Chapter 6
In the private room, the young men and women watched helplessly as Boston’s most prominent socialite politely escorted Jill Rogers away.
“Lily Rogers, what’s his background, exactly? Look at the way Monica Bridges treats him… Good heavens, I can’t believe my eyes!”
Actually, Lily Rogers was even more shocked than everyone else. What on earth was wrong with this good-for-nothing today?
Everyone was silent, the air seemed to freeze in the room. Suddenly, the door to the private room flew open, startling everyone. After all, Monica Bridges, though seemingly gentle, could make Boston tremble with her mere footstomp. Tang Xiaotian’s fear of her was just proof of that.
“Miss Lily Rogers, Mr. Hoyle has instructed that you should have a great time here. Also, Miss Tang said she’d cover the cost of your bags today!” A tall man in a black suit stood at the door, his hands respectfully clasped in front of him as he spoke.
Everyone understands that this respect isn’t meant for them, but for Monica Bridges.
But then, Lily Rogers felt as though her face was shining with brilliance. After all, that’s just how women’s vanity works!
The door wasn’t closed. Behind the man in the black suit, a team of waiters entered one after another. They immediately replaced the drinks, beverages, and fruit platters on the coffee table with fresh ones.
“It’s Romanée-Conti! Exclamations of surprise filled the air!” This is a red wine that starts at 110,000 per bottle.
None of those present are from prominent families. Yet, when red wine worth 110,000 each was ordered in five bottles, they’d never seen anything like this before.
Ansel Brode squatted by the coffee table, watching as the waiter opened each bottle of red wine. Looking up at Lily Rogers with flattery in his eyes, he said, “Even if this wine were fake, it would still cost thirty or forty thousand per bottle!”
“A dog can’t spit out ivory!” Lily Rogers gave him a disdainful look. Earlier, she had no choice but to play the role of a “peripheral figure” in front of Ansel Brode.
Ansel Brode’s social circle always consisted of people from the lower to middle levels of Boston’s upper class, as well as those from the upper to middle levels of the lower class. For Lily Rogers to be able to attend his gatherings, she needed someone to introduce her. Even then, she could only sit in the corner and secretly watch Ansel Brode surrounded by women.
Furthermore, Jill Rogers went to Supreme 888 with Monica Bridges. This private room occupied the entire top floor of Charm Gold. Upon entering, one saw a space of several hundred square meters divided into multiple functional areas: a gym, a movie theater, a bar, and a karaoke room. There seemed to be a swimming pool at the end as well.
“Miss, why did you bring a beggar up here?” An old man in his fifties, dressed luxuriously with neatly combed hair, bowed slightly at Monica Bridges, while casting a disdainful glance at Jill Rogers.
“Uncle, please be polite. This is a guest invited by Grandpa!” Monica Bridges’ tone was completely emotionless, completely different from her enthusiastic demeanor earlier.
Gil Roger looked straight at the old man known as “Uncle Noble”. Blue light flashed in his eyes: “Swollen cheeks, dark circles under the eyes, insufficient kidney energy, weak spleen and blood, bloated stomach, excessive liver yang! Beep… beep…”
Gil Roger suddenly grabbed Uncle Gui’s hand. He himself was astonished by this reaction, as it was completely instinctive and not controlled by his mind.
The thumb and index finger rubbed back and forth on the Hegu point on Uncle Gui’s wrist. Uncle Gui screamed in pain: “Who on earth are these barbarians? How rude of them… Hic… Puff…”
He was shouting loudly, when suddenly he let out a loud burp, followed by an even louder fart!
Monica Bridges immediately covered her nose with her hand, fanning it awkwardly with her delicate fingers.
“Miss… I…”
Gil Roger released his hand and said calmly, “You stay up late all the time, causing serious damage to your health. If you don’t take care of yourself, your life expectancy probably won’t exceed five years!”
“You… say… uh… pfft…” Uncle Gui was completely terrified. He wanted to ask Gil Roger further questions, but continuous hiccups and farts made it impossible for him to speak.
“Has the guest arrived?” A deep voice came from inside.
Gil Roger’s earlobes suddenly twitched. A mechanical voice spoke: “Expert level. Mortal, Level 5 Elementalist. Abnormalities in the chest cavity, severe damage to the cervical spine, blocked meridians! Suitable candidate for Level 2 Dragon Blood upgrade… Beep…”
This time, the sound wasn’t the short beeps of Didi, but a continuous alarm sound that made Jill Roger’s eardrums tingle. He immediately shook his head.
Monica Bridges and Uncle Gui both stared in surprise at Jill Rogers’ sudden action. Jill Rogers smiled apologetically and said, “Sorry, I haven’t cleaned my ears in ages!”
In front of him was a screen. An old man stepped out slowly from behind it. Gil Roger noticed that the old man had white hair but a youthful face. His silver hair was neatly combed back. He was dressed in traditional Chinese clothing and wore cloth shoes with elastic bands.
It felt familiar just by looking at him. Jill Roger stepped forward, a little hesitant. In her ragged clothes, she felt too embarrassed to even offer a handshake.
This old man is Chu Tian, the father of Joey Bridges, the head of the Tang family. In Boston, almost everyone knows that the Tang family is actually still under the control of this “emperor-emeritus.” Joey Bridges is nothing more than a figurehead.
Just as Gil Roger hesitated, Chu Tian felt a powerful surge of magic hitting him. The pressure was so strong that it made it difficult for him to breathe. He couldn’t help but cough a few times.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a young man under twenty years old. Although he was dressed in tattered clothes, his eyes sparkled with vitality. In particular, the capillaries on either side of his temples were faintly pulsating.
“Could there really be another Elementalist on par with me in this world? No, it’s impossible. He’s still so young. Even if he started practicing Qi while still in his mother’s womb, twenty years isn’t enough time for him to reach the fifth level!”
Chu Tian endured the encirclement of magic and reached out to Gil Roger, asking, “What’s your name, young man?”
Gil Roger said calmly, “Zhang… Gil Roger!”
Chu Tian’s palms were icy cold. The moment Gil Roger’s hand touched his, Chu Tian felt a shock in his heart. A warm current began to flow from Gil Roger’s hand into Chu Tian’s palms, continuously.
“Let go, let go…” The voice echoed in his ears once again. Gil Roger immediately released his grip. However, Chu Tian’s face, which had been pale, now turned red.
“Zhang Xiaoyou… no… Master Hoyle, you…” Chu Tian stammered!
Master? Although Gil Roger saved my life in the parking lot just now, Grandpa was simply being polite. How could he possibly call someone who wore clothes from street stalls a “master”?
Monica Bridges looked utterly confused, but Chu Tian respectfully said to Gil Rogers, “Master, please have a seat!”
Gil Roger thought to himself, “Since I’m already here, I might as well sit for a while. Especially since there are delicate pastries on the coffee table ahead—most of them are things I’ve never seen before.”
My stomach started to growl helplessly. “Master, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you? This isn’t home. Today, I’m hosting a guest here. I prepared everything in a hurry. Master, what do you usually like to eat?”
Chu Tian was extremely respectful. The more so, the more incredulous Uncle Gui and Monica Bridges seemed.
“Do you have ramen? I really like tomato and egg ramen with a sauce on top!” Jill Rogers asked, looking delighted.
The three of them looked at each other. Chu Tian was the first to react. “Yes, yes! Someone, go call the best ramen chef over right away! I want a bowl of tomato and egg ramen served before Master Hoyle in ten minutes!”
