Chapter 6

Theresa Barton pursed her lips and spoke carefully, “The pain started in the early hours of the morning. I wasn’t want to wake you up, so I just…”

“You silly child, I can sleep anytime. But your illness must not be delayed.”

Eileen Barton held Teresa Barton in her arms, overcome with grief, and tears streamed down her face.

The mother and daughter relied on each other for survival, always putting the other’s needs first. Teresa Barton has been very sensible since childhood and has never caused any trouble for her mother.

“Mom, I’m fine. I just need to take some medicine. You still need to go on a date with Uncle. You must not be late.”

Teresa Barton frowned. If her mother couldn’t go to the appointment because of her, then everything would be ruined. She wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen.

Eileen Barton was completely confused. All her attention was focused on Teresa Barton, so she didn’t ask any further questions.

Upon learning that Teresa Barton was ill, Emily Church immediately took time off from work and drove to the hospital.

In the car, Eileen Barton held Teresa Barton tightly in her arms, occasionally wiping the sweat from Teresa’s forehead with a handkerchief.

Emily Church gripped the steering wheel tightly, her eyes filled with guilt. “Eileen, it’s my fault. I didn’t know she couldn’t drink milk.”

“Yesterday there were too many things going on, so I forgot to tell you. That’s why this happened. Please don’t blame yourself too much.”

If possible, Eileen Barton would rather bear this pain for Teresa Barton herself.

The First Hospital in the city center.

Eileen Barton performed a series of examinations on Teresa Barton. But when it came time for the infusion, she was told that there were no available beds.

“Doctor, please think of another way to help her.” Eileen Barton grabbed the doctor’s arm, pleading earnestly.

That doctor didn’t even lift his eyelids. His expression was completely indifferent. “Hospital beds are in extremely short supply. Don’t you see that everyone’s sitting in chairs in the hallway getting IV drips?”

Just then, a middle-aged man in a white coat approached, comparing the photo in his hands with Eileen Barton’s face.

Eileen Barton found it strange why the doctor was staring at her and her daughter for so long.

“Doctor, could you please be flexible? My daughter is still very young. Could you arrange a bed for her?” Since the previous doctor wasn’t helpful, maybe this doctor, who seems more authoritative, might be willing to help if I plead with him?

For Teresa Barton, Eileen Barton would do anything.

But the middle-aged man in the white coat ignored Eileen Barton’s question. After confirming it several times, he simply turned away.

“Hello, Mr. Bruce. We’ve found the mother and daughter.”

As the doctor turned around, Eileen Barton noticed that he was holding a photo of her and her daughter in his hands!

“Doctor, why do you have my photo?” Eileen Barton frowned slightly, looking wary.

The doctor was caught off guard and didn’t know what to say for a moment, so he simply walked away quickly.

Eileen Barton was also holding Teresa Barton in her arms. Since Teresa Barton wasn’t feeling well, Eileen stopped chasing after them.

With no other choice, Eileen Barton had to hold Teresa Barton in her arms while administering the IV drip in the hallway.

After paying the medical bills, Emily Church searched everywhere for the mother and daughter. Finally, she found them in a small corner of the hallway.

“What’s going on? Why are they getting an IV here?” Seeing the mother and daughter like this, Emily Church felt heartbroken.

Eileen Barton shrugged helplessly. “The doctor said there are no beds available. It’s too crowded and noisy outside. Teresa needs to sleep, and I didn’t want the noise to disturb her. That’s why I came here. There aren’t many people here at all.”

As she spoke, Eileen Barton pulled the little blanket covering Teresa Barton slightly, afraid she might catch a cold.

Kids can’t take much disturbance. As soon as they sit down, they fall asleep right away, no matter how much noise there is outside.

Emily Church handed the food she was holding to Eileen Barton, taking her place.

“Emily, it’s good that you’re here. Otherwise, I really wouldn’t know when I’d be able to eat something.”

Eileen Barton held food in her hands. After a whole day of hard work, she finally got a chance to eat. She couldn’t help but feel emotional.

Emily Church smiled. “Come on, you’re already back in your home country. Stop thinking about these things. Teresa is my goddaughter. If I won’t help you, then who will?”

Hearing these words, Eileen Barton felt a warmth in her heart. To have such friends by her side who took care of her and kept helping her, Eileen Barton was truly content.

After eating something, Teresa Barton was held by Emily Church, while Eileen Barton rested nearby.

Before she knew it, Eileen Barton had dozed off.

It wasn’t until her hands could no longer hold on and her head almost fell off that Eileen Barton finally came to her senses.

This movement also woke Emily Church, who was sitting nearby. Emily Church had fallen asleep while sitting there. After a day of hard work, it was truly exhausting.

“Aileen, you scared me to death! I thought you were going to fall down.” Emily Church yawned and complained.

Eileen Barton smiled sheepishly. “I’ve been holding Teresa all day. I’m so tired!”

As she spoke, Eileen Barton also stretched herself.

In an instant, both people’s pupils dilated simultaneously, and a sense of unease surged in them.

“Where’s Teresa?” the two of them said in unison.

Eileen Barton began to panic. She had clearly seen Teresa Barton in Emily Church’s arms just before going to bed. So why wasn’t she there anymore when she woke up?

Emily Church was even more panicked and at a loss. “Where’s Teresa? Weren’t she sleeping in my arms?”

“Oh no, oh no! I must have fallen asleep accidentally, and Teresa has been taken away by someone!”

The two of them looked around everywhere. Strangely enough, even Teresa Barton’s IV bottle had been taken away!

“Hurry up and look around everywhere! Ask the nurses too!”

“Okay, okay, okay.” The two of them were extremely anxious and searched everywhere.

Eileen Barton was extremely worried. Teresa Barton hadn’t ever left her side since she was a child. Even when Eileen Barton went to wash dishes at work, she would carry Teresa on her back.

This Teresa Barton is missing now. Who knows what kind of suffering she might be going through?

Eileen Barton searched everywhere, with tears welling up in her eyes. But Eileen Barton held back her tears, not letting them fall.

“Teresa, where are you?”

“Nurse, have you seen my daughter?”

Everyone cast strange looks at this woman who was on the verge of collapse. What differed was that they couldn’t understand how Eileen Barton felt at that moment.

Everyone who was asked by Eileen Barton shook their heads, saying they hadn’t seen her.

Deep guilt weighed heavily on Eileen Barton’s heart. If only she hadn’t dozed off, nothing of this would have happened.

Unable to find Teresa Barton, Eileen Barton simply sat on the ground, crying bitterly.

“Teresa, please come out! Mommy was wrong!”

It’s clear from the conversation what happened. Everyone felt sorry for the woman who was crying loudly.

And at this very moment, Theresa Barton is being held in arms by a handsome man, with a smile on her face.

Corey Bruce carried Teresa Barton toward the hospital lobby. It had to be said, this little girl with big eyes and a chubby face was simply adorable.

Corey Bruce fell head over heels in love with her the moment he saw her.

“Teresa Barton, is it really that delicious?” Corey Bruce pinched Teresa Barton’s chubby cheeks.
