Chapter 301
Tessa’s POV
“There’s a chance she might be…” Anna admitted, much to my dismay. I sucked in a sharp breath as I stared at her, not able to comprehend what she was saying.
“Why do you think she could be Eevee?” Joseph asked.
“She disappeared after the war,” Anna said, biting her lower lip. “But I had a prophecy a long time ago about her, and I think Benji freaked out and that’s why he stole Alison.”
“You aren’t making any sense, Anna,” Joseph said, shaking his head. “What are you talking about?”
“What do you guys know about the 3 prophets of the goddess?” Anna went on to ask, ignoring Joseph’s question.
“I know you’re one of them,” Joseph surprised me by answering.
“The three prophets of the goddess?” I asked, raising my brows at them. “What does that mean? The Goddess has three personal prophets?”
Anna nodded.
“The prophet of death,” she explained. “This prophet sees only death and destruction. Once the prophet of death has a vision, there’s no changing the outcome. It’s set in stone. Fate.”
My mouth fell open.
“That’s what you are?” I asked. “You’re the prophet of death?”
She nodded again.
“Yes, unfortunately, I am,” she answered. “I was given the gift a few years after I became a vampire. I was in my final years of the vampire academy when it first happened. It was a professor…” her voice trailed off as she got lost in the memory. She then shook her head, recovering. “Then, there’s the prophet of the saving grace.”
“Prophet of the saving grace?” I asked.
“Yes; this prophet can see death and destruction as well. But their prophecies are not set in stone; they can see multiple different outcomes depending on one's decision-making at the moment. This prophet can save lives. They see someone dying in a vision and they can do something to save them. They have not been marked by death. It’s only when the prophet of death sees the same vision that the outcome is unavoidable. The prophet of saving grace can also see when people get hurt, not just death, and they can save them from that as well.”
“Ruby…” Joseph shocked me by saying.
I snapped him a look.
“What??” I gasped. “Ruby is the prophet of saving grace? How do you know that?”
“Because she saw you that were you in trouble in her vision, giving us time to get to you. Also, she saw those new vampires causing mayhem at the school and there was plenty of time to stop the events, but nobody took her seriously,” Joseph explained.
“This is true,” Anna said, nodding. “I was suspecting the same thing.”
“What’s the third prophet?” I found myself asking.
“The prophet of new hope,” it was Esme that answered. “They see miracles and saviors. They see the world in a brighter light. They are the most in tune with the goddess.”
“Correct,” Anna said, smiling at Esme.
I didn’t have to ask to know who that prophet was; I already knew.
“My grandmother,” I whispered.
“Yes,” Esme answered. “She was a wonderful prophet. She saw you coming years before your arrival.”
“It’s important to know that once a prophecy is seen, it vanishes forever. It is never seen by any other prophet again,” Anna continued to explain. “This could explain why one prophet had a vision of the heavenly light and a lot of people now hadn’t heard of it. Prophecies usually die with those who keep them dear. If no one is alive from that time and if they didn’t continue to teach their children of the prophecy, it’s more likely that no one has heard of it.”
“Emmet must have been taught the prophecy by someone in his family,” I breathed. “That’s why he’s heard of the heavenly light.”
“So, you’re saying the former prophet of New Hope has a vision of the heavenly light and Constance had a vision of the heavenly heart?” Joseph asked.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I think,” Anna says, nodding her head.
“But what does this have to do with Penny?” I finally asked the question that’s been on the tip of my tongue. “Or Eevee… whatever her name is.”
“I had a vision about her,” Anna said. “And my visions are set in stone. I went to Benji the morning of the vision and told him in 30 years, Eevee would be burned alive and there was nothing anyone would be able to do about it. After that, he had it in his head if she were stronger and more powerful then she would be able to save herself from that awful fate.”
“He wanted to give her the heavenly heart,” Joseph whispered. “That’s why it was so important to him. It was never for him… it was for her.”
“I’m afraid so,” Anna said, looking between all of us.
“You think Penny… or Eevee has been planning this since her father died in that war?” I asked, not wanting to believe it was true. My father was going to be gutted when he realized that Penny was just playing him to get to me this entire time. I felt sick to my stomach at the very thought of it. “Where does Lucias fall into this?”
“He’s been wanting the Heavenly heart since the prophet has been told,” Esme said, rolling her eyes. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been working with her this entire time.”
I shuddered at the very thought. I wanted to call my father again, but memories of our last conversation invaded my mind and I stopped myself. He wouldn’t listen to me even if I did call him right now with this new information. I needed to find actual proof against Penny so he could see for himself that things weren’t as they seemed.
“Why do you think Eevee and Lucias were unaffected by Alison’s spell?” Joseph asked. “They shouldn’t even remember the Heavenly Heart existed.”
Anna thought about it for a minute.
“Does your father have a basement door somewhere behind the house?” Anna asked, looking at me.
I nodded.
“Yeah, it’s a storm door,” I answered.
“It’s possible that Eevee was there that night and hid in the basement of the house,” Anna explained. “If Alison put a spell on the house to make anyone inside immune to the curse, then that would include the basement.”
My mouth fell open.
“You think she was inside the house?” I gasped.
Anna nodded.
“It’s the only explanation I can think of,” she said, clearly deep in thought. “I’m not sure about Lucias though. He wouldn’t be able to get into the house with the spell in place. The spell also prevents witches and wizards outside of your bloodline from entering the house from my understanding.” Then she looked at Esmeralda. “Is that correct?”
Esme nodded.
“Yes; it was precautionary after she left the coven,” Esme answered.
“What am I supposed to do with this information?” I then asked. “I can’t just let her continue pretending to love my father when she’s really after me. Now that her anchor is dead, she’s going to have to get her hands dirty.”
“For right now, we keep monitor of her and the rest of the coven,” Esme said, folding her arms around her chest. “I’ll stick around for a while so I can help and get you magically trained. Now that we know somewhat of what you can do, we can work with that.”
“Did you really summon a hurricane?” Carter asked, scaring me half to death. I completely forgot he was there; he’s been so quiet since this conversation started.
“Yes,” I answered. “And a tornado.”
“Ruby is going to lose her mind when she hears about this,” he laughed, shaking his head. I smiled; I was glad that they were talking and that they were seemingly okay.
I looked at the clock and frowned.
“It’s getting pretty late in the evening. I wanted to cook dinner for the whole coven,” I tell him.
“I’ll help you,” Anna said, standing to her feet.
We spent the next couple of hours slaving in the kitchen and cooking a giant meal for the entire coven. The aromas of the food must have woken most of them because soon, a majority of them were joining us in the kitchen.
“It smells great in here,” Patty said as she peeked at the food I was finishing cooking.
“Grab a plate, it’s just about done,” I told them.
“Why are the vampires still here?” Amy asked, folding her arms across her chest and glaring at Esme.
“Because whether you like it or not, they are my friends,” I told her firmly. “And they are part of Joseph’s coven, so you are going to show them respect. Or you can find somewhere else to stay.”
None of them looked happy about it, but they didn’t argue any further. It was a hostile environment, but soon everybody was eating and lost in their own minds. By the time everyone was fed and returning to their rooms, we said goodbye to Esme, Bernard, and Carter. This left Joseph and I alone finally.
“You should get more rest,” he tells me, kissing my cheek gently. “You have a big day tomorrow and you need to be prepared.”
“What do I have going on tomorrow besides work?” I asked him, confused.
“You are interviewing THE Joseph Evergreen, of course.”
