Chapter 318
Third Person POV (Penny/Eevee)
Looking at herself in the mirror, Penny, formally known as Eevee, couldn’t help but smile at her reflection. She had always been beautiful with her sapphire blue eyes and her long silky blond hair. Her skin had always been flawless, and her figure had always been perfect with ample breasts and an hourglass waistline.
Men had always looked at her with such lust-filled eyes and she didn’t mind flaunting what she had to get what she wanted.
She was supposed to get her stunning looks from her mother. Her mother passed away when she was young, but Eevee remembered how beautiful she was. It was no wonder her father fell head over heels in love with the woman, even if she was nothing more than a human.
Eevee remembered the moment her life changed forever, and it wasn’t when her mother died. It was when she found out she was going to die. There was a 50/50 shot that she would end up a vampire. Her father being a vampire and her mother being a human, neither Eevee nor her father knew what Eevee would end up with as her father wouldn’t take the risk of finding out on his own once she turned 18.
It wasn’t until the prophet of death, Anna, came to her father that Eevee’s life changed drastically. They were in the middle of dinner when the paled face prophet ran into the dining room, sweat coating her brows and breathless as she had just run a marathon. Anna was fairly new to their tribe; she just graduated from the vampire academy top of her class and was given a goddess-given gift of prophecy.
She was also the lover of one of their most faithful and oldest vampires. Because of this, Eevee’s father, Benji, trusted Anna and trusted her visions when they came through.
“Elder, I had a vision,” she said, panting and holding her stomach with all her strength.
Benji looked up from his meal, narrowing his eyes at Anna with thinning lips.
“It better be good for you to be interrupting our meal, Anna,” Benji said, his voice dry and it even gave young Eevee a chill down her spine.
Anna opened her mouth to speak and then she spotted Eevee seated and munching on her food.
“Perhaps we should speak in private, sir,” Anna said, her voice dropping low.
Benji put his fork down and leaned back in his seat.
“Whatever you need to say to me, you can say in front of my daughter,” Benji said, his lip curling in disgust.
Eevee noticed Anna swallowing hard and a slight tremor in her stance as she spoke again.
“It was about your daughter, sir,” she said, her voice quivering.
“Go on…”
Anna looked surprised that he wanted to have this conversation in front of his daughter. Eevee almost excused herself, not sure she wanted to hear this vision. But her body wouldn’t allow her to move; she remained frozen with her eyes fixed on Anna’s pale features.
“Very well…” Anna said slowly. “I watched her be killed…”
Eevee gasped, the horror of the situation clouding her. Benji slammed his fists on the table, anger coursing through him.
“How?” He asked, rising to his feet. His face was red with fury and Anna quivered in her place as she answered.
“She was burned alive,” Anna answered. “It was a fire spell… I’m not sure who cast it. But I know when it happens.”
Anna slid a piece of paper across the table and toward Benji. He snatched it without a final thought and Eevee heard him growl with anger.
“She will be 35 years old on this date,” he said, his voice low and threatening. “And you don’t know who it was?”
She shook her head.
“No, I don’t,” Anna answered. “I didn’t recognize her. But she was someone they called the Heavenly Heart.”
Recognition flashed through Benji’s eyes and then rage.
“Are you saying the Heavenly Heart kills my daughter?” Benji asked through his teeth.
“That’s what they called her in my vision, yes,” Anna answered, lowering her gaze. “I’m not sure what that means. Are we in danger, sir?”
Benji was quiet for a moment as he processed those words and then he lowered himself back into his seat.
“We would be… if the Heavenly Heart was even born yet,” Benji scoffed. “She won’t be born for another few years. She will be easy to destroy, and I know exactly who will be giving birth to her.”
“Elder?” Anna asked, seemingly confused.
“A witch in a coven not far from here,” Benji explained. “I’ve heard of this prophecy and I’m familiar with some of the members of this coven.” After a pause, he smiled. “Don’t look so surprised, Anna. I have connections all over the world. I’m not going to let anything happen to my daughter.”
He peered down at Eevee, and she met his eyes.
“You don’t need to worry about a thing, Eevee. Your father will protect you. That’s a promise,” he assured her.
She believed him; she trusted him.
Eevee wasn’t sure what her father planned to do or how he planned to destroy the Heavenly Heart. She wasn’t even sure what that meant. But a few years had passed and she hadn’t heard of it since that conversation at the dinner table.
Eevee was 10 years old when her father brought her down to the dungeon for the first time. She was terrified about what she would see but he was so excited to show her something. She fit her small hand into his large one and walked with him down the narrow steps and into the dark and smelly basement. They walked around different corners until he reached a set of locked doors.
Once unlocked, he walked inside, pulling Eevee along with him. Her entire body froze when she saw the woman seated in the corner of a small and dark cell. She looked dirty and she smelled foul. She kept her head down; her greasy dark hair draped over her face, covering her dirty and pale features. She was cradling her swollen belly and Eevee knew right away that she was pregnant.
