Chapter 14 Street thugs
The driving experience of the car was absolutely top-notch.
Jay couldn’t quite get enough of the smooth handling, the raw power of the engine, and the luxurious interior—everything about the Lamborghini Urus still felt surreal to him.
He could already feel himself slowly getting addicted to this kind of lifestyle.
“What an amazing car,” Jay muttered under his breath, with a rare hint of satisfaction in his voice as his fingers rested lightly on the steering wheel.
Not long after, he finally pulled into the rundown neighborhood where his old apartment building stood.
The moment the black Lamborghini Urus rolled into the street, the entire atmosphere of the neighborhood changed instantly, drawing attention from every direction.
People standing by roadside shops froze mid-conversation. Children who had been playing in the dusty open spaces stopped mid-game just to steal a glance at the approaching vehicle.
Even a few men seated outside small kiosks rose slowly to their feet, with their eyes narrowing as they tried to confirm what they were seeing.
Every gaze in the neighborhood locked onto the luxury car—and more importantly, curious of who was inside it.
In a place like this, such a sight wasn’t just rare. It was almost unheard of.
A vehicle like the Lamborghini Urus could easily be worth more than several buildings in the entire area combined, making its presence here feel almost surreal.
Jay calmly turned the engine off before stepping out of the vehicle.
The moment he did, the whispers around the neighborhood intensified almost immediately.
“Who’s that?”
“Isn’t that Jay?”
“No way…”
“Since when did he become rich?”
Jay could hear fragments of the shocked murmurs from the nearby neighbors who clearly recognized him, but he ignored them completely.
Their confusion, disbelief, and curiosity didn’t matter to him right now.
He simply locked the Lamborghini and started walking toward the apartment building entrance without slowing his pace.
His expression remained calm, almost indifferent, as if the sudden attention meant nothing.
He honestly had no intention of staying here longer than necessary.
A car like that would definitely attract the wrong kind of attention in this neighborhood, especially from the local street boys who spent most of their time hanging around outside looking for opportunities to cause trouble.
Jay climbed the stairs, his footsteps echoing softly through the narrow, worn-out corridor of the building.
By the time he reached his apartment door, the familiar sight of it felt strangely different.
He stood there in silence for a brief moment, staring at it before slowly pushing the door open and stepping inside for what he knew would be the last time. Because he would never be coming back here again.
He honestly didn't have much worth taking. Most of the items in the apartment were old, cheap, or completely worn out after years of use.
In the end, he packed only the essentials—a few personal documents, his phone charger, and the best clothes he owned. That was about it.
Truthfully, he was already planning to go shopping tomorrow anyway. So there was no point dragging along a bunch of old worn-out clothes now that he could afford an entirely new wardrobe.
A few minutes later, Jay finally finished packing everything into a small travel bag he had lying around the apartment.
But just as he was about to zip the bag closed he suddenly heard loud noises coming from outside the building.
At first, he genuinely thought of ignoring it. But then the sounds grew louder into excited voices, laughter and even whistling.
It sounded like some kind of commotion was happening downstairs.
Curious, Jay slowly walked toward the window to check what was going on. But the very moment he looked down outside, his entire expression instantly darkened.
He saw six or seven local street boys gathered around his newly purchased Lamborghini.
Some were excitedly taking pictures with their phones, while others laughed among themselves. One of them had even gone as far as climbing onto the hood of the Lamborghini, casually sitting there with a cigarette dangling from his lips as though the car belonged to him.
"Yo, this thing's worth thousands," one of them muttered excitedly as he ran his filthy fingers along the side of the vehicle.
Then, suddenly...
SKRRRRT.
The boy deliberately dragged the metal ring on his finger across the Lamborghini's side panel, leaving behind a long, faint scratch.
The instant Jay saw it, a violent wave of fury exploded inside him making his jaw clenched so tightly it almost hurt.
“That motherfucker…” Jay muttered darkly.
The Lamborghini wasn’t even an hour old yet and now some random idiots were already damaging it.
One of the thugs, who looked strangely familiar, suddenly glanced up at the apartment building and spotted Jay standing by the window.
"Wait..."
He squinted for a better look before suddenly pointing upward.
"I know that loser!" he shouted. "No way... this is where he lives!"
The others immediately followed his finger toward the window. The moment they spotted Jay, several of them recognized him, and one thug burst into loud laughter.
"No freaking way!" he wheezed. "Isn't that the waiter guy? What a coincidence!"
The group erupted into even louder laughter.
Hearing the mockery from outside, Jay remained silent for a few moments before calmly stepping away from the window.
By the time he grabbed his travel bag from the bed, his expression had turned completely cold. Slinging it over one shoulder, he headed straight downstairs.
A few moments later, the apartment building's entrance doors opened, and Jay stepped outside with the bag resting casually over his shoulder.
