Chapter 5

“Rex… Calantha made me take something—I don’t know what it was.”

“Our pup… my stomach hurts so much…”

Rex shoved me to the ground without hesitation.

“What did you do to her?”

Poppy sobbed uncontrollably, her voice breaking between breaths.

Only I knew—

she hadn’t swallowed a single pill.

Rex glanced at the tablets scattered on the floor—and his expression changed instantly.

Six years of a Mate Bond… he knew exactly what they were.

Fluoxetine.

Forbidden for pregnant wolves.

Panic flashed across his face. He lifted her into his arms and rushed into the bathroom, forcing his fingers down her throat to make her vomit.

Filth splattered across the pristine sink.

The same man who used to frown for minutes at a single strand of my hair on the floor—

was now wiping the mess from her lips with his bare hands, without the slightest trace of disgust.

Only after making sure she was fine did he walk back out.

His wolf eyes burned crimson, his aura pressing down until even the air felt tight.

“Calantha,” he said, voice cold and sharp, “are you really so incapable of tolerating a pup?”

If I were to tolerate her pup—

who, then, would have tolerated mine?

I stared blankly at the pills on the ground.

How ironic.

I had used every ounce of my mental strength to support him—helping him rise from a discarded outcast to the Alpha heir.

And in the process, I destroyed myself.

Depression hollowed me out, stripping away my abilities—

until I couldn’t even muster the strength to resist Rex’s commands anymore.
