Chapter 7 Search gone wrong

LOUISA

“Let's go quickly!” I snapped as I hastened my steps forward.

I could see the confusion that stained Ken's face from the corner of my eyes as I walked briskly.

My heart was racing like it would blow up and fear was eating up every part of me. It felt like I would drop dead if my feet stopped moving for a second.

“Hey, redhead!”

My feet suddenly stopped and my breath ceased. His dark, terrifying voice hit the hallway, forcing every noise to cease.

My hands were trembling in dismay and my feet suddenly felt paralyzed and stuck on the spot.

All eyes were on me. Piercing. Demanding the reason for the sudden notice from Damion Lucius.

Just when they thought they had enough of me being around Sebastian now I had to be stopped by Damion. His rival.

I took a deep breath, assuring myself that he wouldn't attack me in front of everyone. Or perhaps he could. If all of them were a bunch of vampires attending an academy built by a vampire.

“Get yourself together, Louisa, you can't be scared of these creatures,” I whispered a sort of encouragement to myself.

“Are you okay?” Ken whispered and I nodded, whispering a quivering ‘yes’.

“He's coming towards you,” he whispered again and my heart jumped violently into my throat.

I felt like puking at the spot but I knew that was quite the most embarrassing thing to do right now.

Ken leaned in again, the worry more obvious in his eyes this time.

“Do you need me to do something?” He whispered in a quivering voice.

My lips parted and slammed just as confusion mingled with the fear eating me up.

I finally shook my head when I couldn't get the words out.

I hoped he wasn't shouting out for me but realistically, I knew he was. I was the only redhead in the hall, and there was a valid reason to be called by him.

I stiffened when I felt his hand on my shoulder.

My heart drummed heavily in my ears as he leaned forward, pressing his body against mine from behind.

My throat knotted and I felt my belly tighten as his hot breath hit my neck.

“Did you leave this with me?” He whispered into my ear as he pulled his hand in front of me.

My heart gave a wild leap and my eyes widened in horror as I stared at his hand.

The bracelet was wrapped around his wrist and there was no sign of burns anywhere near the bracelet.

He wasn't a vampire. He was a human.

I sighed in relief and sucked my lips in.

He leaned in again, hitting my skin with his breath.

“You did this intentionally, didn't you?” He whispered.

I let out a ragged breath, trying to pull my body out of the paralysis it was in while I remained trapped in his arms.

“No… I… I dropped it,” I whispered.

His searching eyes narrowed over me in suspicion, and his face drew even closer like he was searching for something on my face.

My breath caught in my throat when I realized that our faces were just inches apart. Another jerk of his head forward would lead to something dismaying.

I couldn't breathe properly. It felt as if I did, our faces would meet. My heart had begun to race again, and my feet, which were suddenly freed from the paralysis, were shaking.

His dark eyes stared straight into me. It was burning my soul and I could feel it in me.

It felt like he was searching for the truth with his eyes. I could feel those dark orbs digging through my mind, piercing my heart, and killing my soul.

It was stopping my lungs from functioning and my heart from beating normally.

My lips parted, and I tried to let out a breath, but I couldn't. His hold and gaze were killing me, and as bad luck would have it, the students’ gazes were creating pores in my skin and making my situation more dreadful.

I could hear their murmurs and sneers. Their evil remarks and mocking laughter haunted my ears and my dissolved mind.

“Are you sure you're telling the truth, Miss Williams. I won't go easy with you if you have an evil intention here,” he whispered.

His voice was no longer assiduous and stained with a bit of darkness. It was now covered with darkness and terror.

The coldness in his voice made me shiver to the bones the way Sebastian's voice did.

“Let her go right now, Damion!” A similarly dark and horrifying voice pierced the hallway and silence descended on us.

The sinister smile that was beginning to appear at the corners of Damion's lips suddenly disappeared, and he frowned deeply.

“I'll keep this,” he whispered and pulled his hand away from me.

I stumbled back and almost tripped over the marble ground, but Ken caught me.

My breath finally returned and my body broke out of whatever killing spell he had it under with his eyes.

I glared at him, heaving in rage.

I wanted to part my lips and lash out at him for my bracelet but Ken grabbed my arm from behind, stopping me.

“Look!” He whispered.

I raised my gaze and my lips, which were curling into anger, slowly pressed together.

There, a few distances away from me, was Sebastian. His cold eyes were on me, and his expression, as always, was unreadable.

I gulped hard and looked down, pressing my lips together in embarrassment.

Sebastian began to trudge forward, his gaze shifting to Damion's face.

Damion smirked at me, pulling his hands into his pants pockets to hide the bracelet.

“This will be the last time you'll harass my student,” Sebastian blurted out.

My head jerked up and surprise welled up in me.

His student? I thought he never cared about me?!

“Student!” Damion threw his head back and laughed.

No one in the hallway dared to laugh with him. No one.

He paused and straightened up, grinning widely.

“Just because you're her guide doesn't give you the right to interfere,” Damion spat.

Sebastian didn't say a word for straight two minutes. I didn't know if he was searching for the right words or just tired of speaking.

He didn't look like someone who gave a damn about the life of someone else. Why would he when he takes the lives of other people?

Sebastian suddenly turned to look at me and my heart skipped a beat. I took a step back, a sickening feeling spreading over my belly.

I stiffened in shock and horror as he grabbed my hand. Shivers washed down my spine when his cold hand wrapped around mine.

He turned to look at Damion, his gaze hardening.

What was he up to now?

The air in the hallway was suddenly gone, and no matter how hard I tried, I still couldn't breathe properly.

“I am not just her guide, I'm her guardian, which means, it is my duty to watch her and interfere in her matters if need be,” he muttered calmly.

My jaw dropped in shock and my blood ran cold. There was no way I thought he would make a comeback that way.

My lips parted and slammed shut in confusion but when Damion's eyes flickered in my direction, I hid quietly behind Sebastian.

The bell finally rang and everyone turned around for their classes, leaving me with the two of them.

Damion chuckled and threw his shoulders back, that smirk on his face.

“I'll see you later, redhead,” he piped before trudging off to his next class.

Sebastian turned to look at me after he was gone. His eyes narrowed at me.

“You should go to class,” he muttered and patted my shoulder before drawing away from me.

I sucked in a deep breath and forced a smile at him before turning around and heading for my class.

I was sure I saw his eyes snap into different colors when I craned my neck to look at him again.

This was my first time in the Academy and I had gathered this much attention to myself. All this unwanted attention just because I was searching for vampires.

But I wouldn't give up. In a few days, I would gather even more attention from my family and this town… for killing one.