The moment the street boys noticed him approaching, the atmosphere instantly became intentionally louder.
“Ayo!” one of them shouted mockingly. “Look who finally came out!”
Meanwhile, the guy sitting on the hood of his Lamborghini urus made absolutely no effort to move.
Instead, he slowly exhaled cigarette smoke from his mouth into the air while staring directly at Jay provocatively.
Jay stopped a few feet away from them before speaking in a calm, icy voice.
“Move away from the car.”
His voice wasn't loud, but it carried enough authority for everyone to hear him clearly.
For a brief moment, the thugs fell into subtle silence before bursting into loud laughter once again.
“Hahahahaaa...”
“No way he just said that!”
“Look at this dude!”
"Is he seriously trying to say this car belongs to him?"
"Yeah, right. Bro couldn't even afford the tires, let alone the whole car."
“Or maybe the fool started doing fraud!”
Hahahaha....
Jay’s expression remained completely emotionless despite the insults flying at him from every direction.
“I won’t repeat myself,” he said coldly. “Get your stupid asses away from my damn car.”
The moment those words left his mouth, the laughter abruptly died allowing a wave of tense silence to settle over the area.
A second later, one of the bigger men slowly stepped forward from the group.
Jay recognized him instantly.
He was known around the area as Bigboy, the one leading the group of thugs.
The man was built like a walking tank—broad shoulders, thick arms covered in faded tattoos, and a heavy silver chain hanging around his neck. His dark eyes locked onto Jay with open hostility as he slowly cracked his knuckles.
In fact, the only reason Jay was even able to recognize Bigboy was because the bastard used to bully him alongside the others whenever he returned home late from work.
There were countless nights when Jay had been cornered, mocked, shoved around, or forced to hand over the little cash he had left after exhausting shifts. Back then, he had always kept his head down and endured it silently because he simply had no power to fight back.
Over time, he had even memorized different shortcuts and alternate routes just to avoid running into them. But despite all that, they still occasionally crossed paths.
Bigboy walked closer while looking Jay up and down mockingly.
“You?” he scoffed before letting out a cold laugh. “This is your car?”
He kept strolling forward with an arrogant swagger until only a few feet separated them.
"Quit lying before I slap the hell out of you."
The others immediately burst into laughter again.
"This loser is as broke as he looks!" Bigboy shouted, loud enough for the nearby residents to hear. "There's no way he could afford a car like this. He definitely stole it!"
The commotion quickly drew attention. More residents began gathering around the apartment building, slowing to watch the unfolding drama. Some whispered among themselves, casting suspicious glances at Jay and his newly purchased Lamborghini.
But just then, another familiar voice suddenly interrupted the scene.
“What’s going on here?”
Everyone turned slightly after hearing the voice and spotted Mrs. Clay walking toward them from the apartment building entrance.
“Mr. Jay…” she said surprisingly politely. “Is there a problem?”
Jay immediately noticed the sudden change in her attitude. Just this morning, she was threatening to throw him out like garbage if he doesn't pay his rent, and now she was suddenly referring to him as “Mr. Jay.”
That alone told him everything.
There was no doubt she hadn't seen him stepping out of the Lamborghini when he first arrived, meaning she already knew exactly what was happening and was just putting on an act.
Bigboy frowned slightly before glancing between the two of them.
“You know this guy?” he asked.
“Of course I know him,” Mrs. Clay replied quickly. “He’s one of my tenants, and I own this building.”
Naturally, the thugs were familiar with Mrs. Clay. Like many landlords in the neighborhood, she occasionally paid them money every month to keep trouble away from her property.
Bigboy clicked his tongue before casually dragging a finger across the small scratch visible on the side of the Lamborghini.
“If this is really your car,” he said with a mocking smirk, “then settle the neighborhood first.”
The others immediately laughed behind him in support.
“Yeah!”
“You can’t come back here flexing without dropping something for the boys.”
“Rich people tax!” another thug shouted while laughing loudly.
Jay’s gaze slowly shifted toward the scratch on the vehicle as the irritation inside him deepened even further.
One of the thugs standing near the car quietly lifted his shirt just enough for Jay to notice the handle of a knife tucked beneath it, clearly trying to intimidate him.
Mrs. Clay immediately noticed it too and instinctively took a nervous step backward.
But unlike her, Jay remained completely calm without even the slightest flicker of fear on his face. Instead, he let his gaze travel slowly across every one of them.
“You have ten seconds to move away from my car,” he said emotionlessly.
For a brief moment, even Bigboy seemed caught off guard.
Not because of the words themselves… but because of the complete absence of fear behind them.
Then, suddenly, the faint wail of police sirens echoed in the distance.
The thugs immediately turned toward the road. Their arrogant laughter vanished almost instantly, replaced by uneasiness and growing tension.
"Wait..." one of them muttered, his expression tightening as the color drained from his face. "Who the fuck called the cops?"
