Chapter 2
A sharp pain made Jill Roger raise her head in terror. The dragon-shaped pendant in her hand, soaked in tears, seemed to be writhing.
I see clearly now. Yes, it’s indeed twisting. The dragon’s head and tail are twisting in opposite directions. Severe pain spreads from the palms of my hands throughout my body.
I want to let go of these hands, but I’m reluctant to do so. Although it’s broken into two pieces, it’s still the last thing my mother left me, the only thing she gave me. For all these years, I never allowed it to leave my side.
A blinding light shot out from his palm. Jill Roger was so scared that she stared open-mouthed, unable to utter a sound. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she held them back.
In the blue glow, the pendant, which had split into two pieces, suddenly recombined before separating again. Yes, the pendant transformed into two little dragons, each swimming within the palms of their respective owners.
The blue light gradually faded. The colors of those two little dragons also dimmed, eventually turning blood red.
“Ah!” The stinging sensation became even stronger. The little dragon was disappearing little by little. At the same time, the veins in the palm of his hand became clearly visible, resembling the branches of a large tree with dense foliage.
It spread little by little, eventually reaching his wrists. A freezing coldness spread from his arms throughout his body, seeping into his spine and reaching his skull. Jill Roger felt dizzy and lost consciousness.
“Hey, if you’re going to die, then say something! If you really have to die, go die somewhere else! Why die in my house?” The door to the bathroom was being banged loudly. Lily Rogers’s voice was filled with disgust.
As consciousness slowly returned, Jill Roger felt her mind to be empty, as if a voice was speaking to her.
Slowly opening the door, Lily Rogers stopped mid-motion, her hand still on the doorknob.
“What’s so special about a pendant? Get upstairs and clean it already!”
Gil Roger had a blank expression on his face. His ears buzzed. The voice was barely audible. The more he tried to hear it clearly, the more blurred it became.
“Hey, kid, are you trying to scare me on purpose? Even if you’re Lily Rogers’ brother-in-law, I’m not going to give you any respect!” The blond guy stepped forward and yelled at Gil Rogers, pointing at his nose.
“What face are you trying to give me? My face isn’t meant for beggars to use, you know!” Lily Rogers said nonchalantly, holding a cigarette in one hand and a beer can in the other. She took a sip of her beer before continuing.
The blond guy laughed and said, “That’s what you said!”
As he spoke, he raised his hand and slapped Jill Roger across the face.
“Snap!”
“Ah…”
The shrill screams weren’t coming from Jill Roger at all. It was Yellowhair. He clutched his right wrist with both hands, trembling all over. Big beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.
“You, you damn fool! You broke my hand! Are you trying to kill me?” The blond-haired man screamed in pain.
Gil Roger was also confused, as he hadn’t done anything at all. He hadn’t even felt the slap that the blond guy gave him across the face.
“You are the last warrior of my Dragonblood clan left in the human world…” There was a buzzing in his ears, but suddenly, the voice became clearer. Gil Roger heard those words.
“The Dragon Token will awaken memories of your past lives. It will guide you through the process of self-upgrading, helping you become the truest version of yourself…” The voice gradually faded away, like the wind drifting through a deep cave.
Past-life memories! Upgrade system! Gil Roger was utterly confused. But for now, he had to deal with what lay ahead first.
When everyone heard the yellow-haired man screaming weirdly, they immediately gathered around him.
“Barry Newton, your hand… seems to be broken!” A guy with one side of his head completely bald and the other side with long hair stared in shock.
“Kill him for me!” It seems that Barry Newton is the leader of these young men.
“You go ahead and fight, but be careful not to mess up my place!” Lily Rogers showed no mercy at all. Instead, she sat down on the sofa and crossed her legs.
“Be the most authentic version of yourself…” That was the only thought that kept circulating in Jill Roger’s mind.
Seven or eight fists were swinging toward him at the same time. They were so close that they almost touched the tip of his nose.
Stretching out both hands, he quickly grabbed the two fists in the middle and pulled them apart. The guys attacking him were immediately thrown off balance and stumbled around.
Rushing into the crowd, Gil Roger swung his hand, delivering slaps to everyone’s face like raindrops.
For a moment, the hall was filled with crackling noises, and, of course, screams and howls as well!
Lily Rogers sat up straight in shock, her grip on the beer can slipping. The beer started to spill all over her, but she didn’t even notice!
Is this really the same worthless guy I know?
“Gil Roger, are you crazy to give away a worthless pendant like that?”
Lily Rogers finally came to her senses and shouted at Jill Rogers.
Jill Roger stopped what she was doing and turned to look at Lily Roger. Lily Roger’s heart trembled, and she managed to hold back the words that she wanted to say.
She saw a cold, chilling glint in Jill Roger’s eyes—a look that was truly terrifying.
The hallway was in complete disarray. Small thugs were rolling around on the floor, while the other girls were huddled together on the sofa, terrified.
The blond man struggled to get up, his face covered in blood. “You… you better wait for me!” He took out his phone and dialed a number.
“Barry, I don’t care about your feud with that worthless guy. I want you to go outside and settle things between you!” Although Lily Rogers was still terrified, she certainly didn’t want Jill Rogers to die in her own home.
“Don’t worry, I won’t put you in any trouble!” The blond man spat out, staring viciously at Gil Roger.
Gil Roger smiled slightly and walked upstairs.
“Waste, you’re scared, aren’t you? Look how scared you are, laughing at yourself. Too bad it’s too late now. Today, I’m going to make you understand exactly how many eyes Prince Ma has.” The blond-haired man yelled with a gloomy expression.
“Congratulations on advancing to Dragon Blood Level 1. Now you can do whatever you want…” Gil Roger’s ears vibrated, and his voice was crystal clear.
Going upstairs back to my tiny room, which was actually meant to be a storage area for the entire villa. It was usually filled with brooms, mops, basins, and other such items.
In other words, after Gil Roger and his wife Leo Roger got married, they didn’t sleep in the same bed. Instead, they lived in conditions that were even worse than those of the Roger family’s servants.
None of this matters anymore. It turns out I have such a special identity after all. And just now, I did what I wanted to do—taught those ignorant brats a lesson. As a result, I was promoted to Dragon Blood Level 1.
Although, for now, he still had no idea what exactly “Dragon Blood Level 1” was.
Pulling open the crookedly arranged wardrobe, Gil Roger found the most presentable outfit in his eyes and put it on. Then, he went downstairs again.
Outside the villa, car lights flickered and brake noises echoed continuously.
He slowly descended the stairs, tapping the handrail gently. Huang Mao watched him with a cold smile.
The door was violently pushed open, and a man with a blood-red phoenix tattoo on his head walked in, surrounded by men in black suits.
“Matt Blower, the feared boss of the Irish mob…”
“Bro, it’s him!” The blond-haired man pointed at Gil Roger with a resentful expression on his face. His broken right hand hung limply down.
Yellowhair is Matt Blower’s brother…
