Chapter 5 Rescued by Fire and Force

I slept for a little while before a maid knocked on the door to make sure I was awake. I thanked her. She left once I was awake. I got up and really looked at the room. The room was truly exceptional. The green was my favorite color with silver accents. Silver flowers woven into the walls. I walked into the closet and was surprised to find that it was full of more clothes and shoes in my size then I had owned in my whole life.

I took a warm shower feeling all my muscles loosen. I walked back into the closet to look for something to wear. I found a beautiful lavender flowing dress that stopped at my ankles and paired it with silver sandals. I realized as I was walking to door that I wouldn’t know where to go. I was worried until I opened the door to find Carter standing there. He looked up and his eyes grew wide, but he smiled the sweetest smile.

Isabella Reed: “Do I look ok?”

Carter Harrington: “Breathtaking.”

I blushed as he said that. Never getting anything new. No one had ever described me as pretty. The word felt different coming from him. It gave me chills. He reached his hand out to me.

Carter Harrington: “Let’s head to dinner, shall we? My parents can’t wait to get to know you.”

I took his hand and we walked together through the house. It was beautiful. It had high ceilings, paintings, flowers, accents. Everything felt expensive and powerful but also felt like home in a way I could never describe. We walked into a cozy dining room where his parents were already waiting.

Isabella Reed: “I’m sorry if I kept you waiting.”

Alice Harrington: “Oh sweet girl, we haven’t been here long and we don’t mind waiting.”

Parker Harrington: “We are so glad that we get to finally get to know the girl who has had our boy smitten for years.”

Carter Harrington: “Alright, they are exaggerating, it has not been that long.”

We all chuckled and servers brought in food. They placed a plate of food in front of me. It was full of my favorite foods. Roasted chicken, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. The server also placed a small bowl with mac and cheese next to my plate.

Isabella Reed: “This looks amazing. How did you know all of my favorite foods?”

The Harrington parents chuckled again and shared a knowing grin. Carter was the bone blushing now.

Carter Harrington: “I told you I have been paying attention for a while now.”

He looked at me with a wink. We all settled into silence as we ate. This was probably the best meal I had in my whole life. How had I not noticed Carter paying attention all this time. He is so thoughtful. Carter and his dad started talking.

Alice Harrington: “So, Isabella, I hope I did well in all the things I bought for you.”

Isabella Reed: “Everything is perfect. Honestly there are more clothes in that closet than I have had in my whole life. This meal was the best one I’ve ever had.”

Alice Harrington: “I am so glad. Carter has always spoken so highly of you. You are family now sweetie, we will always take care of you.”

Isabella Reed: “Mrs. Harrington, I just want to say thank you. I don’t need all of this though. I have survived on a lot less. You don’t need to trouble yourself. I am not worth it.”

Alice Harrington: “My girl, just call me Alice. I know that we don’t need to do all this, we want to. I have always wanted a daughter I can spoil. It’s our honor to help you. We have wanted to meet you since Carter first mentioned you.”

Isabella Reed: “Thank you… Alice. Just know that I am forever grateful for all of this. It’s more than I could have ever dreamed of. My room is amazing. It’s like a dream.”

Alice Harrington: “You mentioned in passing that you love that color green, and I saw you at your job one day, you typically wear silver jewelry, so I thought it was a good choice. The flowers are obvious. I am so glad that you love it.”

Isabella Reed: “You could have taken it from my dreams.”

Alice Harrington: “Maybe we could go shopping the two of us before you go back to school.”

Isabella Reed: “I am not sure I will be able to go back. I needed to work the entire break to pay for it. I will just need to make the money. I will take the semester off so that I can work to save.”

Carter and his dad had stopped speaking while I was explaining my plan.

Parker Harrington: “Isabella, we will be paying for your education. There is no need for you to work.”

Isabella Reed: “I could never ask you to do that. That is way too much”

Parker Harrington: “You didn’t ask. We want to do this for you. My wife and Carter have said it and now so will I, you are family now. It is my responsibility to make sure you have a chance to finish your education. Besides, while you were unconscious, I did some digging into your school records, you are a very promising healer, top of your class. We need healers and people like you who want to help others.”

My jaw dropped. These people. I had never known care like this. He took the time to look at my grades and even said how much healers like me are needed. Alice took the time to buy things that I like and plan a dream room for me. Carter, paying attention all this time, feeling a pull that I couldn’t even sense until my power came forward. He gave me all of this.

Isabella Reed: “Thank you. I won’t let you down. I would still like to volunteer. I have been helping in a children’s home for years. They count on me. I also will need to finish up at the coffee house and help them train someone else to take my spot.”
