“Uhk!”
Luna quickly tried to cover her thigh. She immediately lowered her head when she accidentally met Matthias’s sharp blue eyes.
It feels like he could kill me with just a look! I’m so frustrated because I can’t even fight back!
Luna grumbled inwardly, biting her lower lip. Her body language clearly showed how uncomfortable she felt.
Matthias continued staring at her with an arrogant gaze, a faint smirk appearing on his face when he realized that the beautiful woman beside him was truly afraid of him.
He could clearly see Luna slowly moving away and curling into the corner near the car door. Her face turned toward the window, and she did not have the courage to argue or oppose him.
“Hm… such a timid and obedient woman.”
Matthias muttered before sitting properly again. He checked the tablet in his hand, returning to the work he needed to finish.
'What’s wrong with being afraid? I once tried being brave, and it got me thrown into prison!'
'Humans are the most terrifying creatures on earth. They can do things beyond reason. Of course I’m afraid—especially of you, a terrifying man with so much power.'
'If I fight back, I might disappear from the face of the earth!' Luna answered silently in her heart, her hands gripping each other tightly because she could not say those words out loud.
For Matthias, Luna might simply be an entertaining toy, a tool he could use to get back at his father.
But for Luna Sharon, this was a matter of life and death, after leaving prison, she had already made up her mind that she had to be more careful.
She had to uncover who was behind her grandmother’s death, she had to prove that she was innocent, and she had to reclaim her father’s wealth, which rightfully belonged to her.
All those reasons forced Luna not to act recklessly... She would follow this man’s game until she found an opening to escape.
Without realizing it, Luna’s round eyes became glassy with tears. She held them back by pinching her own hand.
'Don’t cry, Luna. All of this will pass.'
'You will break free from this man’s control and prove that you are innocent!'
'Just hold on a little longer.' Luna tried to strengthen herself.
Even though it felt incredibly difficult and suffocating, the fact that she was once again trapped by this man’s power made her chest tighten.
But this was not the time for Luna to give up.
She believed there would come a moment when she could escape him—and take revenge on everyone who had framed her.
“Sir, we’ve arrived.” Matthias’s personal driver spoke clearly, his voice reaching Luna’s ears.
The car door opened, and Luna immediately became alert.
Her round eyes blinked when she saw the grand mansion before her. Her heart pounded rapidly because she had no idea what would happen next.
Matthias was already outside the car, he adjusted his suit and glanced toward Luna.
“Get out and hold my hand. We need to look affectionate in front of him.” Matthias gave the order clearly.
Luna froze for a moment, but her body moved on its own out of fear.
Nervously, she stepped out of the car. She looked restless as she tried to cover her long exposed thigh.
She looked incredibly seductive—almost like a temptress, Luna glanced at Matthias’s hand, which was waiting for her.
Slowly, her small hand reached out and held his firm hand.
At that moment, Matthias smirked slightly and lowered his head, whispering near Luna’s ear... “Remember, you are a seductive woman and a former prisoner who will become my wife.”
“You are not allowed to say anything while I’m speaking to my Dad.”
“You must remain a doll by my side—smiling and behaving like a cheap woman.” The whisper sounded terrifying.
Goosebumps rose all over Luna’s body. She became stiff, her eyes widening.
In this situation, her body felt numb, she desperately wanted to run away, but this man had already bought her, and she had no power to simply leave.
With heavy breaths and trembling steps, Luna followed Matthias... Every step made her heart shake with fear of what awaited her ahead.
Luna lowered her head and stared only at the luxurious marble floor beneath them.
Until Matthias suddenly stopped walking... It seemed they had arrived.
With stiff movements, Luna tried to pull her dress down to cover her thigh before slowly lifting her face.
But the moment she saw what was in front of her... She quickly lowered her head again.
Standing before her was an elderly man who looked extremely furious, and beside him sat a beautiful young woman, smiling suspiciously in Luna’s direction.
'That’s terrifying… Is that his father?'
'It feels like he could kill me whenever he wants!' Luna screamed inwardly, her mind filled with fear and pressure.
“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS, MATTHIAS?!”
“WHY ARE YOU WITH A CALL GIRL? ARE YOU TRYING TO TEST MY PATIENCE?!” Morgan exploded with anger, his voice booming through the room.
But Matthias did not look the least bit intimidated.
Instead, he smiled faintly and wrapped an arm around Luna’s shoulder... “Oh come on, Dad. Why are you angry?”
“You should be welcoming your future daughter-in-law happily.”
“Doesn’t my future wife resemble your new wife?”
“They’re both cheap women.”
“You should be proud of me for following in your footsteps, Father.” Matthias replied calmly.
He knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew what reaction he would receive from his father.
“YOU! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK LIKE THAT?!”
“I WILL NEVER APPROVE YOUR MARRIAGE TO THAT WOMAN!”
“YOU WILL MARRY VALERY GLARE! THE DATE HAS ALREADY BEEN SET, AND YOU CANNOT REFUSE!” Morgan roared hoarsely.
His hands trembled from shock and fury at Matthias bringing such a disgraceful woman into his house.
“Hah?”
“That’s unfortunate, Dad.”
“I’ve already registered my marriage with her, the arranged marriage you planned will never happen.”
“Because I will never live my life according to your orders.” Matthias answered bluntly.
He had indeed registered the marriage without anyone’s approval— including Luna’s.
And of course, Morgan was not the only one shocked to the point that his illness flared up.
Luna was also stunned and stared at Matthias.
“W-What?!”
“My heart… where’s my medicine?!” Morgan began fumbling around frantically.
