Chapter 5
When Thea said that, Missy got even angrier and snapped, "Ridiculous! I'm her elder! She doesn't even come down to greet me? Who does she think she is? She's nothing but a disgrace!"
Patricia and Charles had officially registered their marriage almost a month ago.
The day Patricia moved into the Anderson Manor, Missy was abroad visiting her daughter who was studying there and taking a little vacation.
She received a call from Thea, informing her that Charles had an illegitimate daughter and William insisted Charles marry her.
Missy was so furious that she immediately booked the next flight home. She wanted to confront her husband about how he could agree to William's nonsense!
Before she could even ask, she was met with a scolding from William as soon as she returned, which only fueled her anger.
She had three children in total. Her eldest son, Charles, was the most outstanding.
The other two, her younger son, was useless and couldn't handle anything, and her daughter was studying abroad.
She had high hopes for Charles since he was young, and he never let her down. He learned business from William and excelled in both business and personal matters.
But now, her outstanding son had been tricked by a woman of unknown origin! How could she accept that?
She met Patricia briefly at the dinner party and didn't interact much, but she had seen plenty of videos about Patricia recently.
No matter how much praise Patricia received, Missy didn't like her! Charles's wife should be a socialite or a wealthy heiress!
Seeing Missy's anger, Thea hoped she would get even angrier, wishing for a dramatic scene.
"That woman really thinks she's something." Thea massaged Missy's shoulders, trying to calm her down. "Ellie, are you sure you won't call her down? This family isn't run by some woman of unknown origin."
Missy felt better hearing Thea's words, and she glanced at Ellie with a commanding tone, "Ellie, what are you doing here? Go now!"
Ellie's legs felt weak. She had worked for the Anderson family for many years and knew who was in charge.
But she couldn't offend these two women, nor could she offend Patricia upstairs.
Although Patricia hadn't been here long and Charles seemed indifferent to her, the fact that he had arranged all her meals and daily details showed that he still cared about Patricia, didn't it?
Ellie was in a dilemma, unsure whether to follow Missy's orders.
Seeing Ellie not moving, Missy grabbed the cup in front of her and smashed it on the ground.
"Are you saying I can't order you around?"
The cup shattered, and the pieces scattered everywhere.
Emily, who was drawing on the floor, started crying loudly, scared out of her wits.
"Stop crying!" Missy was already angry and found everyone annoying, especially this granddaughter she had never met.
"You're just like your mother, annoying! You haven't greeted anyone since we came in. Are you mute?"
Charles had just come home to get something and saw this scene. He quickly walked over and picked up Emily, glaring coldly at Missy and Thea, his eyes filled with anger.
"What is going on here?"
Missy was startled by Charles's sudden return and didn't know what to say for a moment. She gave Thea a look.
"Charles." Thea nervously swallowed.
She was afraid of Charles and never dared to look up when she saw him before. Now, caught in the act, she shrank back.
"Mom and I came over to see Patricia. Ellie said Patricia wouldn't see anyone. Mom came all this way, and she wouldn't come down. We..."
"I'm her mother-in-law. I came here as a guest, and she won't even meet me?" Missy felt justified after hearing Ellie's words.
"Did you need to make such a scene to meet her?" Charles's eyes were cold and frightening.
Missy was at a loss for words and quickly found an excuse, "I didn't mean to. But she's been here for so long and hasn't come to see me. Who knows if she's avoiding me on purpose."
Charles looked at her deeply but said nothing.
Suddenly, Missy remembered the video of Irene at the dinner party she had seen online. She was here at the request of her friend, Edith West, Irene's mother, to ask Charles to clear things up.
"Charles, the issue with Irene is blowing up online. You need to handle it. It's affecting her greatly."
People online were calling Irene cruel, and she was too scared to go out.
Missy had always considered Irene family. If Charles hadn't married another woman out of the blue, she would have considered visiting the Jackson family to discuss their thoughts.
Now, she couldn't be in-laws with them, and seeing people criticize Irene hurt her.
"Clear up what?"
"Irene isn't like that." Missy said anxiously, "Who knows if someone is behind this, maliciously causing trouble?"
"The video is real. There's nothing to clear up." Charles gently patted Emily's back and looked at Ellie. "Where's Patricia?"
Ellie glanced upstairs, "Mrs. Patricia Anderson is resting upstairs and asked not to be disturbed."
Charles frowned and heard Emily sniffle, "Daddy... Mommy isn't feeling well."
"Hmm?"
"Mommy... She doesn't feel well for a few days every month."
Hearing Emily's words, Missy and Thea's faces turned ugly. Wasn't this a slap in their faces?
Charles glanced at them, "Patricia isn't feeling well. We'll meet in a few days."
His gaze fell on Thea, growing colder, "But I don't want my daughter scared like this next time."
"No, it won't happen again." Thea felt her scalp tingle under his gaze.
Missy didn't want to stay longer. She said a few words to Charles and left with Thea.
Outside, Thea couldn't help but mock.
"Mom, Charles didn't seem indifferent to Patricia just now. They seem to have a good relationship."
Thea was jealous. She came from a prestigious family but wasn't valued by her husband. Why should a woman of unknown origin be?
"Good?" Missy recalled the incident and felt angry but didn't want to admit Charles's attitude. "He was just concerned about the child being scared. How much feeling could he have for that woman?"
Thea agreed.
"I think so too. Charles clearly cares about the child."
Inside the room, Ellie stood there, unsure what to do.
Charles asked, "Has she taken her medicine?"
"No, not yet... Mrs. Anderson just said she was going to rest."
Charles nodded, "Bring some honey water up later."
"Okay, okay." Ellie replied cautiously and asked, "Mr. Anderson, will you be having dinner at home?"
Emily heard and whispered to Charles, "Daddy, have dinner with me."
"Alright."
Charles played with Emily for a while longer. When it was time for dinner, he asked another servant to take Emily to eat.
He took the honey water upstairs to check on Patricia.
