Chapter 3 THE PREGNANCY
Allis’s POV
♦ MONTH LATER ♦
“I always knew you had made a huge mistake getting married to him,” my mom said for the hundredth time.
I rolled my eyes. “You don't have to keep mentioning it, mom. The marriage is over, and he hasn't come looking for me. If he's trying to forget me, then I'm trying to do the same. It's been about a month already” She looked away, like she didn't care about what I was saying.
“Your father wants you to handle the business anyway. Do you think you can at least do that?”
I cocked an eyebrow at her. “As far as I remember, I was handing the business before i got married. It'll be nothing to do it again.”
That was finally enough to get her to smile. “I trust you,” she whispered.
Just I was about to get up, I suddenly felt nauseous, and I quickly hurried to the bathroom, as I heaved, throwing up everything that I had for breakfast.
My mom was right behind me as I was washing up. There was an unreadable expression on her face.
“You've been throwing up for the past week, Allis. Is there something I should know?” She asked, and I felt my stomach turn.
“No,” I whispered. “There's nothing.” I didn't even let my mind wander to what might be wrong. I was just sick. I was going to stop throwing up any minute.
“Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital for a test? We could at least find out what we need to treat.”
I hesitated before giving her a small nod. “Of course.”
Within a few minutes, my mom was pulling up at the hospital parking lot. I was more than glad that my dad was out on a business trip. If he was there, then I knew that I wouldn't be hearing the end of it.
We were quickly attended to, all thanks to my mom connection. I tapped my feet against the floor. I was more than nervous after my blood and urine were taken. I couldn't push past the feeling that something wrong was going to happen.
My mom quickly held my hand. “You don't have to worry, love. No matter what it is, we're here for you.”
I gave her a quick nod, swallowing hard. I got to my feet immediately the doctor came out of his office, with my test result in hand. There was a small smile on his lips.
My mom remained seated, watching him. “What did the results say?”
“Congratulations, Miss Allis. You're One month pregnant.”
I felt my knees buckled as I collapsed on the chair. My mom held on to my hand, like she was expecting it. She gave the doctor a quick handshake as she took the test results from him. I was shocked that she managed to remain calm and collected.
Without hesitation, she led me back towards the car. That was when I saw her lose it.
“Have you been meeting Will behind our backs? How the fuck are you pregnant, Allis? You should at least consider yourself.”
I could barely breathe as I tried to wrap my head around everything I was hearing.
“It's not Will, mom.” I whispered. “Will hasn't touched me in years.”
Her face was twisted in confusion. “Who… who is responsible?”
Tears pricked the back of my eyes. “I have no idea,” I whispered. “It was more or less a one night stand.”
Her face softened again. “At least the child doesn't belong to that bastard.”
The tears were flowing freely down my cheeks. “I'm so sorry, mom,” I said. “I've been nothing but a disappointment this whole time. I'm so sorry.”
“It's okay,” she muttered. “But you can't put your father's reputation at stake. How does Florida sound?”
“Florida?” I asked in confusion.
She nodded quickly, licking her lips. “You can go there with Oli. And then return a few years later to handle the business. The business isn't going anywhere.”
There was no need of even thinking things twice. I didn't have anything to live for in New York. If my best friend was going to come with me, then I was sure that I was going to survive.

♦Nine Months Later♦
I was clutching to Olivia's hands like my life depended on it. “I'm going to die,” I screamed, and she shook her head as the doctors wheeled me away. She was practically running as she tried to keep up with me.
The last few months in Florida was nothing short of amazing. Olivia was there from the beginning to the end, and I didn't even know how I was supposed to repay her for being such a good friend.
But at that moment, it felt like she was going to be crying over losing me.
“Nothing is going to happen to you. You're going to have these children, and you're going to take care of them.”
I gave her a small nod as my insides clenched. I could feel them slowly come down. Yes, the man from the one night stand was bitchy enough to leave me pregnant. Not just pregnant, but with twins.
Within minutes, I was laying down on the bed, with nurses gathered around me, whispering to each other about how many cm dilation I was at. .
“Come on, push!” One of the nurses screamed. I arched my back off the bed, pushing with everything that I had in me.
“Push!!”
The doctor scream as she holds my hands.
“C’mon, one more time! Push!!!”
I caught my breath, following every instruction, until I felt the first baby come out of me. The baby's crying seemed muffled as I continued pushing. Within seconds, the second baby was out. Two different sounds of crying filled the room, and I felt myself collapse on the pillow, with a small smile on my lips.
“Can I hold my babies?” I asked, barely able to keep my eyes open.
The doctor quickly shook her head. “We have to get the both of them cleaned up. But we'll inform your friend about your safe delivery.”
I allowed them push me in a wheelchair to the bathroom, where I cleaned up.
True to the doctor words, the door was pushed open a few minutes later, and Olivia was all smiles as she walked into the room.
“You did it,” Olivia said, looking at me like even she was unable to believe her ears.
“I can't believe it either,” I breathed. “I just want to hold my babies now.”
I was more than glad that I never for once doubted being a mother. I knew that I was going to raise my kids well. It didn't matter if they didn't have a father.
The nurse walked into the room again, with just one child in her arms. I looked behind her, waiting for another nurse to come forth with my second child. The second nurse never came.
“Where's my baby?” I asked, and she slowly shook her head.
“I'm sorry ma'am,” she whispered. My heart stopped even before she said her next words. “The second baby is being operated on.”
“She was crying!” I screamed. “She was perfectly fine.”
Olivia held me, trying to keep me from screaming. “Cool Allis, miracle can happen, You still have one child to live for. You can't disappoint that child.”
She wasn't lying. She wasn't wrong.
I finally nodded, wiping the tears from my face as I extended my hand to take my current surviving child.
I glanced at her red hair, and I froze. I didn't have red hair. Nobody at my house did. But then, I remembered that she had a father. Memories of him were hazy, and I didn't even know what color of hair he had. It didn't matter, since he wasn't even in her life.
I sniffled, kissing her forehead. She was mine to love. Mine to keep.
