Chapter 2

She moved her body slowly and made it back to her room. She threw herself onto her bed and pulled the pillow over her head. Her shoulders trembled, and stifled sounds filled the room. She fell asleep in tears and sorrow, but after several hours, she was startled awake by a ping from her phone, as if she hadn't been peacefully sleeping before.

She unlocked the phone and saw a picture sent to her. Her face darkened for a moment, and her hand began to shake. In the photo, a god-like man was leaning lazily on a couch, his head resting back. In his arms was a beautiful woman kissing him on the lips. Below it was a message:

"He is mine for tonight and the rest of the days to come."

She checked the time the message was sent—it was ten o'clock in the evening. Looking at the current time, she realized it was four o'clock in the morning. A weak smile appeared on her face as the phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor. A river of tears streamed down her cheeks as she sat on the bed, feeling as though her life had been drained from her body.

The man in the photo was none other than her husband, and the woman beside him was his best friend's sister, Cecelia Desmond. Cecelia's brother had fought alongside Edward when they were soldiers, and Edward once saved him from a bullet. The injury left Jacob in a coma for several years, and Edward did everything he could to keep him alive. One day, Jacob woke up and made Edward promise to take care of his sister when he was gone. On Alexia and Edward's wedding day, Jacob died. So their wedding anniversary was also the anniversary of his death.

Everyone knew that Cecelia was attached to Edward, wanting him for herself, but they all chose to ignore her advances since no one wanted to see her sad, even though he had got married. Apart from the Frank family, she had no other relatives she could call family. Thus, the whole family pampered her and gave in to her every demand. After all, her brother had saved the life of the family's only son.

Alexia got up from the bed and walked to the wardrobe, thinking,

"I should trust him; he wouldn't do it. No matter how drunk he is, he wouldn't give in to her. He's a master at holding his liquor—nothing happened. I will go to that hotel and confirm my belief in him."

She changed her clothes, putting on a white top, skinny jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Pulling her hair up into a ponytail, she quietly left the house. Although there were several luxury cars parked outside, the car she owned was an old Corolla. When she reached it, she sighed and spoke to it,

"You are my only friend in this mansion. I hope you don't betray me today, because I'm on an important mission."

Alexia drove out of the house. It was still cloudy, and the road was shrouded in morning dew that had not yet dissipated. She drove carefully, feeling a heaviness in her chest. Tapping her chest, she reminded herself,

"You are strong, you are wise, your tears are your treasure. Don't waste them on unimportant things."

A few minutes later, she arrived at the hotel and headed to room 1106, just as mentioned in the text message.…

——

Meanwhile, in room 1109, a man was sleeping soundly on a huge bed. He wore no shirt, revealing his broad, muscular chest. Even while sleeping, the man's elegant posture suggested he had been well raised, but his furrowed brow showed he had probably drunk a lot the night before.

Directly opposite room 1109 was room 1106. Inside, a nearly naked woman, dressed only in her underwear, lay on the large bed with two bulky men snoring on either side of her. Her pretty face was filled with disgust as she pinched her nose, trying to avoid the stench of their breath. She scooted as far as possible from their smelly bodies.

She had to do this if she wanted to get Edward, and she hoped Alexia wouldn't let her down.
