Chapter 11

“Since Teresa was born, I’ve never thought of giving her up. I’ve worked hard to raise her. No one has the right to take her away from me, not even her biological father!”

Eileen Barton glared at Corey Bruce with eyes filled with fury, as if she wanted to swallow him whole.

Even though Eileen Barton was clearly extremely angry, Corey Bruce still thought of her as a woman with ulterior motives.

Since I’ve already exposed myself, why keep acting?

It’s not pleasant at all like this. Why not just be straightforward?

“Why go to such lengths? You’ve already achieved your goal, and I’ve unconditionally fulfilled your requests. Don’t you know how to be satisfied?”

Corey Bruce looked at the woman before him. She seemed on the verge of breaking down. So, he softened his tone slightly and tried to persuade her.

Eileen Barton snorted. Why did this man keep insisting that he had ulterior motives? In his eyes, was I really such a despicable woman who would abandon her own daughter for money?

No! That’s absolutely impossible!

“I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. No matter what your conditions are, I’m not willing to let my daughter leave me.”

“Please put aside your arrogance and leave me alone. You’re not welcome here.”

As she spoke, Eileen Barton picked up Teresa Barton in her arms. This time, she held her tightly.

I opened the door, waiting for Corey Bruce to leave.

Cory Bruce made a mistake. He thought he could buy his way out of dealing with this vain woman, but he never expected her to be so stubborn.

But it doesn’t matter. Maybe the woman still hasn’t achieved her goals. It’s just a matter of time. He has plenty of time to spend with her.

Cory Bruce was lost in his own self-righteous speculations as he walked toward the door.

“It’s okay. I have plenty of time. You can take your time to think it over.”

“Trisha, Dad will come to play with you again next time!” He said these words affectionately to Trisha Barton, then left without looking back.

Eileen Barton slammed the door shut with a loud “bang,” scaring Teresa Barton terribly. Teresa hugged Eileen Barton tightly around the neck.

Only then did I realize that I was acting emotionally and had scared Teresa Barton.

“I’m sorry, Teresa. It’s Mom’s fault for scaring you.”

Eileen Barton stroked Teresa Barton’s little head, comforting the frightened child.

After the initial shock wore off, Theresa Barton wasn’t afraid anymore. She raised her hand and touched Eileen Barton’s face.

“Mom, why don’t you like Uncle Handsome?”

Teresa Barton’s round eyes were filled with sincerity. That was her biggest question.

Corey Bruce is tall, handsome, and rich, why doesn’t Mom ever smile when she sees him? It seems like she even dislikes him.

Eileen Barton was both annoyed and amused. Children don’t lie. She could tell that Teresa Barton really liked Corey Bruce. No wonder—after all, they were father and daughter.

“Teresa, these are matters between adults. When you grow up, Mom will explain them to you, okay?” For the moment, Eileen Barton didn’t know how to explain these things, so she made up a random excuse to get by.

But Teresa Barton blinked her eyes. “But I want Uncle Handsome to be my dad, to protect you and me!”

That’s exactly what Teresa Barton really thinks. Children’s thoughts are always so innocent and romantic.

But she was very grateful to Theresa Barton for having this idea. After all, it was done to prevent herself from being bullied.

“Teresa, be good. Let’s talk about this later.”

At this point, Eileen Barton remembered what Corey Bruce had said about looking for a spouse.

Who knows what’s going on here? I’m afraid only Theresa Barton knows.

“Teresa, tell Mom, do you know what that marriage proposal Uncle just mentioned was about?” Eileen Barton asked seriously.

When Teresa Barton was asked the question, she lowered her head, a little embarrassed.

“Mom, it was me who sent the photo to Uncle Shuai.” At these words, Teresa Barton’s face turned red.

Eileen Barton almost fainted.

Putting down Teresa Barton, I opened my computer’s email inbox. Sure enough, there was an email there. In addition to some photos of daily life, there was also a letter from Teresa Barton. The entire letter was about how she wanted Corey Bruce to be her father.

After reading the email, Eileen Barton was truly surprised. She hadn’t expected that Teresa Barton, at such a young age, could already use the computer so skillfully.

Perhaps Teresa Barton simply thought that Corey Bruce had all the right qualities, which is why she emailed him.

But sometimes, things work out unexpectedly well. This time, it turned out to be a stroke of luck, as I even found my biological father.

Eileen Barton had somewhat underestimated the child’s intelligence.

“What?” Emily Church stared at the mother and daughter in shock, barely able to believe it.

“Is Corey Bruce Teresa’s biological father?”

The noise was so loud that both the mother and daughter couldn’t help but cover their ears.

“What are you doing? Speak more quietly. Everyone in the building can hear you.” Eileen Barton said impatiently.

Emily Church never imagined that just one day away from home could lead to such a huge incident.

Staring at that paternity test, Emily Church couldn’t believe it for a long time.

Who would have thought that the male idol of countless girls already had a five-year-old daughter? How could anyone have imagined such a thing?

“Aileen, do you really have no memory of him at all?” Emily Church couldn’t believe it. Her best friend, Aileen Barton, had absolutely no memory of Corey Bruce, the man she spent the night with!

You know, this is something that countless women would die for.

Eileen Barton looked embarrassed. “I was completely drunk and drugged at the time. How could I possibly remember anything?”

If there’s anything I remember, it’s just Corey Bruce’s familiar body scent when he was close to me. That’s the only memory I have of him.

No wonder I found Corey Bruce’s photo familiar when I saw it before.

Emily Church was completely shocked, but Eileen Barton remained utterly calm. It simply didn’t make any scientific sense!

“Are you not surprised at all?” Emily Church was very curious about what Eileen Barton was thinking right now!

“Surprised? He’s here to take Teresa away. I’m too angry to even feel surprised. What’s there to be surprised about?” Eileen Barton said, gritting her teeth.

There was surprise, but when I thought about Corey Bruce speaking arrogantly and insulting me, and also trying to take Teresa Barton away, all that surprise turned into anger.

Emily Church smiled and patted Teresa Barton’s little head. “Little lady, do you know that you’ve found your real father?”

Teresa Barton didn’t understand. She tilted her head and waited for Emily Church to explain further. “Auntie, is Uncle Handsome the person who gave birth to me?”

Emily Church couldn’t help but laugh and cry. “Yes, you’re really amazing!”

Emily Church never could have imagined that what the little guy said was true—that the email had actually been sent to her!

But judging from Eileen Barton’s attitude, it seems she isn’t willing to hand Teresa Barton over to Corey Bruce.

“Aileen, what are your plans now?” Emily Church asked tentatively.
