Chapter 187
Tessa’s POV
“Mr. Evergreen, I’m sorry to bother you but you have a phone call,” Mica said from the other side of the door.
My heart was pounding rapidly against my ribcage as I stared up at Joseph. He stared back at me, that desire never leaving his eyes. He pressed his finger to my lips and hushed me; my face flared with heat as I felt his erection at my core.
He wasn’t going to stop?
Was he serious right now?
I soon got my answer when he pressed himself inside of me and I gasped at the incredible sensation.
“Can you take a message?” Joseph asked loud enough for Mica to hear.
He didn’t sound at all disgruntled, which was the most impressive part about this. Joseph trailed his kisses down the nape of my neck and across my shoulders as he buried his manhood inside of me and thrust against me.
I threw my head back in pure ecstasy and tried everything I had inside of me to not moan.
“He said his name is Carter,” Mica continued. “According to him, you wanted him to call you back.”
Carter was calling the ice rink? Joseph must have told him we were here, but what could be so important was that he’d call in the middle of our date?
Joseph gripped my hips firmly in his hands and thrust even harder, brushing any thoughts out of my head. I threw my head back and held onto the mini bar for support. Mica grew quiet and for a moment, I feared that he knew what we were doing on the other side of this door.
I feared he might try to enter.
“Tell him I’ll call him back,” Joseph said through his teeth.
“Yes, sir,” Mica said, and then I heard his footsteps getting further away and Mica’s voice fading.
Relief flooded through me but was quickly replaced with pure bliss as Joseph tugged my nipples with his teeth and continued to thrash into me. This time, I did let out a small moan. I couldn’t hold it in anymore.
Sweat beaded on the top of his forehead and began to drip down the sides of his face. I was feeling incredibly warm myself.
I ran my fingers up the front of my body and cupped my breasts as I felt my orgasm reaching its peak.
“Joseph…” I gasped as I allowed myself that sweet release.
Within a few more pumps, Joseph grunted, and he released himself on my belly. Leaving us both panting and sweaty.
Joseph pressed his forehead against mine and kept his eyes closed as we fought to catch our breaths. I was the first to open my eyes and when I did, I peered up at him with such love and admiration in my eyes. I hoped that he could see it.
He opened his eyes and his gaze reflected mine, which made my heart nearly jump out of my chest.
He kissed me tenderly on the lips before pulling away from me, leaving me feeling cold and vulnerable.
He grabbed my clothes off the ground and handed them to me. I pouted as he grabbed his own clothes and started to get dressed. But he froze when he saw the dismay on my face.
Giving me a sexy smirk, he said, “There’s more of that later.”
“I want more now,” I said seductively as I ran my fingers up his arm.
He pressed himself against me and soon, his lips were attacking mine again. But the kiss ended as quickly as it began, and he groaned as he pulled away.
“I want you in my bed,” he said, giving me the sexiest grin.
Butterflies attacked my stomach as I slid off the mini bar and grabbed my clothes. I couldn’t get dressed fast enough and it made him laugh.
He had a nice laugh; I feel as if I don’t hear it often enough but when he did laugh, it made my heart skip a beat.
Once we were fully dressed, I gave him a sweet kiss on the lips before we went back to our table. I wasn’t really hungry for food anymore, but I did want to finish my wine.
Once we were done with the bottle of wine and talked for a little bit, Joseph stood and offered me his hand. I took it and together we left the room and went back out into the rink. Mica was leaning against the bar and speaking to the bartender when we entered and as soon as he saw us, he stood up straight as if he was just caught doing something he shouldn’t have been doing.
“Dinner was excellent, Mica,” Joseph said fondly as he put his shoes on. “Give my compliments to the chef.”
Mica nodded his head.
“Yes, sir,” he said, and then he paused. “I apologize again for the interruption earlier.”
“It’s no worries,” Joseph said in return. “It was my fault for letting Carter know where we were going to be tonight.”
That reminded me to ask why Carter was calling in the first place. Joseph didn’t seem to look phased by the interruption, but it was weird that he’d call in the middle of our date this evening. It must have been extremely important for him to do that.
We said our goodbyes and the two of us made our way out of the building and to his waiting car.
…..
Joseph’s POV
“Goddamn it, Carter. Why the fuck would you call the rink like that?” I seethed into the phone as I paced back and forth in my study.
“You weren’t answering your cell phone,” Carter said simply; I rolled my eyes at his response.
I didn’t tell him I was going to the rink so he could call and interrupt the date, quite the opposite actually.
Tessa was in my bedroom right now getting ready for me to make love to her again while I was stuck in my study talking to my dimwitted friend.
Angry wasn’t even an understatement.
“You sent me the images of Tessa’s family and you asked if I recognized any of them,” Carter reminded me.
It was true; after I did research on Tessa’s family and saw the images of her parents, both of whom I recognized but couldn’t remember why I recognized them, I reached out to Carter hoping that he would be able to help me jog my memory.
But he didn’t remember them either. I thought this search was going to be a dead end, but apparently, Carter did his own research.
“Did you find something out?”
There was a long pause on his end and for a moment, I thought he might have hung up. But when I glanced at the screen of my phone and saw the timer still ticking upward, I put the phone back to my ear.
“Carter?” I urged impatiently.
Tessa was completely naked in my bed right now and I really wanted to get back to her. If Carter was only calling to waste my time, then I was ready to hang up the phone and return to my woman.
“I went through the research you already sent me, and most of it was mortal news articles,” Carter began to say a little too slowly.
“Okay?”
“But if you were somehow involved, I doubt you’d be in the mortal paper. So, I dug a little deeper and searched mythical articles,” Carter continued.
My entire body froze.
I was suddenly feeling stupid; why hadn’t I thought about that?
Maybe because I didn’t think there was any way that Tessa and her family could be involved with any beings other than mortal. But Carter was right; if I was somehow involved maybe other vampires were involved as well.
“And what did you find out?”
“Years ago, there was a battle in the human world. Vampires were after something and they knew of a witch that had it,” Carter explained, making me furrow my brows together. “But this witch wasn’t going to give it up that easily and it started a war between vampires and witches. This witch had her entire coven fighting alongside her in this battle and these vampires had their own army. The battle was brutal, and it took a lot of lives, including that main witch…”
My heart started to weigh heavily in my chest. I still didn’t understand where Carter was going with this and how this had any connection with Tessa and her family. I don’t think I’d partake in a war like that, but I suppose it depended on what this witch had.
Why couldn’t I remember?
Surely a battle like that would leave a significant impression on me; that’s not something I’d easily forget.
“Do we know what the vampires wanted?”
“Something called the heavenly heart,” Carter said. “I couldn’t find much about it. But they claimed it held so much power that it was worth starting a war over. It was worth losing lives to get.”
I never heard of any such thing.
Why hadn’t I heard of that?
“There’s something you should know,” Carter continued and this time, he swallowed audibly loud.
“What’s that?” I urged.
“The picture of the Campbell Farm that you sent me, matches with the picture of the battle I found,” Carter said slowly. “I’ll send you the picture. But the battle took place on that farm.”
My heart fell deep into my stomach; the entire world around me seemed to have stopped moving and I stood in place, completely frozen.
“In the picture…” Carter continued. “I saw a woman in the background who was part of the battle.”
I didn’t need him to tell me who that woman was; I already knew what he was going to say. But I remained quiet and allowed him to continue.
“Joseph, it was Tessa’s mom.”
