Dr. Cross fell silent for a moment. When she looked at me, her eyes were tinged with a complex, heavy sorrow. 

She pulled a sheet of paper from the file and held it up to my face. 

It was a medical proxy. 

And the signature at the bottom... belonged to Sloane. 

"They never bullied you, Chloe."
