Chapter 3
After reporting to the police, I had just returned to the villa to pack my things when the door was kicked open.
William stood at the entrance with a dark expression, Leo and Alex behind him. The anger in the boys’ eyes made it seem as though I had committed some unforgivable crime.
“You called the police and accused Emily of murder?” His voice was icy. “Who did she kill? Are you ever going to stop?”
Before I could speak, Leo rushed over and shoved me hard. “Bad mom! Are you only satisfied if you get Emily killed?”
Alex lunged at me too, his little fists pounding against my leg. “You’re awful! Emily is so nice—why are you framing her?”
I staggered back from the push, my back slamming into the wardrobe, the pain making me suck in a sharp breath.
With reddened eyes, I looked at them, my voice trembling. “She swapped the dummy with my brother. She caused Ethan to be fried alive… I called the police to arrest her. Was I wrong?”
Father and sons all froze at the same time.
William sneered. “What nonsense are you talking about? How could Emily possibly do something like that!”
I laughed, laughing until tears streamed down my face. “Then call my brother right now. See if he answers.”
Frowning, he took out his phone and dialed Ethan’s number.
“Beep—beep—”
After a long stretch of ringing, the call disconnected automatically—no answer.
William’s expression shifted slightly as he was about to speak, when the door was gently pushed open.
Emily walked in, her face pale, leaning weakly against the doorframe. “I heard… Ethan went on a graduation trip. Maybe the signal is bad, that’s why he didn’t pick up.”
Leo and Alex immediately ran over, one on each side supporting her. “Emily! Why are you out of the hospital? Didn’t the pack doctor say you needed to rest properly?”
She smiled helplessly. “I heard Grace called the police saying I committed murder. How could I not come and explain?” She raised her eyes to look at me, her gaze gentle and resigned. “Grace, I know what you’re worried about. Although William and I were once in love, we missed our chance. Now that you’re married, I will only bless you quietly and never destroy your family. There’s really no need for you to frame me like this… murder is far too serious an accusation.”
Leo immediately lifted his little face, full of admiration. “Look at Emily’s grace! And then look at Mom! The difference is obvious!”
Alex curled his lips in agreement. “Leo, you’re right. Mom only lies and hurts people!”
My whole body trembled as my nails dug deep into my palms. “When the police finish investigating, you’ll know who’s right and who’s wrong.”
“Investigate?” William let out a cold laugh. “You framed Emily—that’s the truth! What’s there to investigate?”
He looked down at me from above, his tone leaving no room for doubt. “I’ve already withdrawn the case and made arrangements. In this entire pack, no one dares to take your case.”
I stared at him in disbelief. Just as I was about to speak, my phone rang.
It was the police station.
“Luna Grace, that case has been withdrawn… Alpha William has spoken, and there’s nothing we can do. Please… accept our condolences. In the entire pack, no one dares to take this case.”
The call ended, and I stood there as an icy chill crept up from the soles of my feet.
Pain, despair, fury… every emotion crushed down on my chest, as if someone had carved out a piece of my heart, leaving my vision dark with agony.
Yet in the end, I laughed.
I looked at my closest Alpha mate and my sons, laughing until tears wouldn’t stop falling.
He softened his tone. “Enough. This ends here. I went a bit too far this time and scared you. I apologize.”
He paused. “Whatever compensation you want, I can give it to you.”
Tears were still falling, but my gaze grew colder by the second.
I raised my hand to wipe them away and turned toward the drawer. My movements were slow, as if each step was bidding farewell to my past self.
When I took out the Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement, my fingers trembled slightly—
not from anger or grief, but from a calm that felt almost like release.