“This is the woman carrying the Heavenly Heart,” Benji explained, pride clear in his tone. “I was going to destroy the child immediately. But I decided on something better for you, daughter.”
Eevee looked up at her father, confused.
“What is it, father?” She asked him, her voice coming out as barely a whisper because of how afraid she was.
“You are about to be the most powerful being on earth,” Benji surprised her by saying. “Nobody will ever be able to hurt you.”
Eevee’s eyes landed on the woman; she saw how broken and terrified she was. But she trusted her father more than anything in this world and if he said this was the only way to save her, then Eevee knew she had to go along with it.
She wasn’t sure what happened after that. A couple of months later, Eevee was taken to a strange farm she had never been to before with a ton of people she had never met. But there were still people she had known for most of her life, so she felt oddly safe.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to bring her, sir?” One of Beni’s warriors asked from the front seat. Eevee sat squished between a few other warriors in the back seat. Other vehicles were used for the rest. There were some from the tribe that went missing weeks prior, and Eevee never understood or asked where they went.
“Yes,” Benji answered flatly. “We are doing the transfer spell on the spot. I have a wizard on standby. Once we have the Heavenly Heart in our possession, we will be able to do the transfer spell and make my daughter the most powerful being on the planet.”
Eevee was terrified, but she didn’t speak.
They got out of the car; Benji took Eevee and walked with her across the farmlands and then a battle broke out. Eevee didn’t think Benji expected a battle of that magnitude to happen. He seemed furious and he was desperately looking around for something, which Eevee assumed was the Heavenly Heart.
Magic was being thrown around; vampires were tearing out throats and people were dying all around them. Tears sprang from Eevee’s eyes as fear consumed her.
A tall man with glasses and shaggy blonde hair stood off in the distance, eyeing Benji carefully. Eevee had a strange feeling about this man, but her father ran to him with Eevee still tucked in his hand.
“Take her somewhere safe,” he ordered.
“I’m not a babysitter,” he said through his teeth.
“I don’t care; without her, then the plan doesn’t work. Take her somewhere,” Benji ordered.
The man looked skeptical as he stared down at a frightened Eevee.
“You owe me,” the man said, angrily as he grabbed Eevee’s arm and pulled her along with him. Eevee looked back at her father; tears clouding her vision as they grew distant. Her father didn’t spare her another look; he ran off into the battle and disappeared before her eyes.
Eevee screamed for him and wanted to run back to her father, but the man was too strong.
“Come on!” He said in a gruff tone. “I’m not going to fight with you, kid.”
“But my daddy…” Eevee cried.
“He’s busy,” the man growled.
Eevee looked ahead and saw a woman standing in front of the larger rancher. She was casting some kind of spell over the house. The man saw this too and swore under his breath as he picked up speed and ran around the side of the house. He paused at the basement door and pulled it open.
He grabbed Eevee before she could protest and forced her down the dark and narrow stairs. Her entire body trembled as the man climbed in behind her, sealing the doors shut.
She’s not sure how long they stayed in the basement of the rancher, but minutes turned to hours and soon the sun was starting to rise. After what felt like an eternity, the man finally opened the basement door and climbed out first. Once the coast was clear, he helped Eevee out as well.
The battle was over, and everybody was gone. Her heart hammered against her chest as they searched the perimeter for any signs of the battle, but it was all cleared. Even those who died were no longer on the property.
“Where’s my father?” Eevee asked, her voice coming out broken.
“I don’t know,” the man said, shaking his head.
They traveled together for some time until they reached the familiar tribe lands that Eevee had grown up in. She was more than relieved to go home, and she ran as fast as she could into her house.
“Daddy! I’m home!” She yelled.
But there was no response.
Nobody was here.
“Daddy?” She asked, walking around the house like a lost puppy. “Anybody?”
It was a ghost town in a small village.
Nobody returned after the battle.
Did they all die?
Panic consumed her once she realized her father wasn’t there. She turned to look at the man who also seemed confused and pale as he helped search the village.
“They aren’t here…” he said, more to himself than to her. He looked down at Eevee. “I guess it’s just you and me, kid.”
Eevee cried and shook her head.
“I want my father,” she whispered.
“Yeah, and I want to not be stuck with a kid, but here we are,” he said. “I can’t bring you back to the coven though. I need to hide you somewhere else. But don’t worry, I’ll still take care of you and make sure you survive. Maybe one day we can still do that transfer spell and make you powerful. You’ll be like my powerful little weapon like your father had promised.”
Eevee swallowed hard, terrified of what her future held.
“What’s your name again?” He asked.
“Eevee…” she whispered, lowering her gaze.
He nodded, thoughtfully.
“It’s nice to meet you, Eevee,” he said, holding his hand out for her to shake. “I’m Lucias.”
