Chapter 6

His tone was so stiff that it left no room for argument. He had no problem using his position to my disadvantage.

“Sir, work hours ended a long time ago. I’m off the clock now!”

I tried my luck and reminded him. He smirked before giving me another lecture.

“Clause 7, Section 2 of the General Rules for Secretaries: Party B, which means you, leaves work when the boss leaves.”

He finally looked at me, his blue eyes shooting ice shards in my direction. However, this time, I avoided his gaze. There was no warmth in them. They were cold enough to freeze me.

After a short pause, he added, “Do you need me to repeat it for you?”

I bit my lower lip so hard that the metallic taste of blood teased my tongue. I wanted to scream, but instead, I dug my nails into my palm. I turned to Mr. Evans, embarrassment washing over me.

“Mr. Evans, I’m truly sorry. I…”

Before I could even finish apologizing, Dean did something completely ridiculous that made my heart stop. He spun around and hoisted me over his shoulder like I was a sack of potatoes.

He slapped my butt with his palm and grabbed the backs of my knees firmly. “Stop struggling. You’ll hurt yourself.”

This was so embarrassing. I didn’t dare look at Mr. Evans’ face or my surroundings. This man was insane. “What the heck are you doing, Dean Harper? Put me down right now! I’m going to call the police!”

He chuckled. “Oh, really?”

He knew I wouldn’t. As he walked toward the elevator, I completely melted down from embarrassment. My cheeks burned as I kicked my legs in the air, hoping he would lose his balance and let me go. But apparently, he had made sure to build enough muscle to carry me like I weighed nothing more than a feather.

Poor Mr. Evans was so overwhelmed that he froze in place. He only snapped out of it when I shouted Dean’s full name.

Well, after searching for information about where my Ex had been all this time, I learned that Dean Harper had returned to New York from Europe.

My ex-husband turned out to be from an incredibly wealthy family and had become a financial tycoon. So, he had hid many things from me.

He was no longer just a random accounting manager at an ordinary company. It was what he told me back then when he came home with so much joy. Maybe, that was a lie too. His assets were now worth hundreds of billions.

I struggled uselessly the entire way, but it had absolutely no effect on him.

My high heels were barely hanging onto my feet, almost slipping off. Eventually, we arrived at the deserted observation deck.

He gave my butt a light pat.

“Behave yourself.” His voice pierced my ears.

My body burned with an indescribable heat.

He carefully put me down after squeezing my ass that it left a sensation, but after struggling so hard on his shoulder, my legs nearly gave out. Not to mention what this move did to me. Back then after we showered together, he used to carry me back to bed like this, squeezing my ass like this before putting me down and drying my wet hair. I swallowed and dug my fingers into my dress.

He immediately grabbed my waist to steady me, crashing my body to his. Damn! I let out an unholy moan. His free hand brushed the messy strands of hair away from my face. I clung to him, staring at his lips to say something. This was too close. My heart couldn't take it to be this close to him.

I yelled at him at the top of my lungs to wake myself up that daze. “Harper! Are you out of your mind? What exactly do you want from me?”

He lowered his head and looked directly into my eyes. His face was completely expressionless. How could he maintain that? He showed me nothing. It hurt to look at his handsome face, crave his lips and get nothing in return.

“I just saved you. Is this how you thank me? The man you were dating wasn’t good enough.”

Huh? Who was good enough, then? A heartless, unfaithful jerk like him? But I wasn’t about to say that out loud.

“Whether he’s suitable or not is none of your business. You don’t get to interfere with my personal affairs! You’re just my boss, nothing more. Get used to it!”

Nothing. While I was practically burning with rage, he simply scanned me from head to toe. Then, with an extremely domineering expression, he said, “If I don’t like the look of him, you can’t marry him.”

I was completely bewildered.

What did he just say? He wasn't worthy of marrying me? No fucking way! Who said I want that? I just wanted to know the guy. It was just a date.

He was allowed to get married whenever he wanted, while I had to stay alone for the rest of my life? Because he didn’t want me with anyone else? I was about to lose my damn mind.

Dean POV

God! I couldn’t believe her. After all my efforts to keep her from wandering off so she would go straight home, she still went on this hilarious date. If I knew that she was going to do that, I would have told her to sleep with me instead.

Celine, you are truly unbelievable.

I couldn’t stand seeing her look so smug right after I acquired JIJO Group. I thought she would be in a good mood after seeing that I had built enough wealth to give her everything she once wanted.

Wasn’t that what she left me for?

She told me she wanted a divorce because love wasn’t enough to live a comfortable life.

Then, she heartlessly abandoned me. What could I have done?

Fall to my knees and beg her to love me? She didn’t even give me a proper reason.

However, I couldn’t simply let her go on with her life as if nothing had happened.

I knew she was cursing me in her mind.

The way her lips pressed together every time she saw me was proof enough.

“Mr. Harper! I’m exhausted and can’t keep working like this. If you’re not satisfied with my performance, please do us both a favor and dismiss me!”

She threw those words at me so fiercely that my heart started racing. Since this morning, I had been looking for every chance to see her, to touch her, to kiss her, to hear her regret for breaking her vow. I missed the taste of her lips, the feeling of holding her, of tracing every inch of her body. My entire body reacted the moment I touched her. Was I really that disgusting to her?

The thought stung.

She pushed me away with all her strength. Celine, you have to choose me! You little dirty liar can be only mine.

Fine! I would leave this place if she truly didn’t want me around tonight, but we were not done yet. She might be shocked.

I left without saying a word. Sitting in my car, I waited for her to come out.

The night breeze tousled her long hair as she walked toward her car. Her mood was completely sour. The way she hugged herself told me everything, I had ruined her date. She stopped near the river and stared at the water. I watched her from a distance, trying to figure out how to make things right. I truly wanted to rush ahead and hug her from behind, squeezing her small body hard to my body.

Running a hand through my hair, I looked down, frustrated by the effect only she still had on me. My cock was entirely aroused.

Damn it. This woman was driving me insane.
