Chapter 3
Eileen Barton smiled, then suddenly remembered something and quickly asked, “I heard you’ve hired a new spokesperson. Who is it?”
“Alice Barton is beautiful and has a great figure. I heard her fiancé is Henry Warren, a bigwig in the entertainment industry.”
Alice Barton handed the magazine next to the seat to Eileen Barton, her tone filled with envy. “The two of them have been together for a long time. They’re getting married this month.”
Eileen Barton took the magazine. On the cover, Henry Warren and his partner were hugging each other, their eyes filled with deep love.
Henry Warren was dressed in a custom-made black suit. His deep eyes seemed capable of capturing anyone’s heart. The corners of his mouth formed a perfect curve, and he exuded the aura of a successful man.
It’s a man who seems to be flawless on the surface. Perhaps only Eileen Barton knows how sinister he really is.
Next to her, Alice Barton wore a white dress, revealing her long, straight legs. Her wavy hair added to her feminine charm.
Look how well these two match together. One is the president of the Warren Group, and the other is a highly popular superstar. They lead a happy and fulfilling life, while she endures hardships in a foreign land.
Thinking of this, her numb heart suddenly stung. She thought she could forget those painful memories, but it turned out they were deeply etched in her heart all along.
Seeing Eileen Barton staring blankly, Emily Church spoke up gently, “What’s wrong? Are you interested in them?”
Upon hearing this, Eileen Barton quickly shook her head. “No, I was just asking out of curiosity.”
Emily Church didn’t think much of it and continued driving carefully. “It’s good for you to learn more about it. After all, you’ll be DL’s chief designer in the future.”
“I’m here today just to apply for the position. There’s no guarantee I’ll be successful.”
Back when the Su Corporation went bankrupt, the Su family’s ancestral home was seized to cover the debts. This incident has always been a burden for Eileen Barton.
Previously, she didn’t have the means to do so, but now it’s different. She wants to buy back the Su family’s old house—it’s the only thing her parents left her.
“Don’t worry, I recommended you, and since you’re so capable, there’s no way anything will go wrong.” Emily Church tilted her head slightly upwards, looking completely confident.
Hearing her say that, Eileen Barton felt relieved.
Before long, the car came to a stop in front of DL’s headquarters.
Emily Church led the way, holding Teresa Barton’s hand, with Eileen Barton following behind them.
Theresa Barton’s lovely appearance attracted many looks, but she remained very calm and composed, her serene demeanor truly endearing.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you to meet the interviewer.” Emily Church had already arranged everything in advance. She was extremely thorough in her approach to tasks.
Eileen Barton nodded, then followed Emily Church to the door of the interview room on the third floor. “Hello, I’m the person conducting the interview.”
After a moment, a steady male voice said, “Come in.”
The interviewer was a middle-aged man, dressed in a suit and looking very respectable.
“I’ve already read your resume. The company you worked for before offered great benefits. Why did you quit suddenly?” The man put down the resume and glanced up at Eileen Barton.
Eileen Barton remained calm and replied calmly, “The benefits are indeed good, but there’s limited room for promotion. Your company is currently in a period of growth and needs talented people. Plus, I want to develop my career in China in the future. So, DL is the best choice for me.”
“You’re already a well-known designer. It’s an honor for us to have you join us.”
The man stood up and extended his hand to Eileen Barton in a gentlemanly manner.
With Eileen Barton’s qualifications, she’s more than qualified to be the chief designer. Naturally, the interviewer didn’t need to consider anything further.
Eileen Barton smiled and politely reached out to shake the man’s hand. “Please take care of me in the future as well.”
That’s how it was decided then. As soon as she opened the door, Emily Church rushed forward, looking at Eileen Barton with anticipation. “How did it go?”
Eileen Barton smiled and nodded, her lips curling involuntarily. “Of course.”
“That’s great! I knew you could do it!”
Emily Church immediately hugged Eileen Barton. Now, both mother and daughter could settle down here, which was truly exciting.
Since she still needed to go through the onboarding procedures, Emily Church temporarily left Teresa Barton in the care of her colleagues.
Office area.
Everyone gathered around Teresa Barton. Even Liu Linxue, who usually didn’t like children, stood by and watched.
“Hello, my name is Theresa Barton. I’m five years old.”
Teresa Barton had round eyes with thick, curled eyelashes that were as soft as velvet. They sparkled beautifully.
Her smiling face brought joy to everyone who saw it.
“These are for you. Do you like them?”
Lidia Lawson handed the newly purchased Barbie doll and several cute stuffed animals to Teresa Barton. Not knowing which ones Teresa liked, Lidia bought a few of each.
Theresa Barton quickly shook her head and pouted. “These are things little girls play with. I’m not interested at all.”
After saying that, he pointed at the chess set on the bookshelf and said, “Let’s play chess!”
Hearing this, everyone was utterly shocked.
“Are you sure?” Lydia Lawson stared at Teresa Barton with wide eyes, clearly incredulous.
Theresa Barton nodded, her expression resolute.
……
Emily Church showed Eileen Barton around the company, and then they went through the onboarding procedures.
By the time they had finished everything, two hours had passed without them even realizing it.
“Congratulations! From now on, we’ll be colleagues.” Emily Church patted Eileen Barton’s shoulder playfully.
Eileen Barton smiled, her eyes filled with gratitude. “You’ve helped me so much while I was abroad. Now, you’ve even found me such a great job. I…”
“Stop talking like that. Do we really need to be so formal with each other?” Emily Church knew what Eileen Barton was about to say, so she quickly interrupted her.
Immediately afterwards, Emily Church showed Eileen Barton around her office. It was quite impressive and had everything one could possibly need.
“Wait here for me a moment. I need to use the restroom.”
Seeing Emily Church nod, Eileen Barton turned and left the office.
As soon as she pushed open the bathroom door, a woman rushed straight into her, accompanied by harsh cursing, “Don’t you have eyes?”
“Why is it you?”
Eileen Barton widened her eyes. From the day she decided to return home, she knew she might encounter Alice Barton. But she never expected it to happen so soon, and in such a way.
The assistant nearby rushed over to check if Alice Barton was injured. Then, with a haughty expression, he said to Eileen Barton, “Who are you? You scared Miss Barton. Apologize right away!”
The shock in Alice Barton’s eyes had been replaced by disdain. Eileen Barton before her was dressed plainly, without any luxury items on her. The former young lady of the Su family had ended up like this after all. How pitiable.
