Chapter 147
Gavin’s POV
Gavin spent the last few days working tiredly in the nursery. He’s been wanting to surprise Erin with this for a long time and he was excited to reveal it to her.
Erin spent the next few evenings giving the nursery her own final touches.
But one afternoon, she tiredly came into his office, peering over at him with a timid frown on her face.
“Have you been sleeping?” He asked, narrowing his eyes at her paling face.
“A little at a time,” she admitted. “The pup is very active and makes sleeping difficult.”
“I’ll call the doctor and see if he can prescribe you anything,” he said, about to pick up the phone.
“I’d rather not take medication. Maybe if he knows of a natural solution or remedies,” I said.
“I’ll ask him,” he assured me.
“Can it wait until later, though?” I asked. “My boss, Theo from the organization wants to speak with you.”
Gavin heard stories about the leader of the organization but of course, he never knew who it was. He heard he was one of the fiercest wolves to ever roam their lands. He also heard that getting on his bad side would be a death sentence.
What would the leader of the organization possibly want with Gavin?
“I’ll go with you,” Erin said, taking hold of his hand. “Theo won’t hurt you as long as I’m there.”
“Why would he want to hurt me?” Gavin asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
“I don’t know. I’m just saying,” she teased with a wink.
“Come on, I’ll take you to the organization,” I told him as I went to retrieve the moonstone pendant.
Once I presented it to Gavin, he stared at it with wide eyes.
“I’ve only ever seen pictures of that,” he breathed. “I can’t believe you’ve had one this entire time.”
“It’s our passage into the headquarters realm,” I explained. “It’s like a key to get inside. Theo makes sure we are kept hidden from the naked eye.”
“That’s genius,” Gavin agreed.
Gavin went with Erin to the headquarters and the building was bigger than he could ever imagine. It was basically a castle. It was kept in a separate, locked-away realm. Which explained why Gavin couldn’t find the realm up until that point.
Theo, the leader of the organization, sat at his desk and Erin had no problem walking in. She stood with confidence and without fear in the world.
Which made sense because she was so used to being here. Gavin was still trying to wrap his mind around that fact.
“Thank you for coming to meet with me,” Theo said, glancing up from his computer. “I know you are finding out a lot of information and I’m sorry that you’ve been kept in the dark about things for so long. But we weren’t sure we could trust you. I’m sure you understand.”
“Yes,” Gavin said, nodding his head. “I do understand why you had to keep this from me. I appreciate all the help you’ve given. I wouldn’t have been able to keep my family safe if it wasn’t because of your help.”
“You’ve proven to be a great ally to us, Gavin, and we appreciate all you have done as well. When the organization first found out about your abilities, we wanted to recruit you right away. However, we couldn’t know that the Slayer organization was after your family. They’ve been watching you for a long time and if we were associated with you, then we would be found out and our secrets would be exposed. We couldn’t allow you into our organization,” Theo explained.
“Even if we did let him into our organization, there’s no telling what Henry would have done. He could have manipulated all our minds into hating Gavin. Or worse…” Erin said, looking between the two of them. “It would have been stupid to have them in the same organization.”
“You are right,” Theo agreed, glancing in my direction. “But Henny is no longer a factor. He’s being kept in one of our best-guarded prisons. One day, the leader of the Slayer organization will be joining him. But I don’t think we can do that alone…”
Theo said that last part while looking at Gavin.
“You might be a good ally to us on our mission to find Jessie.”
“What are you saying, Theo?” I asked.
“I’m saying I want Alpha Gavin to join the Moonshadow organization,” Theo answered.
Gavin was at a loss for words; this was an invitation he wasn’t expecting. He looked at Erin who looked just as shocked. He wondered what it was that she was thinking about.
Was she happy about this?
Did she want him to decline the offer?
He could potentially help them find Jessie and put her in prison, but it wasn’t guaranteed that he could.
“Is it a good idea to have us both in the organization?” She asked, uncertainty ringing in her voice.
Her hands were on her round stomach when she said that he could practically see what she was thinking on her face.
If they were both in the organization, they would both be doing dangerous missions and putting themselves in dangerous situations. If anything were to happen to them while on a mission, then what would happen to their young pup?
They couldn’t leave their child an orphan.
It was a thought he didn’t want to think about.
“Gavin is one of the toughest and fiercest Alpha the werewolf territory has ever had. He’s also the strongest one with abilities. I truly believe that he was stronger than Henry. He’s certainly smarter,” Theo said, eyeing Gavin carefully. “The Moonshadow could benefit greatly from having him on our team. Erin is also our best agent, and it would be a shame to lose her as well. I think if we had both of you on our team, we would officially be undefeatable. The next time trouble rises, I have no doubt in my mind that you two would be able to handle it.”
Erin looked at me Gavin for a moment like she expected him to say something about this. But for once in his life, he was speechless.
Theo grabbed a Moonshadow pendant off his desk and revealed it to Gavin. The pendant had a small ‘G’ engraved on it and Gavin knew it was meant for him.
“What do you say, Alpha Gavin Pierce? Will you accept this invitation to join the Moonsahdow organization and fight alongside us to obtain world peace?”
Gavin stared at Theo for a long while, processing what he had just said before he looked back down at Erin.
He knew Erin was never going to leave the organization. This place meant the world to her and fighting for world peace was something she’s been doing for the majority of her adult life.
He could never take that away from her.
He opened his mouth to decline the offer. Someone had to stay home with the pup while the other was fighting to make a difference in the world.
It was time for Gavin to take the backseat and let Erin shine.
But just as he was about to speak, Erin’s words silenced him.
“Yes,” she said quickly. “He will accept.”
