Chapter 7 June’s POV
I thought I was actually going to connect with him again, but the moment I saw his face clearly, I stood frozen. I couldn’t even blink my eyes properly.
It’s not him. I quickly said to myself, realizing that I had made a mistake.
“I am sorry, I thought you were somebody I met last night.” My apology was quick, and just as I was about to leave, he called me back. The way he moved made me remember something that happened a long time ago, when I also had an encounter with a stranger.
I was supposed to meet with a man I had met online and that was before I met Declan. The man in the picture I had was looking in the car and had dark hair compared to the one I saw the following day.
I was confused that day and my eyes couldn’t hold themselves because of the pressure.
The man knew about the situation immediately and raised his hand slightly. “Junie?” The man asked immediately.
Suddenly, a sound snapped me back to normal and I looked at the man again, whom I had mistaken for the stranger.
I blinked. “I… I’m sorry?” I just had to apologize again.
“You are the girl who has been looking at me for some time now, right?” The man quickly acted like he was interested in talking to me.
But I wasn’t interested in talking to him again because he wasn’t the person I was looking for. I quickly thought about it and quickly nodded my head.
“Yes,” and with a blink of an eye, I was already out of there.
Just a few steps away from his table, he followed behind me, and I became scared. “You call that a mistake?” he asked from a distance.
It was then that I knew I was in trouble. I had messed with the wrong person.
I finally stopped and turned around to him. I brought out my phone because I had a picture of the stranger last night. A picture that I had taken before we left for the room. It was very faint, but I knew I could see something from it.
“This is the person I am looking for, and he is no way close to your resemblance,” I snapped.
He didn’t reply, but he was just smiling at me and I didn’t like that. It was looking like a trap in front of me and I just needed to get out of there at that moment.
But who is he and why is he stalking me?
My cheeks burned.
“Oh my God,” I whispered. “I am so sorry. I thought you were someone else.”
He looked confused but not angry. “Someone else?”
“Yes,” I said quickly, my words rushing out. “I was supposed to meet someone here, but… I guess I got the wrong person. I’m really, really sorry for disturbing you.”
For a second, I thought he might be upset. But instead, he chuckled softly.
“Well, that explains why you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Exactly, but why did he behave as if he didn’t understand what I had been trying to say? He understood everything from the very beginning and
I just felt like he was being stubborn.
But since he had finally admitted, I just gave a weak laugh and took another step closer to him. “I guess you are enjoying this right now.”
He nodded kindly. “It’s okay. Mistakes happen, but you just look like you have been busy lately.”
“I’m so sorry,” I repeated, bowing my head slightly. “Have a nice day.”
That was how I left the cafe before he could even say anything again. I didn’t know who it was, and I didn’t know why he had to prolong the discussion for that long when I had admitted that it was a mistake from the very beginning.
I already had an encounter with someone I didn’t know and he decided to leave without even saying goodbye.
But then, I just have to forget about it because it’s not going to bring anything good. When I stepped outside, I could hear the horn from the cars and train, it was almost like they were announcing my name.
But the nice thing was that I felt the cool air of Vegas and immediately exhaled sharply, still pressing my hand against my chest.
“What was that, Junie?” I muttered to myself. “You just walked up to a random man and almost gave him a heart attack.”
But he also did the same to me, I shouldn’t even feel guilty. I don’t want that to happen. But there was something about him, and he didn’t even want to talk about it. I could see it in his eyes when he looked at me.
I shook my head, feeling foolish. Everything about this trip had been messy from the start. I thought coming to Vegas would give me answers. Instead, I kept running into confusion and wrong turns.
It didn’t even take long before my phone buzzed inside my purse. I quickly brought it out and saw Cassie’s name brightly written on the screen.
I stared at her name for a moment before answering. “Hello?”
“Junie!” Cassie’s voice came through quickly.
“Where are you? I’ve been calling you!”
“I was… out,” I said, rubbing my forehead. “I went to meet someone.”
“And?” she asked eagerly. “Did you find him? Did he tell you anything?”
Cassie was such a naughty girl, and when I mentioned that I went to look for someone she had just thought about it being a man when I didn’t even say anything to her.
Although I had already sent a message to her earlier that I was going to the café to get a coffee.
And even when I saw them at the café, I also dropped a message for her, but she didn’t reply because she was still with her lover.
But I hope she is back. Because I wasn’t comfortable anymore.
I leaned against the wall, closing my eyes. “No. It wasn’t him. It was the wrong person.”
“What?” Cassie sounded shocked. “You’re serious?”
“Yeah,” I sighed. “A totally different person. I apologized and left immediately. I must have mixed up the face or something.”
“That’s fine, you don’t have to worry about him anymore. I’ve got someone that you might actually be interested in. This is nothing compared to that stranger.” She replied almost immediately with a more confident voice.
“What? Are you serious right now?” I asked with a frown on my face and immediately I dropped the phone.
