us. She is part of our pack, she just doesn’t know it, and apparently, no one else does either. I’m annoyed, but I need to ensure the car I am giving her will be good for her. I need to give her time to wake up.
