Chapter 148
Gavin’s POV
“Are you out of your mind?!” Gavin asked as soon as they were back in the packhouse and away from the ears of Theo. “Why would you tell him I’ll join the organization?”
“Did you not want to?” Erin asked, raising her brows. “I saw the look in your eyes. I knew you wanted to.”
“That doesn’t matter. What about our pup?”
“What about our pup?” Erin counter-asked, folding her arms across her chest. “Our pup will be just fine. It’s not like we are going to be absent parents. I’ve been part of the organization this whole time and you’ve never noticed.”
“But I didn’t know you were on dangerous missions. If anything happens to us—”
“Nothing is going to happen to us. Theo will make sure of that,” she assured him, but he didn’t feel very reassured.
“But if something does happen to us… our pup would be an orphan,” he said, meeting her eyes.
“Then, let’s make sure nothing happens to us,” she said, taking him by the hands. “Being part of the Moonshadow isn’t about seeking out the most dangerous missions. It’s about conquering world peace and making this place a little better every day. I want to fight for a better world so our children can live carefree and safe lives. I’m doing this for our future, and it would be nice to have you by my side during this journey.”
He knew she was right; he’s always wanted to be part of something as big as the Moonshadow and this was a huge honor to be accepted.
“Plus, we have a huge support system,” she added. “If anything happens to us; our pups will be taken care of.”
He sighed at her words, knowing that she was completely right.
“I know and you are right…’ he admitted to her.
She beamed up at him, kissing him gently on the lips.
“Maybe I will be good at this Luna thing,” she teased, making him laugh.
…
Erin’s POV
2 days later
I stood in front of the mirror with a racing heart. I wore a white wedding gown designed by Greta at her boutique. It was a shimmering white gown with white and pink flowers that went around my waist and white swirls of fabric stitched throughout.
It was sleeveless and a diamond necklace gifted from Laura, Gavin’s mother, dangled against my chest and illuminated my fair skin.
The dress had to be resided a few different times because my baby bump keeps growing.
Everybody has been telling me that I am stunning and glowing because of this pregnancy, but I don’t feel like I’m glowing. I’m feeling all sorts of self-conscious and fat.
Today was the day that I was finally going to marry Gavin Pierce. My mate.
Emily was overjoyed and she couldn’t wait to see our mate at the end of the aisle. But I was filled with an overwhelming sense of nerves.
“Oh, my goddess, Erin,” Jill breathed as she walked into the dressing room of the large chapel. “You look beautiful!”
“I’m so nervous; I think I might throw up,” I admitted, holding onto my stomach.
“Not while you are wearing your wedding dress,” Anna said worriedly. “Just take a deep breath, Miss Erin. It’s going to be the best day of your life. I’ll grab you a glass of water.”
I thanked her as she left the room, passing Kelsey on her way out.
Kelsey frowned at me.
“Everything okay?” She asked, peering between Jill and me.
“Just a little cold foot; but she’s okay,” Jill told her, looking at me nervously. “Right, Erin?”
“I’m fine,” I reassured them both. “I’m just worried that I won’t make a good Luna,” I admitted. “I gave up the fantasy of being Gavin’s Luna a long time ago and now the opportunity is presenting itself again. I don’t want to mess anything up.”
“Gavin has loved you for over a decade,” Kelsey reminded me. “There’s nothing you can do that will mess this up. Plus, you’re carrying his child.”
I knew Kelsey was right; Gavin was tough to scare away.
I would like to know because I’ve tried it for a long time. But he always seemed to find his way back to me.
I turned back to the mirror and stared over once again. Laura had hired the best makeup and hair stylists to help me get dressed and I looked practically unrecognizable. It’s been a long time since I cared this much about my appearance.
I had to admit that I was a spoiled rich girl back in high school; I certainly didn’t want to go back to that old life. Especially considering I got to experience poverty and had to earn my money.
Anna came back a moment later with a glass of water.
“There’s press all over the chapel,” she said, shaking her head with annoyance. “Getting around this place is nearly impossible.”
“I don’t want the press to see me just yet. I can’t let anyone see my dress before I walk down that aisle,” I said quickly, trying to figure out where I should hide.
“Don’t worry. I can avert their attention elsewhere while you finish getting ready,” Jill assured me. “I will see you soon.”
She quickly left the room.
Anna began to apply some finishing touches to my face and added a couple more accessories.
As excited as I was to walk down that aisle, I was also a little sad. I was sad knowing that my parents were going to miss this and that I didn’t have anyone in my family to share this moment with.
Just as I was about to leave the dressing room with Kelsey and Anna trailing behind me. I paused when I saw Theo standing before me.
I gasped at him, not believing that it was actually him and he was out in the open. He wore a nice suit and had his usual shaggy long hair trimmed nicely and tied back into a ponytail.
“You didn’t think I’d miss your wedding; did you?” Theo asked, raising his brows at me. “Somebody has to walk you down the aisle.”
I grabbed Theo’s arm and pulled him out of Kelsey’s ears.
“What about Jessie? Shouldn’t you be out there searching for her still?”
“Erin, I told you, she’s not going to come back just yet. She doesn’t even have an army anymore. She was completely exposed. She’s living her life in hiding right now. It’ll take her a while to gain any kind of respect. Face it… she might still be alive. But she’s been defeated. Take the win.”
I still had an unsettled feeling in the pit of my stomach. But I knew he was right about this.
“Erin, are you ready? They are about to start,” Kelsey said, turning to me.
I nodded to her, trying not to look nervous.
Everyone got into their positions and the music started to play.
Theo held out a hand for me to take and I took it without hesitation. Since coming to this organization, he has been like a father to me. It made sense that he should be the one to walk me down the aisle.
I was glad that he was there.
It wasn’t until the music changed and it was almost my turn to walk down the aisle that the small pup decided to kick me in a brand-new spot, making me grab my stomach in pain.
I groaned loudly, getting the attention of Kelsey.
“Erin? Are you okay?” She asked, rushing toward me.
“Do you need a doctor?” Theo asked; he was ready to make a call.
“No,” I said quickly, trying to catch my breath. “I’m fine. Just some kicking. Get into position.”
Kelsey looked uncertain, but she went back to her position; Theo still looked at me with furrowed eyebrows.
“You don’t look good. You sure you’re, okay?” He asked.
“I’m fine,” I said, trying to give him the best smile I could, but I suddenly felt way too warm.
I took a steady breath, but my saliva grew thick, and my stomach’s discomfort intensified.
I looked up at Theo with mournful eyes.
“I’m so sorry,” I murmured to him just as I bent over and vomited all over his shoes.
