Chapter 3 The guide
LOUISA
I stared at his full, wet lips for any trace of blood but the longer I stared at those kissable lips, the clearer it proved that I was hallucinating. There was no way someone as handsome and normal-looking as him wasn't human. No, he wasn't normal looking, not with that surreal face and that cold, dark aura around him.
“Are you done staring?” He suddenly spoke and my head jerked back to reality.
“Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I had seen you somewhere,” I lied and clasped my hand in his.
He suddenly tore his hand away, staring at me like I was some kind of evil as he took a step back.
I batted my lashes, questions rising in my mind.
“Are you okay?” I asked. He straightened, no emotion in his eyes and no trace of a changed reaction to determine what was wrong with him. He acted like a robot. A lifeless human being. Those kinds of creatures didn't exist.
“What lessons do you have now?” He asked as he turned for the stairs.
“Uhm…” I pulled out my timetable and scanned the paper.
“Biology,” I answered.
“Senior year?” He asked again and I nodded.
“We have the same class then,” he replied.
All the while he talked, he didn't turn back even for a second to look at me.
I stared at his straightened back, my eyes narrowing in curiosity. Silver hair, sharp blue eyes that could pierce any soul, perfect body sculpture, lips that looked like they would feel like fire, and a commanding presence that caused every student to bow to him when they walked by.
Why was he so perfect? So authoritative? So cold?
His teeth also looked perfect, his jaw sharp and his shoulders broad. His hands remained glued to his side as he walked and he never missed a step or changed his slow pace. It felt like he was living in perfection since he was perfect himself. His clothes looked royal with how prim and white they were. He didn't just wear anything, unlike me. I looked down at my clothes and my toes curled.
Rumpled t-shirt, faded jeans, and sneakers that looked like they hadn't been washed for years. Of course, they hadn't been washed for years.
I should have listened to my mom's rants yesterday and worn something better.
“Your school uniform will be delivered to you today,” he suddenly spoke, his calm voice breaking through my thoughts. I paused and looked at him to grasp his words. He didn't turn as always but he stopped walking too.
“Okay,” I replied and watched him raise his hands carefully like they would break if he did it recklessly. His head tilted to the side as he stared down at the Louis Vuitton watch strapped around his wrist.
“We have two minutes to get to class or we'll face probation. Walk faster,” he muttered and continued walking.
My brows raised in confusion and I almost scoffed. If anyone was walking like the time had paused, it was definitely him.
We continued our walk in silence, walking down corridors and halls. I smiled at students who bowed at him and received glares from them.
He paused in front of a classroom and glanced back to look at me before walking in. I rushed after him and just at that moment, the bell rang.
The classroom became silent as the students took their seats.
I stood frozen at the spot, my eyes darting around desperately for an empty desk, with anxiety rising at the number of eyes piercing at me.
“Take a seat, Miss!” A voice growled behind me and I jumped.
I spun around and met face to face with a bearded, hard-faced man clutching onto books. I needed no one to tell me that it was the teacher handling the course.
“Sorry, Sir,” I bowed and spun around, scurrying through the row of desks for a place to sit.
My eyes fell on an unoccupied desk beside the window and I moved towards the desk.
I could still feel the eyes of the students trailing after me and I could hear whispers too.
I sighed and slumped down into the seat then began to pull out my books, ready for another depressing moment of life.
The teacher moved to the board, muttering something about a project he had given them.
I took out a pen and flipped a notebook open. I stared at the blank page, sighing in frustration. I had a lot to catch up on since I didn't begin at the start of the term.
“That's my seat,” a deep voice came up beside me and my head raised.
I batted my lashes in confusion when I saw a guy standing beside me, his eyes narrowed in anger.
“I'm sorry,” I muttered and got up, packing up my books.
“Sit here,” a student waved his hand at another empty desk beside the one I was once sitting on.
I swallowed hard and flashed a smile at the nerd then headed over to the desk. I always loved to sit by the window. I guessed it wouldn't work out in this school.
I heard some girl snicker at him and some laughed.
The teacher growled for some silence and the room became quiet again.
I turned to my right and realized that my cold guide, Sabastian, was sitting there, and on my left was the agitated fellow I took his seat.
I sighed and flipped to the blank page again as the teacher began his lecture.
I could swear I saw my guide stare at my silver bracelet longer than necessary during the class and what confused me was how much hostility was in his eyes as he stared at it.
I kept thinking about the possibility of him not being human throughout the class.
I decided to find out for myself after the class ended.
I watched him as he got up and began to head to the door immediately after the teacher left after the bell rang.
I relaxed in my seat, waiting till some of the students in the class were gone before starting my investigation.
“Beautiful silver you got there,” someone muttered, and my gaze rose. My eyes fell on the face that was staring down at me in anger just before the class began.
His lips twitched into a smirk as he darted his eyes towards the silver bracelet I was wearing.
“It's a shame no one wears real silver these days,” he muttered and swerved around for the door.
I sat there, dumbfounded and confused. My chest tightened and my heartbeat slowed as I stood up and looked around the classroom.
Suddenly, nothing felt normal. No one felt human.
I slammed my eyes shut and bit my lips, sucking in a deep breath.
I was going to think twice about that decision to carry out an investigation on everyone and I would be starting with my seat partners. My eyes fell on the desk of Sabastian and I walked towards it. I dropped my bracelet on his desk then walked away to find my locker.
With the use of the map, I managed to find my locker and packed my books and materials in it.
I heard the bell ring for another class and I headed back to my classroom.
I paused at the door, staring at Sebastian as he walked to his seat. He paused when he saw the silver bracelet on the desk.
My heart raced as he scooped the bracelet in his hand. He suddenly threw it back on the desk, his face twisting in pain.
It wasn't what I was thinking was it?!
My jaw stopped, the world stopped and horror filled me as I saw the burn in his palm when he turned.
