Chapter2

That's enough.

Marcus's voice rang out, carrying an undeniable arrogance. The punches and kicks that had landed on me receded like the tide, and I collapsed in the muddy mess of mud and blood, each breath feeling like my lungs were filled with shards of glass.

Marcus strolled leisurely down the steps, his expensive leather boots landing directly in the mud near my ear. "Killing him outright is too boring. Dave, break one of his legs. Then strip the thief naked and throw him out the door. Let our 'hero' get to know the wanderers outside."

I didn't even have the strength to beg for mercy. Dave walked up to me with a sneer, holding a long steel pipe in his hand.

"Go to hell, you selfish pig!" The steel pipe whistled through the air and slammed heavily into my right calf.

The chilling sound of bones shattering echoed through the deathly silent courtyard, followed by my heart-wrenching screams. My lower leg snapped instantly, twisted at a horrifying and bizarre angle.

Several rough hands grabbed me and stripped me of my remaining clothes and boots. I was naked and dragged through the entire camp.

They left me on the highway.

Behind him, the heavy iron door slammed shut, the heavy lock sealing his fate.

From the shadows at the end of the street came eerie guttural sounds and dragging noises ,as hordes of low-level zombies smelled the sweet, pungent scent of fresh flesh.

The laceration on my left shoulder had long been severely infected, and a high fever raged through my blood like wildfire, making my consciousness increasingly blurred.

I gritted my teeth, my fingers digging into the rough, cracked asphalt, dragging my heavy, numb broken leg, crawling forward inch by inch through the ruins.

Just then, carried by the night breeze, a string of silvery laughter drifted out from inside the towering walls.

It's Chloe.

Her flirtatious laughter mingled with the vicious curses of the people inside the walls, creating an extremely jarring sound.

"Did you hear the commotion outside? He deserves to have his bones chewed up by zombies!"

"This is what happens when you betray our shelter! This idiot deserves to die!"

The zombies' dragging footsteps grew closer, and the nauseating stench seemed to be pressed against the back of my neck. I scrambled into a half-collapsed abandoned garage on the street corner, using all my strength to hold the door of a rusty, wrecked car in front of me.

In the dim, cold moonlight, I looked down at my broken body. Broken bone fragments pierced my skin, and bright red blood was seeping steadily into the cold concrete floor of the garage.

My vision began to blur, but I kept my eyes fixed on the direction of the shelter's high walls.

Humiliation, resentment, anger... all these emotions eventually converged into a cold and insane thought.

"As long as I can still breathe..." I murmured to myself, "As long as I don't die... Marcus, Chloe... and all of you... I will make you pay for your crimes in the most desperate way possible!"

Extreme hatred sustained me as I uttered this final, poisonous oath. Then, endless darkness completely engulfed me, my head lolled to the side, and I collapsed unconscious in my own pool of blood.
