Chapter 119

Carols POV

I created a healing potion and it actually worked!!

I couldn’t wait to tell Aiden about this. He was going to be so proud of me.

“Well done, Carol,” King Bennet proudly stated. “This potion was exceptional. However, you must be careful with this gift. It’s dangerous. With every gift comes great responsibility.”

I nodded, understanding what he was saying. He mentioned earlier that I could make curses as well and I knew there were dangerous types of potions. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt anyone though, so I pushed the thought to the back of my mind.

“What about the gift of prophecy?” I asked, meeting his eyes. I wanted to ask him about the vision I had, but I wasn’t sure how to bring it up. Instead, I asked, “How do I know if I’m having a vision?”

His brows rose.

“You’ll know once it happens,” he tells me. “If you have to question it, then it’s most likely a vision. There are different types of prophecy though. Some are control and some aren’t.”

“Some aren’t control?” I asked in wonder.

He shook his head.

“Some are controlled by the Moon Goddess. If she feels you need to see something important, then you’ll have a vision. Those usually come in the form of a dream. They are longer than controlled visions and you can usually move around the vision of your own free will to gather needed information. Such as dates and times. Sometimes during these visions, if you ask a question, the Moon Goddess will answer in her own way.”

“What about the vision you can control?” I asked him.

“Like your telekinesis, it takes concentration. It’s easier if you look directly into their eyes, but sometimes touch can trigger a vision as well. If it’s something the Moon Goddess herself wants to see, it’ll be easier to trigger it by touch alone. I have visions of the past, whether they are recent or not so recent. It all depends on significance and what I’m looking for directly. For example, when Morgan returned to the palace and claimed that you were dead. I wanted to see if what she was saying was true. So, I looked into her eyes and searched her recent memories of those events. I thought heavily about you as well and searched her mind.”

“And your abilities don’t allow you to look into the future?”

He shook his head.

“No, but there are some witches who can look only into the future and not the past. Some can look into both,” he answered. “Those with the gift of prophecy also have strong intuition. We can often tell if someone is lying.”

I was quiet for a moment as I thought about the vision I had earlier. There was no doubt in my mind that it was a vision. My heart hammered against my chest.

I wondered what it meant.

“Are all visions bad?” I asked, meeting his eyes.

He furrowed his brows together as he studied my face.

“Not particularly,” he answered. “Why do you ask? Did you already have a vision?”

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“I’m not sure,” I told him, biting my lower lip. I wasn’t sure how much I should say.

“You aren’t sure?” He repeated, his brows pinched together. “As I said, if you have to question it, then it was most likely a dream.”

I nodded, feeling a heaviness in the pit of my stomach.

“I might have had a vision. But I’m not sure what it meant,” I admitted.

Tell me about it.

I thought about telling him all about the dream; something inside of me was telling me to trust him. As insane as it sounded, I think I did trust him. But not enough with this kind of information. It could get people in serious trouble, and I didn’t want to snitch on people I barely knew.

I lowered my gaze.

“I think I should keep it to myself for right now,” I told him.

“If you had a vision, I need to know about it, Carol. It could be dangerous to hold important information from me in my own Kingdom. It could be dangerous for the entire empire,” he told me firmly, folding his arms across his chest.

“It’s not,” I blurted. “It was a stupid vision that’s all,” I told him. “It had nothing to do with you or the empire.”

At least, I don’t think it did.

He stared at me for a moment longer and once he realized I wasn’t going to say anything more, he sighed and nodded.

“Okay. But if you do have a vision concerning the empire, you must tell me right away,” he ordered.

I nodded in agreement.

“I will,” I assured him.

The door to the gym opened, averting our attention. Beta Luca stood at the doorway.

“Sorry to interrupt, but your meeting is here,” Luca told the King.

King Bennet glanced at his watch and sighed.

“I lost track of time. Tell them I’ll be there in a few minutes. I just need to change,” King Bennet said.

Beta Luca nodded and then retreated from the room. The King turned back to me.

“Sorry to cut training short, Carol,” he said, giving me a small smile. “I do hope we can continue later on.”

I nodded.

“I’d like that,” I told him, which was the truth. I wanted to learn more about my powers and figure out how to make them stronger. I needed to make them stronger.

After saying goodbye to the king, I watched him leave the gym.

I stayed behind for a little longer; sitting on the workout bench while flipping through the potions book which is essentially a magical chemistry book. After a little while I heard a voice at the entrance of the gym.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

I jumped at the sound of Jenna’s voice.

“I was just studying,” I told her. “I was practicing my magic.”

“This is my spot,” she said, folding her arms across her chest.

I noticed she was wearing a red sports bra and black yoga pants. Her hair was in a long and neat ponytail down her back and her lip was curled up in disgust as she glared at me.

“I don’t know what kind of shit you are trying to pull, but it isn’t going to work here. I’m the one taking over the throne. I’m the one who is going to be the high priestess. You are nothing and you’ll always be nothing. So why don’t you just leave?” Jenna growled, her eyes glowing with fury.

I took an unsteady step back; I was unsure of what she could do, and I didn’t want to take any chances.

“I don’t know what our problem is with me, but I didn’t do anything to you,” I told her, proud that my voice came out stronger than I felt.

She scoffed at my words.

“Did nothing to me?” She mocked. “You showed up here out of the blue, claiming to be the King’s daughter and you think that doesn’t affect me? I’m the one who’s supposed to take the throne and be the queen. Now that you’re here, it jeopardizes everything I’ve worked for.”

I raised my brows at her.

“You can have the throne, Jenna. I don’t want it. I just want to learn my powers and move on with my life. I’m not a threat to you,” I assured her, narrowing my eyes.

She laughed, but it was bitter and filled with indifference.

“I’m not stupid,” she scoffed. “And plus, that’s not how this works. If the king wants you to take the throne, then you won’t have a choice.”

I blanched at her words.

“I don’t understand. What do you mean I don’t have a choice?” I asked her, not sure I heard her correctly.

“Exactly what I said. Around here, what he says is the law. The only way for you to back out of it is death,” she stepped closer to me, and her eyes flashed with something dangerous, and I felt a chill creeping up my spine.

“Death?” I asked, my voice coming out breathy. “You want to kill me?”

I wondered for a moment if Jenna had something to do with the elevator mishap, but then I thought she wouldn’t do something as stupid as that. She would be caught and then punished for a crime against the King’s daughter…

Wouldn’t she?

Before I knew what was happening, she was grabbing my hair and yanking it. I hissed in pain as I struggled to remain on my feet.

“Let me go!” I ordered, trying to break free of her grip.

“Not a chance,” she said, slapping my face.

My heart was hammering; I had never been in a fight before, but it didn’t look like I had a choice now. I grabbed at her, trying to get her to release me, but she was fast and strong. She certainly spent a lot of time working out.

“Jenna Rose Amyrran, what on earth are you doing?!” A loud voice boomed from the entrance, making us both freeze.

When we turned, I sucked in a sharp breath to see Queen Elizabeth standing on the other side of the door.
