Chapter 4 Crossing The Line

Victoria's POV

After minutes of thorough thinking, I decided to just read a book since I didn't have anything planned and I was trying not to think of the possibility of Daniel and Tessa together.

A few minutes into the book, someone knocked on the door and I frowned, wondering if Anna decided to stay after all but she wouldn't knock would she?

"Coming." I yelled, throwing on a hoodie.

I opened the door to find Daniel who was looking tired. I was happy that I even jumped on him and he immediately held me, his scent filling my nostrils.

"I missed you.'’ I told him truthfully.

"I missed you too pumpkin." He said, and I realized I’d missed him calling me pumpkin.

"Why didn't you follow them?" I asked, as we made ourselves comfortable on the bed.

He rolled his eyes, "And here I thought you'd be happy to see me."

A smile made its way to my face. "Of course I'm happy,” I told him, which was the truth. “I just thought that you'd prefer to be at a party on a Friday night." I added, not wanting to mention Tessa's name so I wouldn't sound jealous.

"I've missed hanging out with you and Anna who unfortunately has a boyfriend now."

"Me too. How's the preparation coming up?"

"I don't want to talk about school," he replied. “I'd rather talk about you. So what has been going on?"

I shrugged, "Nothing really, just trying to avoid Liz who won't stop asking if you were angry at her aside from that, nothing interesting except if you want to count gists about Anna and Jason." I said, fighting the urge to laugh, knowing there was no way he'd want that.

"Nay I'll pass.” He grumbled.

He paused for a moment, his eyes meeting mine and as much as I wanted to look away, I couldn't bring myself to. “When was the last time you had a nightmare?" He asked all of a sudden.

"Last week." I told him after a while. "It's getting better."

"It is."

The first time I resumed school here, I had nightmares almost everyday but I begged Anna not to tell the matron because I didn’t want to talk about it so instead, so instead, she told Daniel who understood and has been there for me since then.

"Let's watch a movie, which one do you want?" He asked.

"After." I suggested, since I had read the book and have always wanted to see the movie.

"Nope." He shook his head, "I can't stand another person fangirling on how handsome Hardin is.”

So he has watched it before and I'm sure it was with Tessa. She's so lucky. “What's wrong with me?" I thought

"Choose another one." He said.

"Life in a year." I said settling for the next movie I could think of.

"Sure." He went through my system and played it while I relaxed.

Turns out Jaden Smith was in the movie for me to gush about and Daniel would not stop groaning. It was the best thing.

"I am definitely more handsome than he is." He said

"If you say so." I joked.

He frowned, "You don't believe it?" He asked and I chuckled.

"Of course I believe." I said laughing.

As the credits rolled up, I was deep in tears while Daniel kept laughing at me. "It's just a movie pumpkin."

I shook my head. "But did she have to die? She was so pretty." I cried.

"Her cancer was pretty bad." He replied and I glared at him like it was his fault.

"A miracle could have saved her." I continued.

"I guess the writer did not want it like that. Stop crying now, the movie is over and the actress is fine wherever she is." He said, patting my back.

"Thanks for Nothing." I said, wiping the tears streaming down my face.

"You're welcome pumpkin."

We watched a series of comedies since it was almost 10pm, Daniel would have to go back to his place. "So why did you decide to stay back?" He asked.

"Nothing,” I shrugged. "I just wasn't in the mood.''

"Not in the mood to party, wow that's new." He said.

"You know I don't…" I trailed off, not wanting to let him know that I only attend parties because I wanted Anna and Jason to get close or because I wanted to be with him…yea, there's no way am I telling him that.

"You don't…" he said, urging me to continue.

"Forget I was saying anything"

"Nope, just finish it, you already started." He pushed.

"Forget it Dee."

"You asked for it." He said.

"Asked for what?" I was confused now, but instead of replying, he began tickling me because he knew that was my weak point.

"Stop it…I'm sorry." I said between laughter as tears dropped from my eyes

"Will you tell me?"

"I swear, it's nothing."

"You're not ready." He went back to tickling me and this time, he found my weak spot so I was laughing uncontrollably.

