Chapter 1

  Nadia's POV

"I look better in the wedding dress. Your ugly fiancée can't compare to me, right?"

"Of course, you do, Daisy. You look way better," I heard a man respond, and I froze.

  That voice… I would recognize it anywhere…

It sounded so much like my fiancé.

Our wedding was coming up in a month, and I was in the bridal shop to try on my dress.

I was supposed to come with my fiancé for the fitting, but he would always say he was too busy to accompany me, so I would usually come alone. And today was no different.

I wasn't expecting to see two people having sex in a fitting room. Especially not when the man's voice was so familiar.

He held up a woman, her legs crossed behind his back as he pounded into her.

His face was turned away from me, but as soon as he tipped his head back, seemingly overwhelmed by pleasure, my suspicions were confirmed.

"Alexander…" I gasped, my voice barely above a whisper.

My legs nearly gave out, and I almost crashed into the tiled floor.

"I will make you remember me forever. I'll make sure you think of me even on your wedding day and anniversaries," the woman said before kissing him deeply.

Realization dawned on me as I watched the woman cling to him.

The frequent business trips. Always being busy with one thing or another at work. Urgent meetings. Ignoring my calls and texts for a stretch of days.

  So this was the reason.

  He was cheating on me.

Tears rolled down my cheeks, and I clamped my mouth shut with my hand as I forced my legs to take me away from there.

I had no control over my legs as I ran out of the bridal shop, heading straight to my car.

As soon as I was in the safety of my car, I broke down, tears streaming down my face. My entire body shook as I cried.

How could he just throw away all the years we had spent together?

We built a successful company within the seven years we had been together, one of the top companies in New York even.

But he threw it all away for another woman.

I didn't know how long I had cried for, but after some time, I cleaned my face, wiping away any trace that I had been crying.

I pushed the sadness and grief deep down, determined not to let it get to me as I drove out of the bridal shop's parking lot.

But no matter how much I tried not to think about it, the image kept flashing in my mind. And I couldn't help but question the choices I had made in the past seven years.

"And Helena warned me about him," I murmured to myself.

My chest ached as I remembered the day we had that dreadful conversation.

My sister had told me to cut all ties I had with Alexander, saying he wasn't a reliable man. But I didn't listen to her. I had been blinded by the love I had for him.

"I should have listened to her."

After driving for several minutes, I pulled over in my garage and went into the house. I climbed into bed immediately, not knowing what else to do.

Right at that moment, my phone lit up as a message came in. It was from my sister, Helena.

"If you decide to go ahead with your marriage to Alexander, no members of our family will be attending your wedding."

I sighed as I read the message. What a coincidence.

I bit my lip as I replied to her text: "I am not getting married anymore."

I left the message at that, not willing to go into further details.

Her response came in almost immediately, and I clutched the phone as my eyes glossed over the message.

"You gave up your previous engagement to be with Alexander, and I didn't say anything. You have just one month to return to London. Failure to return, and I will sever all ties with you."

I turned off the phone and flung it to the side, anger coursing through me as I registered what she said.

I was still on the bed, unmoving and feeling numb, when the bedroom door was pushed open. Alexander strolled in, a wide grin on his face as he approached me.

"Hey, babe!" he said enthusiastically. "How has your day been? Did you miss me?"

He got on the bed and bent his head as he tried to kiss me. I quickly turned my head, and his kiss landed on my cheek instead.

He had kissed another woman with those lips moments ago. And here he was, acting as if nothing happened.

I sat up and went to sit on the edge of the bed. "What's wrong, babe? You're not in a good mood…" he said as he crawled up beside me.

"Are you tired? Do you want a massage? You know I'm very good at easing your stress," he spoke teasingly as he put his hands on my shoulders.

"No, thank you," I murmured as I shrugged his hands off.

He went silent for a few seconds, then he chuckled. "Oh. You want something else, don't you?" His voice dropped, and before I could react, his hands gripped my hips, and his wet mouth latched onto my neck.

I froze when I realized what he was doing, and I jumped out of bed.

"Stop it! Do not do that!" I said, breathing heavily as I glared at him.

"What? Why? You like it when I do that," he responded, staring at me with confusion.

I steadied my breathing as I pinned him with my gaze. "You seem very busy lately. So much so that you haven't even been home for two days now."

"Well, yeah… I was busy with some important work—"

"If you're that busy, then just call off the wedding for now."
