Chapter 342
Third Person POV (Ruby)
At some point, Ruby had fallen asleep. Though, she knew right away that it wasn’t a normal sleep. It was a vision.
This one felt a different thought. She was surrounded by my dark smoke, though it didn’t feel like smoke, it only looked like it. She couldn’t exactly see what was happening, but she could hear the sounds of death and destruction around her. Innocent people screaming and crying for mercy. The sounds of supernatural’s fighting and killing one another.
There was so much darkness and despair, that Ruby felt a sense of dread weighing on her chest. Her breathing hitched when some of the smoke cleared, and she saw blood soaking the grass around her feet. Puddles of blood were everywhere. The sky was hazy and unrecognizable.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at all the bodies that occupied the earth. This was too much for her to handle; why did she have to be cursed with seeing things like this? It wasn’t fair…
“You are strong enough, young one. You have the purest soul in the world. You are the only one I trust to relay the messages of what you see,” a voice said from behind her.
The voice was feminine and enchanting; it was almost musical. In an instant, Ruby felt a sense of calm in the middle of this chaos. She turned slowly and saw the most beautiful woman she had ever seen standing before her.
She was practically glowing and wore a gown of white that flowed around her like white puffs of clouds.
Ruby knew right away that this woman was the Moon Goddess.
She was so beautiful that Ruby couldn’t even look her directly in the eyes. She fixed her eyes to the ground and bowed.
This, oddly enough, made the Moon Goddess chuckle.
“Oh, Ruby. You are so dear to me. I am so unbelievably proud of you.”
Ruby lifted her gaze, surprised by this.
“You are proud of me?” Ruby asked. “But I’ve been captured. I am stuck…”
“You are not stuck,” the Moon Goddess told her gently. “You are exactly where you need to be. Your purpose in this life is to protect Tessa Campbell because she holds something very important. Something that will keep this world safe. Without it…”
The Moon Goddess turned to look at the scene surrounding them; a look of sorrow crossing her face.
“Destruction and despair will follow.”
“This will happen if Tessa dies?” Ruby nearly croaked. “Is it because she holds the Heavenly Heart?”
The Goddess shook her head.
“Something even more important,” she answered. “She holds a child.”
“Yes, she’s pregnant. But what does her child have to do with this?”
“Her child is the Heavenly Light,” the Goddess explained. “She will be the key to keeping this world safe from my brother.”
“Alastar,” Ruby whispered.
She’s not sure how she knew the Goddess’s brother’s name, but the name came to her thoughts at random. She also knew that Alastar was the ruler of the underworld; this darkness and despair surrounding them belonged to him. The Heavenly Light was meant to keep him away and without it, he would rein hell on earth.
Panic struck Ruby immediately.
“Tessa must survive. She can’t die,” Ruby said, shaking her head.
“And she will survive. But she cannot do it alone.”
“What can I do? I’m unable to move in my normal form. They did something to me that makes me unable to use my body.”
“It's drugs that will wear off soon enough,” she reassured her prophet. “This vision you are having now, you must release it and allow all supernaturals around the world to see this as well. If they were to take Tessa’s life trying to get her heart, it would be a fate much worse than any of them could ever possibly know. They aren’t thinking clearly now. They are thinking out of greed and envy. They will be on this farm soon enough and a battle will break out.”
“Can’t you do something?” Ruby asked, tears in her eyes. “You are the Moon Goddess.”
“I am, but even I can’t stop what is about to come. I cannot interfere with free will. It was a gift to my children, and I never take away a gift once it is given. But with your abilities, you can make them see the truth of their actions.”
“I’ll do it,” Ruby said without hesitation.
The Goddess looked saddened for a moment and Ruby knew that wasn’t all.
“It’ll take a lot of power, Ruby,” she warned. “There’s a chance you might not survive this. I had come to Tessa in a dream and told her the same thing. She’s aware of what needs to be done, but I could sense her hesitation. She doesn’t want you to perish because of this. But she also knows there isn’t another option.”
Ruby nodded, understanding. This was going to take almost everything out of her.
“But if you die, just know that you will have a place in my realm and you will live by my side for the rest of eternity,” the Goddess assured her, bringing tears to Ruby’s eyes. “You will always feel loved and happy. I promise you that.”
“I trust you,” Ruby told her. “If this is something I must do, then I’ll do it. I can’t let this happen.”
She looked around at all the darkness and gruesome scenes around her.
“I have to protect the world from your brother,” Ruby added with finality.
The Goddess smiled brightly and bent down so she was at eye level with Ruby.
“I am so proud of you,” she whispered. “You are meant for such great things. I was right when I made you my prophet.”
With that, the Goddess planted a light kiss on Ruby’s forehead before she was blinded by a flash of light.
Ruby’s eyes flew open, and she found herself back in the stable. She quickly sat up; the drugs that were given to her had worn off, just as the Goddess told her it would. She was alone though, only the sounds of growing voices outside of the stables sounded in her ears.
She needed to find Tessa.
…..
Tessa’s POV
Chaos.
That is how I can describe it.
I was just getting used to the fact that vampires and witches were real; now we were throwing werewolves into the mix?!
There were about 3 of them chasing the car.
I must give it to Bernard to be able to drive through it. They tried to knock the car over; wolves were pouncing on top of the car, attempting to break the window. But Benard was quick and flung them off. Carter pulled out a gun from the glove compartment and started to shoot them with silver bullets.
Joseph kept me protected and shielded from what was happening outside of the car. I could hear growling, howling, and straight-up shouting. They would do just about anything to get their hands on the Heavenly Heart, even if it meant ripping me to pieces.
My father’s farm came into view and relief flooded me when I saw Esme’s car. But then that relief slipped away when I saw how many creatures were surrounding the perimeter. There was no way we were going to be able to hide inside. They were already fighting with one another, trying to eliminate their competition.
My heart fell deep into my stomach when I thought about my father. He must be so scared. He had to have been inside the house, terrified about what was happening on his farm.
My only hope was that Esme was true to her word and keeping him protected.
Carter handed Joseph a gun.
“Loaded with silver bullets,” he explained as he gave Benard a gun as well.
“We protect Tessa at all costs,” Joseph said with finality in his tone.
“I need to find Ruby,” Carter told him.
Before any of us could say another word, someone smashed the window in, and I let out a scream. A vampire with his fangs elongated attempted to grab me.
“We know you have the Heavenly Heart. I remember your scent!!”
Joseph pointed his gun and shot him straight in the forehead. Blood splattered all over me as I watched his body fall limp to the ground.
“Come on,” Joseph, pushing the door open and dragging me out of the car with him.
The battle broke out and chaos surrounded us. Esme and the rest of the coven used their magic to fight; I was surprised to see Bernard’s tribe there and fighting alongside us. I got a glimpse of the Nightwalker police force also fighting and I wondered at what point they arrived.
More supernatural creatures showed up and they were all looking to get to me. Joseph kept me by his side as he fought and shot anyone who dared step toward me.
I needed to find my father and make sure he was okay. If anything were to happen to him, I would never forgive myself for bringing the battle here. It would be my fault completely because they were only here because of me.
A wolf flew through the air and in our direction.
I screamed Joseph’s name, but he was much faster than I; he pointed his gun and pulled the trigger. The wolf practically exploded mid-air, raining blood upon us.
Fire burned at my fingertips as I blasted fireballs in all different directions, trying to get as many of them as possible.
They were trying to surround me, and I wasn’t having any of it.
I was pissed and they were going to feel my wrath.
It didn’t escape my notice that during all this chaos, Penny hadn’t made any type of appearance.
