Chapter 120

Tessa’s POV

I stared at Anna blankly, not expecting such a question from her. I must admit that I really liked it here. Despite the blood of slaves and the hostile vampires and humans that kept watching me, I felt oddly safe being around them.

The Elders made me feel very welcome and very safe, especially Anna. But I hadn’t thought about staying here forever. I mean, I suppose the point of me being here was to see if I could handle this type of lifestyle and I think I’m handling it well. But I’m not sure how I would be able to live amongst them and not be immortal.

Would Joseph make me a blood slave? Is that something I would want?

Or would he make me into a vampire? I could die if he did that and I’m also not sure if that’s something I would want.

But every day I’m with Joseph, I fall for him a little bit more. I wanted to be with him for as long as I could, and I didn’t want to lose him after this semester. The end of the semester was approaching quickly. It was already spring, and the thought of not seeing him anymore hurt my heart more than I could explain.

I looked over at him and he was staring at Anna with an expression I couldn’t read.

“We aren’t discussing this right now,” he finally said, his voice hard. “Tessa’s only been here for a few days. Let her enjoy the rest of her stay.”

Did Joseph want me to stay forever? Is he hoping that’s what I choose?”

I wanted to ask him, but the question failed to leave my lips.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “It’s just not often I get to talk to another female. If you haven’t noticed, it’s a very male-dominated village. Of course, there are other female vampires here, but I feel they are a bit intimidated by me. Being both the prophet and the wife of the Eldest has its downfalls. But you don’t treat me like either and I appreciate that.”

I couldn’t help but smile at her kind words.

“I really appreciate your kindness,” I said gently. “I honestly wasn’t expecting anyone to be kind to be coming here, so I’m glad I got to meet you, Anna.”

“The sun will be up in a couple of hours. We should probably get back to the village,” Joseph said as he took the last sip of his coffee.

We all stood in agreement.

“Thank you both for coming with me,” she said kindly. “Bernard hates when I come here alone despite him knowing that I can handle my own. I didn’t want to bother anyone else knowing they were busy today, but I figured Tessa would want to explore the city a bit.”

“I was going to come here with Carter, but I’m glad I got to come here with you both,” I told them. “This was truly amazing.”

“We’ll have to come back here soon,” she said, as we walked away from the café.

It didn’t take long to get back to Joseph’s house. I was already exhausted after everything that happened during the night. Joseph could see it on my face and wrapped me in his arms, holding me close to him.

I nearly melted into his embrace. I loved the way I felt towards him, and I didn’t want that feeling to go away. This was truly an amazing trip and I’m so glad I got to come here. I only had a week left of this trip though and the thought of going back to my old life was truly something I didn’t want.

I wanted to stay here with Joseph and be with him. I could be a writer right here, just like he did. I could work on my writing in the café and truly enjoy my life here. Of course, I would miss Ruby and my father, but they would understand. They would only want me to be happy.

I was tempted to say all this to Joseph, but right now, I didn’t want to talk. I just wanted to be with him. I looked up at him, my face warming slightly as his eyes poured into me. My heart thudded violently against my chest as he leaned down and pressed his lips gently against mine.

He tasted so sweet, and I couldn’t help but close my eyes and bask in his amazing scent and taste. He deepened the kiss, and I felt the hunger he had toward me. His arms firmly wrapped around my waist and his tongue entered my mouth, exploring me curiously.

He was filled with lust, and I felt myself growing wet between my legs. Still kissing me, Joseph lifted his shirt over his head and threw it on the couch. I did the same with my sweatshirt. I wasn’t wearing a bra, so I was completely exposed to him.
