Chapter 6 It's Not That I Don't Want Michael
Olivia quickly packed her things and left without looking back.
As she walked through the office, the employees watched her closely.
But she showed no signs of disappointment or sadness; her expression was unusually calm.
Wasn't this a kind of liberation?
She never liked this job anyway.
She blamed herself for being foolish enough to give up the work she excelled at for Michael.
Her steps quickened as she exited the elevator, only to bump into Chase.
Seeing Olivia carrying a bunch of items, Chase immediately launched into a tirade, "Well, well, look who's here looking like a kicked-out lapdog. Oh, it's you... Olivia!
How does it feel to be thrown out? Not great, huh? I told you long ago this position wasn't meant for you. Whether it's the head of the research lab or being part of the Johnson family, none of that was ever meant for you.
Now that Sophia's back, you should face reality."
Olivia's gaze was icy as she looked at Chase.
Once, because she loved Michael, she had been kind to Chase and even tried to win over the Johnson family, hoping they would like her.
But no matter what she did, Chase remained harsh towards her.
She hadn't understood why back then, but now, seeing the undisguised fervor in his eyes when he mentioned Sophia, she suddenly got it.
Olivia let out a mocking laugh and replied, "I see things clearly now. I used to think you were a wolf that couldn't be tamed, but now I know you're just a lapdog who can't get what he wants."
Chase hadn't expected Olivia to insult him.
In the past, Olivia had been like a block of wood, enduring his mockery and insults without a word.
But now, she dared to call him a lapdog?
"Olivia, you looking for trouble?" Chase's face darkened, his gaze cold.
"What's wrong? Did I hit a sore spot?" Olivia's eyes held a touch of deliberate mockery as she looked at him.
Chase was furious, snapping, "You have the nerve to say that to me? You took advantage of my brother when he was drunk and wormed your way in—how shameless can you be? No wonder my brother hasn't loved you all these years and is now eager to make room for Sophia. He must have seen through your despicable tactics."
Mentioning the incident from four years ago still stung Olivia.
Back then, she had always believed that Michael knew he was drunk, leading to that unexpected event.
Could it be... he had always thought she manipulated the situation?
No matter what, it didn't matter now. She had already decided to divorce, so what was there to care about?
Chase thought his words had deeply hurt Olivia, feeling victorious.
He continued to hit her where it hurt, "Olivia, just wait. Right now, you're just leaving the company, but soon, you'll be out of the Johnson family too!"
Unexpectedly, Olivia's expression remained indifferent, a sneer playing on her lips. "Chase, listen carefully. Whether I leave the Johnson family or not isn't up to you—it's up to me. I'm the one who doesn't want Michael anymore."
"Instead of wasting your time trying to mess with me, why don't you work on improving your skills? You have no idea how many people call you a useless trust fund baby behind your back."
With that, Olivia didn't wait for Chase's response and walked away with a light step, not looking back.
Behind her, Chase was fuming, practically jumping up and down in rage!
After returning from the company, Olivia focused on spending time with Bianca.
Bianca was in her playroom, carefully assembling the LEGO set Olivia had bought a few days ago.
Their nanny, Yara, watched her nearby.
But the toy was quite complex, and Bianca often got stuck, her little face showing signs of frustration.
"Bianca, don't worry, I will help you!"
In front of Bianca, Olivia's eyes always radiated a gentle smile.
She patiently taught Bianca, and together, mother and daughter slowly pieced the toy together bit by bit.
At Johnson Group, after Olivia left, Sophia took over her work.
She had planned to make a big impression once Olivia was gone, to make everyone see her in a new light.
But when she actually started, she found that due to incomplete handover, she couldn't fully grasp much of the data.
Several computer access permissions were also blocked.
Sophia's expression changed slightly, remembering the words Olivia had tried to say before leaving, which she had cut off.
Her face darkened.
She couldn't admit this was her fault.
After a few seconds of thought, Sophia regained her composure and took the elevator to the CEO's office on the top floor.
When she arrived, the assistant buzzed in to announce her.
Michael quickly responded, "Let her in."
Sophia walked in and softly called out, "Michael."
Michael put down the document he was reading, his expression softening, and asked, "Why are you here? Weren't you supposed to be handling the handover? How's it going?"
"The handover is done, but..." Sophia lowered her eyes, her tone hesitant, as if unsure whether to speak.
Michael frowned slightly, asking, "But what? Did Olivia give you a hard time?"
Sophia bit her lip and shook her head, "No, she didn't give me a hard time... but she might have been in a bad mood, which led to some oversights in the handover... I can't access many permissions now and can't start working properly!"
Michael's eyes darkened, his gaze cold.
He stood up and asked Sophia in a low voice, "Is she still at the company?"
Sophia replied, "No, she's already left."
She quickly put on a considerate expression, saying, "Michael, don't be mad at her. I think Olivia didn't do it on purpose. It's my fault for not being careful enough and not noticing in time.
If I had paid more attention earlier, this wouldn't have happened..."
"Don't make excuses for her." Michael interrupted her, his expression unhappy, "This isn't your fault. Olivia did this deliberately. Sophia, I'll handle this. You go back and wait for my update."
With that, Michael grabbed his jacket and left the office.
Sophia watched his departing figure, a satisfied smile curling her lips.
