Chapter 5 The beast

Chapter 5

Xander's POV.

I've got so many girls who work for me in my chamber and none of them dare say no to whatever I ask of them. Most of them even threw their bodies at me for free, but this particular wolf seemed to be stubborn or should I say special?

I wasn't a regular beast. I was the Lycan king who had aggressively taken down many packs, made children orphans, and families homeless. I don't ask for respect, I command it, and if anything beautiful flashes through my eyes I would own it without thinking a second.

That was other girls, not Lynn Edgar— a wolf who had come begging on her knees for her mate to win the Alpha's position. She doesn't seem to fear me like others did.

Her intelligence and wisdom was top-notch. A perfect description of beauty with brains. I wonder why she preferred to stay with a man whom I could singlehandedly strip off his Alpha position without breaking a sweat, the man that was selling her and her daughter at a very affordable price to me.

She made me remember my missing mate, Angelina. My bowlegged shortie, dark colored hair, with those little voodoo eyes that did well in hypnotizing me. The only thing they had in common was their coding intelligence.

But I think fate knows the perfect timing. And now was the perfect time to get what I've always desired. To protect my pack.

She couldn't believe her eyes as she froze in front of me, looking like she had barely crawled out of the underworld, lost a fight with a demon, and still forgot her dignity on the way back.. That was the woman that once turned down my proposal when my mate got missing. But she was here being auctioned out to me with her daughter at a very affordable price.

Alpha Felipe was holding a young beautiful girl in his hand. With just a glance I knew she was her daughter—- the same amber eyes, nose, and lips. The only thing the little girl must have taken from her father was his skin.

“ The best option?,” Felipe disrupted the silence. But I didn't flinch or act as if I knew her. She also played her part perfectly by pretending we were total strangers. That was how smart she could be.

“ Good one from your end!” I brought out a stick of cigar from its pack. “ A moment of examination with her. Go with the child.”

Soon as Felipe's steps faded into silence, her throat forced open.

“ So you're the one that bought me and my daughter for that amount?” Her voice trembled and I could still trace dried tears on her cheeks.

I didn't say anything. I grabbed a stack of cigarettes, and fixed one in between my fingers to distract myself.

“ What else do you want from me after taking my months for a little favor?”

I ignited the cigar, allowing it to burn my throat. The ease was temporary because it couldn't tame the turmoil inside of me. The stakes of losing to the villains. “ You just say a little favor? You of all you should your so-called Alpha shouldn't be the Alpha if not for you, your sacrifices.”

“ Why are you here, Xander?“ Her voice was laced with pain and regret. No fear. No emotions. Just blunt as though she was ready for anything that would be tossed at her.

I puffed the smoke to her face, making her gag.“ a disrespect coming from someone I bought with a coin like a cattle, yet, she won't bow.”

The words seemed to cut her sharper than blades. Her shoulders slumped at both sides.

“ Being bought by some Lycan isn't a direct death sentence” I stubbed the cigar with my feet. “ You might be free if you cooperate”

Her eyes, that were seemingly filled with fury and pain, flung up to mine.

“ What's at stake?”

“The rogue Alphas have joined hands with the humans to threaten the Lycans. Our system was breached twelve times in three months because the rogues are selling our data to the humans. If you're lucky to create a concrete barrier between us, then I may consider your freedom.”

She heaved a deep sigh, and the flicker of hope stirring in her eyes.

“ if the humans and the rogue Alphas take over my pack system the Lycans will be in danger of being hunted for slaves or experiments.”

“ Also, if you succeed in protecting the pride of my clan then you and your daughter, including the little life in your womb, would be on life insurance in my pack.”

She pulled back, her hands which were formally at her waist, dropping in shock at both sides. “ You know I'm pregnant?”

She never knew the pack doctor was a hybrid of a Lycan and a werewolf. She has been my informant ever since the very first beginning.

“ More reasons why you should cooperate with me, Lynn. The decision is yours to make.”

She dragged a deep breath, and remained silent. The kind of silence that speaks louder than a voice. I took her silence for a yes.

As we departed the crescent Moon pack, something surged in her eyes as she pulled her daughter tightly and shot Felipe a rare, devilish, glimpse. That kind of glimpse that screamed revenge or something darker…..death.

After some hours of driving in my Mercedes Benz, I pulled to a stop, the screeching tyre blaring off the air.

“ Mummy, where are we? These creatures are dangerous!” Her little daughter clutched tightly to her, trembling. I was sure this was her first time seeing someone shifting into a beast instead of a wolf.

“ We are in the Apex clan of the Lycans. Our new home. They won't hurt us.” Her fingers curled into hers.

As I stepped my feet out, Beta Alessandro, my personal assistant and ever loyal servant was already waiting for us at the door.

Alessandro might be strange to her daughter but wasn't strange to her. Lynn worked anonymously with my clan for four months when she wanted her mate to win against his brother, and she did create a good, tighter connection between some of my pack members.

“ Never expected to see you here again on purchase, ” Alessandro exchanged hands of greetings. She stared at the hand as though she was skeptical about it.

“ I'll be free soon,” She closed in, her voice deep and intention

al. “ And know this, I won't just be free.”

“ I'll never belong here again.”