"Ok stop." I said finally and when he did, it was only then I realized the position we were in. He was sitting on me and my face was close to his.

"Are you going to tell me now?" He whispered loud enough for me to hear.

"Uhm…uhm." I couldn't find the right words to say as I concentrated on how perfect his lips were and I did what was in my head without thinking…I kissed him. He didn't respond, probably he was shocked or disgusted.

"I'm sorry…I didn't mean to–" I started, but was cut short when he placed his lips on mine and kissed me back and I swear I could taste strawberry or maybe it was my imagination. This is the best kiss I've ever had.

Focusing on the kiss, I noticed it was getting heated and we began fighting for dominance but of course he won. Sadly, it had to end as we both needed to breathe.

Catching my breath after that amazing kiss, I looked around awkwardly waiting for him to say something but he just kept looking at me. He's probably regretting it or maybe I wasn't as good as Tessa……there I go thinking about her again she wasn't here but she still danced around in my head, where was Anna, when I needed her.

The bell rang meaning it was time for guys to leave. I was happy as I couldn't bear the awkwardness.

"See you tomorrow pumpkin." He said, as he stood up to leave. As I closed the door behind me, I let my hand wander to my swollen lips as I tried to fight the tears that were threatening to spill.

Even if he wouldn't talk to me again at least I got an amazing kiss as a goodbye. I shouldn't be thinking negative thoughts right now only positive thoughts are allowed.I murmured to myself. So going under my covers, I let sleep take over my

thoughts.

When I woke up the next morning, Anna was sprawled up beside me. I didn't even know when she entered.

"Anna it's almost time for breakfast and I'm sure you don't want to miss it." I said tapping her repeatedly.

"I'm up…I'm up." she said

"What time did you come in?"

"I'm not sure."

"Can you do me a favor?" I asked as we finished dressing up.

"Yes"

"If Daniel ask for me, tell him I am meeting with one of the teachers

"On a Saturday"

"Yes, it was a last minute call."

"You want to tell me what is going on with you two?" she asked, sitting comfortably on the chair.

"Yes but not today. Now get out before he comes here.

Okay…

DANIEL POV

"I'm sure she doesn't hate you." Jason said, trying to put my mind at rest.

"She does, you did not see her face when I was leaving."

"That is because you did not say anything after. So what did you expect, a celebratory dance???" Gideon asked.

"Not helping man." Jason said.

"Oh my god! what if she never wants to see me again?" I was pacing around now, my head was all over the place.

"Now you're overthinking." Jason told me.

"I'm not, she didn't even come for breakfast." I pointed out.

"She was meeting a teacher, where were you when Anna was saying it? Gideon said, making both Jason and I turn to look at him.

"Dude she was lying." Jason said.

"Why would she lie against a teacher?" That boy is really dumb right now

"OK, imagine you were avoiding John, and he invited you to his house alone. What would you do?''

"I will probably tell him I was going out with my girlfriend."

"Do you have a girlfriend?" I asked.

"You know I don't."

"See you just lied about a non-existing girlfriend."

"Ohh dude…I think she's avoiding you." He said finally catching on

"Thanks for stating the obvious."

"I really messed up, I should've said something."

"Why didn't you? Was the kiss that bad?” Trust my friends to ask crazy questions at a crucial point.

I was surprised, shocked and over the moon as I never expected it and the kiss was the best I've ever had. And I wasn't just saying it because it's her.

"Better than Tessa??"

"Definitely"

"Damn, I should definitely ask…" Gideon started but I did not let him finish.

"Don't complete that statement if you still like your face the way it is."

"Sorry"

"Leave me now to wallow in my sorrow alone."

"Stop being dramatic and go talk to her.'' Jason said but I wasn't sure if I would.

"What will you do about Tessa? You know she likes you?"

"When I get to that bridge, I'll cross it."

"Wish you good luck bro.” He said patting my back and Gideon followed suit.

"Thanks guys"

"Sure, we'll see you later tonight."

"Oh for the class gathering, I'll try"

"You have to, it'll help you keep your mind off things." Jason advised.

"Okay, see you later then.” I said as they stepped out.

"God please help me." I pleaded silently.
