Chapter 165

Aiden’s POV

The last thing I wanted was for Carol to leave because Katrina demanded it. She folded her arms across her chest and pressed her lips in a thin line as she glared at my wife. I didn’t like it one bit and I was about to put her in her place, but Carol shot me a look, no doubt hearing my thoughts and exactly how I felt about Katrina bursting into my office unannounced.

“It’s okay,” Carol said through our mindlink. “I’ll leave, but I’ll be back in a little bit. I’m going to the dining hall for lunch.”

I pressed my lips together, not wanting her to leave but Carol gave me a small smile before kissing my cheek gently.

I relented and sighed.

After a minute, Carol was walking past Katrina who gave her a nasty look. Carol pretended she didn’t notice though and closed the door behind her. I’m not sure how I got so lucky to get a mate like Carol, but I was grateful every day that the Moon Goddess chose her for me. I turned to face Katrina who was watching me with her arms still folded across her chest.

“You better have an actual reason for interrupting me,” I said, sitting back at my desk. The thought of Carol on my desk with her legs spread and on display for me invaded my mind. The taste of her was still on my tongue and I wanted to find her and taste her again.

Goddess, I was hooked on this woman.

An image of her naked flashed through my mind and this time, I knew it was Carol who manipulated the image in my mind. I smirked and sent her an image of me naked as well. I could only imagine the blush on her cheeks as she walked through the dining hall. I had to bite back a smile.

“I don’t mean to seem rude, but the Luna responsibilities are lacking, and we aren’t in good shape. Our she-wolves have gotten lazy since the former Luna stepped down. We have 3 pregnant women one of which is a single woman with 2 kids already and she’s not in good shape.”

“Why is this just being brought to my attention?” I asked through my teeth. “As the Alpha, I should be aware of all of these issues.”

She rolled her eyes.

“Because it’s not your job—”

“Everything in this pack is my job, Katrina,” I nearly shouted, standing to my feet in a deadly manner.

She didn’t even flinch; she just narrowed her eyes and shook her head.

“Then what good is having a Luna if she’s not going to do anything?” She asked in a growl. “This should be Carol’s responsibility, and she hasn’t done anything.”

“She’s only been a Luna for a couple of days, and it's been hectic,” I argued.

“You are so blinded by your pussy that you don’t see that she’s not a good fit—”

I slammed my fists on my desk, stopping her from continuing.

“I won’t tolerate that disrespect towards my wife, Katrina. I already told you what would happen,” I growled, my Alpha power washing over her and forcing her to bow her head in submission.

“I mean no disrespect, Alpha,” she said through gritted teeth. “But the pack doesn’t just need an Alpha… it needs a Luna too. The women need a Luna.”

I knew she was right, and that Carol needed to take on the position sooner than later. She has no training in this kind of thing though I didn’t want to throw her in the middle of the fire. I wondered briefly if my mother would work with her.

“I will deal with pack matters, Katrina,” I said, leaning back in my seat. “It’s not your concern but I appreciate you for bringing some of the issues to my attention. Send me a list of the she-wolves I need in the order of most urgent to least.”

She stared at me for a moment, like she wanted to say something else, but then she chose against it. Smart choice.

“Yes, Alpha,” she said, stepping away from my desk. “I’ll do that right away.”

She started to walk towards the doorway but froze.

“Aiden…” she said, her voice soft, making me look up at her with a frown. “If Carol wasn’t around… like if you hadn’t met her. Would I be your Luna?”

A low growl emerged from my throat; my wolf didn’t like the thought of Carol not being around and neither of us was sure what Katrina was getting at. She turned to face me, and I could almost see the vulnerability in her eyes. It reminded me of when we were younger. Truth be told, there was a time when I thought Katrina would be my Luna. There was a time that I cared for her deeply and it’s because of those memories that I allowed her to remain in my pack even after all she had done.

“I can’t answer that,” I finally settled on, meeting her eyes.

She nodded and turned away.

“Okay,” she breathed before leaving the office.

I sighed and rubbed my temple with my fingers. I pressed the button on my receptionist's desk.

“Can you call my mother and have her come to my office? I need to speak with her about an urgent matter.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

I could mindlink her, but mindlinking pack members draw powers from all the packmates so I only use it in case of emergencies and/or during battles. The only acceptance of that rule is when mates mindlink their mates because that power is infinite when one is marked to another.

It only took about 15 minutes before my mother walked into my office.

“Everything okay?” She asked, raising her brows.

“Yeah, Mom. I need a favor, and I need you to say yes.”

….

Carol’s POV

“The dining hall here is huge,” Fiona said, her eyes wide as she spun around in the large open space.

I forgot that Fiona really hadn’t seen much of the pack, let alone the packhouse.

I smiled and nodded.

“Yeah, and the food is delicious as well,” I told her. The packhouse was pretty much a luxurious hotel with office space. It was gorgeous I have to admit, and when I first saw it, I was definitely overwhelmed. I understood how she was feeling.

“It’s hard to believe that I’m going to be living in the city,” she breathed, meeting my eyes. “Will I ever get used to it?”

I wrapped my arm through hers and pulled her close.

“You will,” I assured her. “Because I’m going to be by your side the entire time. As will Oliver.”

Oliver was getting us some food while Fiona and I talked and found a table for us to sit and eat.

“Now, we have all the time in the world to get used to things,” I told her.

“How are you feeling by the way? Have you thrown up anymore since the other day?”

I shook my head and bit my lower lip.

“No,” I answered. “And thank goodness for that. I hate throwing up. Though, I’ve been feeling a little off lately. But I think it’s just a bug.”

“Have you seen a doctor?” She asked, concern evident in her voice.

I shook my head.

“It’s not a big deal. I don’t need a doctor.” I assured her. “I’ll be fine. I promise.”

She didn’t look certain, but before she could say anything, Oliver returned with our food.

“Thanks,” I said as he placed it in front of me. He frowned at my choice of food, a burger with peanut butter.

“They looked at me like I was insane when I requested that,” he told me. “It’s pretty gross honestly.”

I shrugged.

“I’ve been craving this all day,” I admitted as I took a big bite.

Fiona chuckled and Oliver shook his head as he took a bite of his own burger.

My mind kept returning to Aiden and the fact that he was having a conversation with Katrina. I didn’t like leaving him alone with her, but he was my husband, and I trusted him completely. Plus, if I wanted to, I could tap into his mind and hear everything, but I wanted to give him his privacy.

“That was a quick meeting,” Oliver said, looking past me.

I turned to see Katrina storming away, she looked furious and hurt at the same time. I wondered what transpired. She paused when she saw me staring at her and she flipped her hair over her shoulder and continued to walk away.

I furrowed my brows and turned back to Oliver.

“Did she look sad?” I asked.

Olver shrugged.

“It’s always something with her,” he muttered.

We all nodded in agreement as we continued eating. About 20 minutes later, as we sat in the dining hall and talked about the days ahead, I heard a voice from behind me.

“Oh, there you are, Carol.”

I froze at the sound of the familiar voice and slowly turned to see Aiden’s mother standing before me.

“Mrs. Cruz,” I said, quickly standing to my feet. “Were you looking for me?”

“Yes,” she answered. “I just spoke to my son, and we came up with an agreement.”

I raised my brows; Aiden hadn’t warned me about this, and I didn’t like being blindsided.

“What kind of agreement?” I hesitantly asked.

“It’s time that you start training to be a Luna of this pack,” she said with a sly smile. “And I’m going to teach you.”

My mouth nearly dropped open.

“You are?” I asked in disbelief.

“I am,” she confirmed. “Which means, we are going to spend a lot of time together in the upcoming weeks.”
