Chapter 9
The events of those years gradually came back to her mind. Eileen Barton swore that she would make sure those who had brought her to this situation suffered the consequences!
“Seriously, isn’t Teresa’s father Henry Warren?” Emily Church was too focused on driving to notice anything amiss with Eileen Barton.
Eileen Barton turned her head away. “No, Teresa doesn’t have a worthless father like that.”
It wasn’t until Eileen Barton spoke that Emily Church realized something was wrong and realized she had said the wrong thing.
But even if Eileen Barton wasn’t happy to hear this, Emily Church had to keep speaking anyway. After all, it involved Teresa Barton’s childhood.
“Then you have no intention of trying to find Teresa’s biological father?” That was what Emily Church cared most about.
Eileen Barton isn’t exactly young anymore. She’s already wasted five years of her life on this child. But the child is still young and needs to find its biological father. Similarly, Eileen Barton also needs to find someone to rely on in her life.
Eileen Barton listened to what was said, but she didn’t respond. She simply stared out the window in silence.
Seeing this, Emily Church realized she couldn’t get any more information out of him, so she stopped asking.
Didn’t Eileen Barton also want to find him? She knew full well that Teresa Barton’s father wasn’t Henry Warren, but rather the man who had spent a night with her five years earlier!
But I have no idea who he is at all. Not even a vague impression of his appearance remains in my mind. So, there’s no way I can even start trying to find him!
That night, she had been drunk by someone else. Coupled with the effects of the drugs, she was completely unable to control herself. Her consciousness was also very blurred. What happened after she woke up was too unbearable for her to face. So, for the time being, Eileen Barton didn’t think about it anymore.
Since Theresa Barton hadn’t fully recovered, Eileen Barton took time off from work to stay at home and take care of her.
Emily Church went to work early in the morning.
Theresa Barton has a weak stomach and can’t eat greasy food. Early in the morning, Eileen Barton got up to buy groceries, preparing to make porridge for Theresa Barton to eat. This will help nourish her stomach. At such a young age, it’s important not to let her stomach develop any chronic problems.
There was a clattering noise in the kitchen. Theresa Barton had light sleep and was immediately awakened by the noise.
Dragging her doll behind her, she walked into the kitchen and watched her mother busily working there.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Teresa Barton asked in a childish, endearingly silly voice.
As Eileen Barton turned around, she saw Teresa Barton: small in stature, with messy hair, and her pajamas still rolled up to her knees on one side.
Suddenly, Eileen Barton couldn’t help but laugh. “Teresa, how did you get up?”
Eileen Barton picked up Teresa Barton in her arms, thinking to herself, “Such a lovely girl—surely she’s my own daughter.”
“I dreamed that Mom was cooking something delicious for me. Then I woke up. Mom, what delicious food are you cooking?” Teresa Barton curiously peeked into the pot, from which steam was rising.
“It smells so good, Mommy. Teresa is hungry.” Teresa Barton patted her stomach to show that she was hungry.
Meanwhile, Teresa Barton’s little stomach made a gurgling sound.
“Look, my baby is starving!” Eileen Barton tickled Teresa Barton’s nose with her finger. Teresa Barton covered her face shyly, as her stomach was indeed making quite a loud noise.
Eileen Barton set Teresa Barton down. “Teresa, go brush your teeth and wash your face. We’ll eat in a moment!”
Theresa Barton nodded and went off to wash up, hopping along on her little legs.
Eileen Barton couldn’t help but feel relieved that her daughter had always been sensible since childhood, saving her a lot of worry. Things like taking care of daily household chores were things Teresa Barton could handle on her own, completely freeing Eileen from any concerns.
Before long, the health-promoting porridge was ready. Teresa Barton also came out of the bathroom, hopping along on her short legs.
“Mom, I’m done washing!”
“Then, let’s eat!”
As they spoke, the mother and daughter enjoyed their breakfast together happily.
Theresa Barton slurped noisily, finishing a bowl of porridge in one go.
“Mom, I want more!” she said, licking her lips at the same time.
“It seems like Teresa really likes drinking porridge!” Eileen Barton was naturally happy that her efforts had been well received by Teresa Barton.
“Mom’s cooking is the best!” Teresa Barton looked completely satisfied, her eyes filled with praise for her mother.
Eileen Barton poured another bowl of porridge in front of Teresa Barton, who couldn’t wait to start eating.
“Eat slowly!” Erin Barton warned.
“Dong dong dong.”
The mother and daughter were enjoying their meal when there was a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” Eileen Barton murmured softly as she got up to open the door.
Anyone who knows Emily Church knows that she’s not at home right now. Usually, people go to her company to find her. As for me, I’ve just returned to the country a few days ago. No one even knows I’m here, let alone where I live.
So Eileen Barton was very curious about who was knocking at the door.
But as soon as the door opened, Eileen Barton was stunned.
“Good morning!” Corey Bruce flashed a big smile, revealing his white teeth.
Once again, his face wore a solemn expression, as mysterious as ever.
Eileen Barton never expected that this man would actually come looking for her. But how did he know where she lived? It seemed like there wasn’t anything he didn’t know.
For several dozen seconds, Eileen Barton was completely stunned and unable to regain her senses.
“What? Surprised to see me? Or maybe you didn’t expect me to come?” Corey Bruce’s tone was still full of provocation, mockery, and even sarcasm.
Eileen Barton was abruptly pulled back to reality by Corey Bruce’s mocking tone. Corey Bruce’s manner of speaking was simply disgusting.
Eileen Barton tilted her chin slightly, her eyes darkening. “What do you mean?”
She had no idea what this man’s motives were. But since he kept violating her over and over again, she couldn’t tolerate it any longer.
This is the resilience that Eileen Barton has forged for herself after getting injured. She’s long since gotten used to this version of herself.
Corey Bruce was taken aback. Eileen Barton’s demeanor became even more imposing, seemingly colder as well, giving off a sense that made one want to run away.
“The literal meaning,” Corey Bruce said with disdain, stepping right past Eileen Barton to enter the house.
Theresa Barton drank her porridge carefully, paying no attention to what was happening outside. It wasn’t until she heard heavy footsteps that she turned around.
“Uncle Handsome!” When Teresa Barton saw Corey Bruce, her eyes lit up instantly. She hopped over with her short legs and climbed right onto Corey Bruce’s lap.
Eileen Barton could hardly believe it. After just meeting once, the two of them seemed to know each other for ages.
What exactly is it about Corey Bruce that makes Teresa Barton so infatuated with him?
“How did you get here? Uncle Cole, how did you know where my house is?” Teresa Barton asked three times in a row, blinking her big eyes at Corey Bruce.