The young wife sitting beside him immediately looked worried and called the servants to take Morgan to his room so he could rest immediately.
The atmosphere became suffocating and tense.
Luna had no idea what was happening, but it seemed Matthias already had a cunning plan in mind.
“Please help me take my husband to his room and give him his medicine.” Hera immediately helped Morgan into his wheelchair with the servants’ assistance.
Then they went upstairs to calm Morgan down and give him his medication.
Matthias and Luna were left behind.
As soon as they were gone, Matthias removed his arm from Luna’s shoulder... “Sir, what did you mean by what you said earlier?”
“Registering a marriage? I never agreed to that. Why should I agree to become your wife?”
“I refuse!” Luna finally gathered the courage to speak.
She demanded to know why Matthias was doing all this—why it had to be her, and why she should agree to such a sudden and absurd marriage.
Matthias sighed slowly when he heard her words.
He turned toward Luna. Because of his height, he had to lower his head slightly to look directly at her face.
“You still don’t understand, do you?”
“I already told you—I bought you, and you belong to me.”
“You’re a cheap woman, a former prisoner. You’re the perfect match to stand beside me and humiliate my father and the family of the woman he arranged for me.”
“That means you must behave like a cheap woman in front of everyone to make my plan work.” Matthias spoke in a low but sharp voice that made Luna tremble with fear.
He reached out and took a strand of Luna’s hair, casually playing with it while smiling faintly and staring at her intensely.
“I know you’re a smart girl.”
“You should be smart enough to understand that I can do anything... Making you disappear would be a trivial matter for me.”
“So you’d better remain obedient—my doll, my possession—until I get what I want.” Matthias’s words were terrifying.
His quiet voice pierced straight through Luna’s heart... He felt like a suffocating darkness.
Luna stood frozen, unable to say a word.
Her face turned pale, and her body trembled violently as she realized that she had become entangled with a group of people who held immense power in this country.
Her life was now in danger.
Seeing that Luna finally understood her position, Matthias straightened his posture, he stared at her for a few seconds... No one knew what was going through his mind.
“I need to take something from my old room.”
“Wait here. Don’t go anywhere until I come back.” After giving the order, Matthias walked away, his long strides echoing through the room.
He left Luna behind—terrified by the seriousness and cruelty of his threat.
“Hah!”
“My heart feels like it’s about to burst!”
“He’s terrifying… absolutely terrifying!”
“What should I do to escape from him? I don’t want to be anywhere near him!” Luna began to panic, worried about her own safety.
The fear Matthias had left behind made it impossible for her to think clearly.
“Hey, you. Can you talk to me for a moment?”
In the middle of her panic, a soft female voice suddenly spoke.
When Luna turned toward the sound, she saw the woman who had been sitting beside Matthias’s father earlier.
Hera.
Hera didn’t wait for Luna’s response, she simply walked toward the back garden and gestured for Luna to follow her.
Once they reached the garden, Hera spoke with Luna.
No one knew exactly what they talked about, but Hera handed Luna a small piece of paper... “If you’re interested in what I just told you, contact me at this number.”
“I need to go back now. And never tell Matthias that I spoke with you.” With that, Hera quickly walked away.
Luna accepted the small paper and immediately hid it inside the small bag she was carrying, she stood there silently, thinking hard about what Hera had just told her.
“Ah… my head hurts.” She sighed heavily and lowered her head, her gaze fell on her short skirt and tight dress.
Without realizing it, tears began streaming down her cheeks until her vision blurred.
“Cheap woman… call girl… former prisoner… toy!”
“Why do they all insult me like that?!”
“Why has everything turned out like this?”
“Standing in someone else’s house wearing a humiliating tight dress!”
“Why does life feel so unfair to me?”
“Wasn’t it enough that the world already took my father and mother away from me?! And now it wants to take my dignity too?”
“I have my limits. If all this pain continues, I don’t know if I can endure it... If they keep hurting me like this, how am I supposed to survive?”
“Why does all of this have to happen to me?” Luna sobbed bitterly.
At this point, she could no longer hold back her feelings, she could no longer stop her tears.
Matthias’s terrifying threats, the insults from him and his father, the whispers and gossip from the servants... Her stepmother who had stolen her father’s wealth, and the man she once believed was the love of her life—now married to her own stepsister.
All of it had happened in such a short time.
It was too painful... Too suffocating.
Luna didn’t know if she could survive it, no matter how many times she wiped her tears away, they kept falling.... The bitterness in her heart made her look utterly helpless.
...
Meanwhile, on Matthias’s side...
“Where is that woman?”
“Didn’t I tell her not to go anywhere?”
“DAMN IT! Is she trying to run away again?” Matthias had returned.
When he couldn’t find Luna, he immediately assumed she had tried to escape... That thought made him furious, especially since his mood was already terrible.
His footsteps echoed again as he walked through the house.
When he entered the back garden, his brow furrowed as he spotted Luna standing alone ahead... “Why are you here?”
“Were you trying to run away from me?” Matthias strode toward her quickly and grabbed Luna’s hand roughly.
The sudden force made Luna’s small body jerk violently, and she nearly fell.
That was when Matthias realized...
Luna was crying.
“Ah!” Luna cried out softly and shook off Matthias’s grip... “Stop hurting me! Stop yelling at me!”
“Why are you so mean?!”
“What did I ever do to you?”
“Why is everyone so mean to me?”
“You framed me, kidnapped me, accused me, and keep attacking me with insults!”
“Why are all of you so mean?!” Luna finally broke down... The words burst out together with her hoarse, trembling sobs.
She was suffering so much.
