Chapter 8
“How can you speak such nonsense? Holding someone else’s child is already wrong. Don’t you feel any remorse at all? Do you even know how hard I’ve been trying to find her?” Eileen Barton was furious inside, completely unable to tolerate this behavior of treating her daughter as a joke.
Emily Church understood what had happened. It turned out that Corey Bruce had taken Teresa Barton away. Strange, why didn’t she feel anything at all?
Thinking about it, it’s really my own fault for falling asleep carelessly! But why would Corey Bruce take Teresa Barton away like that?
Even Emily Church hadn’t figured this out!
“Who knows if all this was carefully planned by you?” Corey Bruce said in a sarcastic tone, as if mocking Eileen Barton.
In Corey Bruce’s eyes, Eileen Barton suddenly returned five years later with a child in tow. What could be her motives? Or maybe it was all part of Eileen Barton’s plan? Including arranging their meeting at the hospital!
Eileen Barton found it completely baffling!
“Sir, are you joking? Carefully planned? Which mother would make jokes about her own daughter? And whom am I trying to ‘carefully plan’ something for? What’s the point of all this? I don’t even know who you are!” Eileen Barton retorted angrily. The arrogant man before her was simply repulsive to her.
But Corey Bruce didn’t agree. In his eyes, everything Erin Barton did was purposeful.
“I don’t know her. You’re really good at acting!” Corey Bruce laughed even more mockingly, as if in his eyes, Eileen Barton was a woman full of scheming, and she refused to admit it even though he had seen through her.
Teresa Barton didn’t understand why this handsome uncle seemed to change completely after meeting her mother. His smile was even a bit scary.
“Uncle , what’s wrong? Why are you smiling in such a scary way?” Teresa Barton asked Corey Bruce in a childish voice.
Whenever Theresa Barton spoke, Corey Bruce’s cold heart would instantly melt. What little earlier had been a cold and aloof expression now gave way to a heartwarming smile.
“Don’t be afraid, Theresa Barton. Uncle isn’t scary at all. In fact, uncle really likes Theresa Barton!” Corey Bruce seemed like a completely different person from just now.
Eileen Barton and Emily Church were so surprised that their jaws almost dropped.
“Hey, please be more respectful. I’m Teresa’s mother. If there’s anything you want to say, address it to me.” Eileen Barton always felt that this person had something on their mind, but for some reason, they never said anything.
Out of a desire to protect her daughter, Eileen Barton subconsciously assumed that this person wanted to harm her daughter.
“Hmph.” Corey Bruce snorted coldly, his face full of disdain.
“Theresa Barton, Uncle has to go now! Make sure to take your medicine, okay?” Corey Bruce completely ignored what he had just said. After talking to Theresa Barton, he turned around and left.
Theresa Barton smiled sweetly, having no idea at all how much trouble this handsome uncle had caused her mother.
After Corey Bruce left, Eileen Barton immediately put Teresa Barton down and examined her carefully from head to toe.
I wasn’t relieved until I confirmed that there wasn’t any problem at all.
Because she had no idea what had actually happened during the time that Teresa Barton was away from her.
“Teresa, tell your mother, where did that man take you just now? What did he do?” Eileen Barton looked nervous. It’s a mother’s natural reaction in such situations.
Teresa Barton had raised herself from a young age. Every little problem made her extremely nervous. And now, she was being taken away by a completely stranger for a while!
“Mom, Uncle took Teresa to a room where there were doctors. He also gave me candy!” Teresa Barton replied to her mother with a smile. It was clear that the man hadn’t done anything to Teresa Barton at all.
“And then? Besides giving you candy, did he do anything else to you?”
Eileen Barton tightly held Teresa Barton’s little hand, nervously.
Theresa Barton felt a little pain and struggled to get free.
“Mom, you’re hurting me! Uncle is just chatting with me and playing games with me,” Teresa Barton muttered, pouting and looking at Eileen Barton with sad eyes.
Eileen Barton then realized that she was overly nervous, having clenched Teresa Barton’s little hands so tightly that they turned red.
“Alright, alright, it’s nothing serious. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have dozed off! Right, Teresa?” Emily Church knew that Eileen Barton was too nervous, so she took Teresa Barton in her arms to ease the tension.
But Eileen Barton still felt very uneasy. Why would a strange man just take Teresa Barton away like that? And in Corey Bruce’s words, he claimed everything was carefully planned. He said he didn’t even know her at all. Then why did it seem like she knew him very well?
A series of questions kept swirling in Eileen Barton’s mind, impossible to figure out.
After Teresa Barton finished her IV drip, her condition improved slightly. Emily Church then took them home.
As soon as she got in the car, Theresa Barton fell asleep in Eileen Barton’s arms, rocked by the car’s movement.
“Aileen, why was Corey Bruce at the hospital? And why did he take Teresa away? It’s completely baffling.” Emily Church shared the same doubts as Aileen Barton.
Eileen Barton frowned deeply. For her, every matter related to her daughter’s safety required her to remain vigilant at all times.
“I find it strange too. I don’t know this man at all, yet he acts like he’s known me for a long time.”
Apart from having seen this man named Corey Bruce in some financial magazines and reports, Eileen Barton knew very little about him.
Emily Church was no exception. It’s normal for women to be a little infatuated with someone. But Corey Bruce’s behavior today was truly strange.
“Never mind. But it seems like Teresa really likes him! That’s what’s most strange.” Eileen Barton began to wonder about Teresa’s behavior, unsure what was wrong.
Emily Church thought of how, a few days earlier, Theresa Barton had seriously said she wanted Corey Bruce to be her father.
No wonder. The person who took her away happened to be exactly the kind of person she wanted to find for her mother. It would be strange if she didn’t like him.
“Ah, Teresa… She really lacks a father’s love. No wonder she likes him so much. Really, don’t you plan to find a father for Teresa?” Emily Church tried to change the subject, while also discussing Eileen Barton’s personal life.
But precisely, this touched upon the most vulnerable part of Eileen Barton’s heart.
Eileen Barton’s eyes darkened slightly, and a hint of sadness flashed in them, but it disappeared immediately.
Emily Church hadn’t yet realized that she had accidentally stepped on Erin Barton’s “minefield”.
Five years have passed. The presence of Teresa Barton has always represented the vulnerability in my heart. But if it weren’t for Teresa Barton, I might not be alive today. I live for Teresa Barton!
