Chapter 79
While I had been asleep, they had decided to plan an all out attack on the vampires and the dissenting pack. The plan was to hit them soon, before they had a chance to move too far away from their current encampment.
The overall consensus was that we were ready to go now, so they had decided to gather our forces and proceed with the attack the very next day. With Amy under heavy guard, and unable to use her magic to bolster their forces, they would be weakened and unready to withstand this kind of assault.
My mates were invigorated, ready for the battle, but I was wary and tired and wished that they would be home, safe with me instead.
“I’ll be worried and praying the entire time you’re gone, you know.” Using a little guilt to hopefully get my way, I pouted and batted my eyes at them, knowing full well it wouldn’t work.
Brian chuckled at my attempt, “We know, love. We promise to make the victory as swift as possible.” Even he, the quiet, calm one of the group, was ready for the battle, to end things.
Cheney, my aggressive and always battle ready mate, was practically bouncing with excitement. “Well, we may drag it on just a bit. Just to reiterate who they tried to mess with.” This comment got a laugh from all of us. He was always jovial and could lighten any room.
Nicholas, always steady and level headed, was even a bit jittery this evening. “They won’t know what hit them. We haven’t planned an attack of this magnitide since before we were born. It’s going to be magnificent.”
His face was bright, his smile showing his wolves fangs, proving just how ready for the fight he was. I sighed, smiling slightly. I was proud of my mates, and I knew in my heart that they would be alright. The moon goddess would watch over them.
We had all slept fitfully that night, but with a touch of light magic, we were all wide awake and ready to go before the sun came up the day of the attack. I walked with my mates to the border of our compound, where the rest of their forces were meeting to make final preperations.
Armand greeted us, filled with the same light energy that was radiating from my mates. There was positive, excited energy flowing all throughout the compound. The moon goddess’ presence filled the place as well, and gave me hope for a good outcome.
As the army faded off into the distance on the way to hopeful victory, I began to feel a painful twinge in my back. Dr. Matthias and Elara, who were standing next to me, watching our men move away from us, heard my quick intake of breath and turned to me.
“Are you alright?” Elara put a steady hand on my back, looking into my face. The pain quickly passed, and I laughed a bit. “Yeah, I’m fine, shall we go get breakfast?”
We turned towards the mansion, chatting about our hopes for the battle while we walked. As we reached the door, another pain hit me from out of nowhere. “Oh!” I clutched at my side and back, and doubled over with the pain.
Dr. Matthais and Elara caught me under each arm, holding me upright. “There, there dear, lets get you into the medical suit.” Elara had a patient, expectant smile on her face.
“What’s happening? What’s wrong?” I was near panic, fearing the worst. All the bad things that could possibly go wrong, were flowing through my mind.
Dr. Matthais smiled down at me, and began rubbing small circles on my back. “You are fine, my darling, it’s just time.”
They were both looking at me with knowing expressions, smiles radiating. “What? What is it?” I looked back and forth between the two of them, wishing that they would just tell me what was going on.
“It’s time, my dear.” Elara said, reaching for my protruding belly. “You’re little one is ready to make their appearance.” She was smiling brilliantly, excited.
It hit me, hard. It was time. My child, my sweet baby, was on the way. I was in labor. They had me sit down in the birthing suit that they had set up for me, and talked me through what was about to happen.
I listened, only hearing about half of what they were saying, still in shock about what was about to happen. Seeing my distance, Elara reached out and took my hand.
“Beryl, sweetie, everything is going to be alright. I promise. We’ll take perfectly good care of you, and you will see your sweet baby very soon.” She was smiling encouragingly. It slowly creeped into my brain that this was real, and I was having a baby, right now.
“Oh, oh wow. This is happening. I need my mates!” It shook me that they weren’t here and that their child was coming now anyway. “Hey, hey, calm down.” Dr. Matthais had taken a step forward and taken my other hand.
“We have time, everything is fine. Your labor has just started, it’s early. Let me take a look at you, but more than likely we’ve got plently of time before the baby is actually here.”
He was speaking slowly and calmly, nodding between each word. I took in his words, knowing he was right, but overwhelmed with worry all the same.
Not that far away from me, the battle was raging between my pack, the vampires, and the dissenting pack.
Nicholas:
It was as though there was a guiding light surrounding us. We moved swiftly through the woods, not making a sound. We were upon them before they even knew it.
We had killed and captured them all before they could even sound the alarm. The ease at which we had overcome them was almost otherwordly, and as I looked around at the victory, it seemed as though there was a soft, moonlike glow surrounding everything.
During the assault on the troublesome pack, as the battle raged on, I went into labor. It was a moment of chaos and tension, but our pack rallied around me. Rushed to the midwife and specialist, I faced the daunting prospect of childbirth amid the turmoil.
The triplets, unaware of my situation until the assault was over, rushed to my side, their worry etched on their faces.
