On the screen, Dione picked Nugget up out of the straw and folded her into her arms, against her chest, the way you hold a newborn. The camera's sound was thin, but the coop was quiet, and her voice came through.

"Celeste. My baby. It's you. It's you, it's you."

She rocked. The hen let her.
