Chapter 207

Aiden’s POV

“Welcome back to the Capitol Alpha Aiden,” one of the King’s warriors said as he bowed in respect the second I got off the plane.

I didn’t have the patience for casualties; my main focus was to get to the manor and see my mate. I had a nasty feeling that something was wrong, and I was itching to see her more than anything right now.

“The King apologizes for not being here himself to greet you as his personal guests. He had some business to take care of before his training session with Miss Carol.”

I didn’t really care if the King was here or not. I glanced at Oliver as if pleading with him to get this moving along faster. He seemed to have understood my eyes because he gave a curt nod before addressing the warrior.

“How about we get moving; my Alpha is very tired after the long flight and he’s eager to see his mate,” Oliver suggested.

The warrior nodded and motioned for the waiting car. Oliver took Fiona’s hand while another warrior grabbed our belongings off the plane. Soon, we were piled into the car and our things were shoved into the trunk.

It didn’t take us long to reach the King’s manor and the closer we got, the more anxious I started to grow. My wolf was practically itching to break free from me and go searching for his mate. He could sense that something was wrong too.

“What’s wrong?” Oliver asked from beside me in the car.

“I feel like something is wrong,” I said under my breath.

“Is it Carol?” Fiona asked, peeking around her mate to look at me; her eyes were filled with worry.

I didn’t want to worry her too much, so I forced a small smile in her direction.

“I’m sure I’m just overreacting,” I told her. “I’m not used to this much distance between us. I’ll feel better once I see her.”

She didn’t look like she bought that, but she didn’t argue. Oliver wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to his side. I couldn’t wait to be able to do that with my mate again. I needed to have her in my arms and to inhale her scent, so I knew with certainty that she was truly okay.

As soon as the car pulled to a stop in front of the manor, I was out of the vehicle like it was on fire. Oliver and Fiona were right behind me as the warriors grabbed our belongings. The doors opened and the butler greeted us with a polite smile and a bow.

“Alpha Aiden,” he greeted. “It’s good to see you.”

I nodded at him. The second I stepped inside the manor; I could smell it. Or rather, I could smell her…

I knew something was wrong and now that I could smell her, my stomach twisted in disgust and pure panic. How was it possible? She wasn’t even a full wolf… she had wolf’s blood because of her father, but she didn’t have a wolf herself.

There’s no reason she should have gone into heat like this. But I could smell it all around the manor. Because I was her mate, I could smell it more than anyone else in the manor so most probably didn’t notice it. But the thought of my mate being in heat and me not being there to help her caused my wolf to grow agitated and it took everything I had to keep him under control and not shift in front of everybody.

“Alpha, this is the maid that was assigned to help Miss Carol,” the butler introduced.

I turned to see a young girl standing before me. I hadn’t noticed her there a moment ago, but my mind was still clouded with the scent of my mate going into heat and fighting my wolf for control.

“Hello, Alpha,” the maid said with a bow. “My name is Alice.”

A loud growl escaped my lips before I could stop it and she flinched, nearly cowering away. The butler frowned and glanced at Oliver as if asking him what was wrong with me. Oliver narrowed his eyes at me, also silently asking me the same question.

“What’s going on with you?” Oliver asked.

“She’s in a heat,” I said in a low growl, still trying to keep control of my wolf and myself.

“What?” Oliver asked, confused.

“Carol is in heat,” I said through my teeth.

“How is that possible?” Oliver asked. “She’s not a full wolf.”

“Is she in danger?” Fiona asked.

I glared at the maid who was shaking in her place; her body visibly trembling as she stared amongst us.

“Where is she?” I asked.

I could definitely find her on my own if I wanted to, but I would tear this entire manor apart if I were to wander around here by myself.

“She’s in her suite,” Alice stammered. “I’ll take you to her.”

I nodded, my body stiff as I walked behind Alice and up the grand staircase. When we reached the second floor, we walked down a long hallway and around the corner where it opened up to many different doors. These had to be the suites that Alice was talking about downstairs.

The last door on the left was the one that Alice stopped in front of. She knocked politely and waited to go ahead, but when I got a strong whiff of Carol in heat and another unfamiliar scent, my wolf roared in my head.

There was a man in her room. I shoved past Alice, nearly knocking her over in the process. I’ll apologize to her later, but right now, I needed to get to my mate. I burst through the door and immediately started to see red. There was a man on top of her, tearing at her clothing and licking her neck as if he owned her as if she belonged to him.

He was greasy and it was clear to me at first sight that he was a rogue; I didn’t need to smell him to know that he was a rogue. He was wearing some kind of cologne that masked the scent of a rogue, but with my strong Alpha nose, I could smell it easily.

I growled loudly, shaking the room in the process. Alice had to hang onto the doorframe to keep her on her feet. I ran at the man before he even had the chance to turn around to see me and I grabbed him by the neck, ripping him off Carol.

She had a tear on her cheek and her entire body was trembling. I could smell her fear and something else, but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I didn’t analyze her for long because I had to deal with the asshole on top of her, but I could already tell by the mere seconds I was in this room that she couldn’t move her body; she didn’t even seem as if she was all there.

I punched the rogue in the face, and I didn’t stop until his face was unrecognizable. I heard Alice screaming from the doorway, terror evident in her voice.

“Carol?!” Fiona shrieked as she too ran into the room.

Oliver was by my side in seconds along with a couple of the King’s warriors.

“How did this rogue get in here?” Oliver demanded, glaring at them with hatred in his eyes. I was too focused on beating this motherfucker to really pay attention to anything else going on around me, but I knew Oliver would take care of everything else.

“I’ll look into it and alert the king,” one of the warriors said, sounding panicked. Another warrior grabbed the rogue off the ground while I struggled to keep control of my wolf. He wanted more blood on his paws; he wanted to see that rogue dead, but I held him back knowing if I killed on the King’s territory, even if it was just a rogue, I could come off as disrespectful and start an unnecessary war.

Oliver grabbed my arm and attempted to pull me back into reality.

“Carol,” he said firmly. “You need to go to your mate. I’ll make sure the rest of the manor is safe and get rid of this rogue. Just get to your mate.”

Carol… I needed to get to Carol. The fight was soon leaving me, and my wolf was finally submitting. He knew he needed to give me back control if we wanted our mate to be okay.

“Oh, and keep an eye on my mate too,” Oliver said before he followed the warrior who was carrying a very beaten rogue out of the room.

I turned and saw Fiona crying over Carol and Alice shakily watching them, her eyes wide and her lip trembling.

I ran to Carol’s side and saw that her eyes were fluttering unevenly; like she was trying to keep herself awake, though she wanted to sleep. I touched my finger to her cheek and hissed when I felt how hot she was.

“What the hell happened to her?” I asked through my teeth.

Alice grabbed the cup that was on the coffee table and stared at her; her face paling as she lifted her gaze to meet mine.

“Sir…” she said in a low and trembling tone. “I… I think she was drugged.”
