Julian dropped everything and came home.

He walked through the door and found Mom and Dad on the couch looking like they'd aged a decade overnight. Celia sat beside them, eyes swollen, nose pink.

She spoke first. "Julian, you're finally here… Avery was killed… they haven't caught who did it…"
