Chapter 4 Chapter 4. Faye's Calculations
Seeing Zephyr holding the marrow donation agreement in his hand, a glimmer of light flashed in Faye’s eyes. It seemed she had been worrying for nothing. How could Zephyr possibly like Zoria?
Zoria had not slept the entire night. She had only given her forehead wound a careless bandage before lying on the sofa until dawn. The waves of stomach pain left her trembling, yet all she could do was count the frantic rhythm of her own heartbeat until morning came. She thought that by now Zephyr had already woken up in bed with that female. She had no desire to see them.
When Zoria rose from the sofa, her vision darkened and her head spun. If she had not quickly grabbed the armrest, she might have collapsed to the floor.
Waiting until the dizziness eased, she slowly walked outside. As she approached the dining room, she came across a maid carrying a tray with two bowls of meat soup. The moment the maid saw Zoria, she forced a stiff smile. "Madam, you are at home too? I am so sorry, I did not prepare breakfast for you."
At a glance, Zoria knew exactly who the soup was meant for. Until now, she had always assumed the maid despised her because she was merely an Omega with a tainted bloodline who had somehow become mate to a powerful Alpha like Zephyr. But only now did she realize that sometimes people hated others for no reason at all.
Zoria washed her face with cold water and lifted her gaze to the mirror. Her complexion was pale, her eyes weary, and an ugly bandage still clung to her forehead. She looked both foolish and unsightly.
Unbidden, an image flashed in her mind of the female lying in bed with Zephyr. Though she had only caught a glimpse once, there was no denying that female was far more beautiful than she was. No wonder Zephyr preferred her.
The sound of footsteps echoed behind her. Startled, Zoria turned slowly. She saw Zephyr walking over with Faye in his arms, the two of them looking so close, so intimate. The maid even fussed over them as if they were the true masters of the castle. The sight pierced Zoria’s heart like another knife.
They looked every bit a couple, while Zoria seemed nothing more than a stranger.
Faye cast Zoria a fleeting, timid glance before pressing herself closer to Zephyr, as though declaring her claim.
"Ms. Everhart, would you like to eat with us?"
Zephyr frowned slightly "Don't pay attention to her."
Zoria bit her lip and turned away. Outside, the wind blew fiercely, and the fog hung thick, just like her mood at that moment. In the cold wind, she pulled her thin clothes tighter around her, her nose stinging. She could not collapse. She had to be strong, because she was carrying a small life within her.
It was fine without Zephyr. From the moment he spoke the words "sever the bond," she knew their relationship would end sooner or later. Now she needed to learn to adapt. For many years, she had grown used to Zephyr's indifference, so how could she not endure life without him?
Zoria stood at the door, shivering from the cold, and had to wait nearly an hour before she saw Zephyr appear. Of course, Faye was still by his side.
Faye looked at Zoria with a hint of surprise, clearly not expecting her to still be there.
"Let's go," Zephyr said to Zoria.
But just as Zephyr and Zoria were about to leave, Faye ran in front of them and deliberately adjusted Zephyr's collar, even though it was already neat. That action made Zoria's heart ache.
Zephyr treated Faye completely differently from Zoria. He would smile, hold Faye's small hands, and gently remind her "It's very cold outside, go inside quickly." It was as if they were flaunting their affection right in front of Zoria, an outsider.
"Be good, go rest now. You have surgery tomorrow."
"Then you should go home early."
"I’m only going to the court for a little while, it won't take long." Zephyr stroked Faye's head, speaking gently, "Go inside!"
Faye nodded, then, seemingly on purpose, moved closer to Zephyr and lightly kissed his lips before leaving. Before stepping into the house, she glanced back at Zoria. Only a few meters away, yet it felt like she was showing off.
Zoria stood silently beside them, watching. The wind today was fierce, harsh enough to make her eyes ache. She felt nonexistent, merely a space beside Zephyr, witnessing him watch Faye go into the house.
Was this really necessary?
Zoria suddenly remembered, every time Zephyr left, she would clingingly watch his back. But never, not even once, had she received the same treatment from him as Faye did.
Zephyr sat in the front driver's seat, while Zoria sat in the back. Her face was pale, she lowered her head, and took out her phone to search: Can a pregnant female donate bone marrow? The results showed: this would harm the fetus, doctors advised against surgery. If the mother's body was weak, it could even lead to signs of premature labor.
Zoria's heart tightened. Her baby was only a little over a month old, still in a dangerous stage. Evander had once told her that her pregnancy was already risky, let alone donating bone marrow at this time.
Zoria raised her head and accidentally met Zephyr's icy gaze in the rearview mirror, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.
"Can the bone marrow donation be postponed until September?"
Zephyr looked at her coldly, then after a moment, the corner of his mouth curled up into a sarcastic smile. "How do you want to give birth to that trash in your womb?"
"Zephyr, I beg you… can you let her take some medicine to hold on for now? The baby is mine, I have nothing left, only him. Please, wait until September. As soon as I give birth, I will donate my bone marrow immediately."
"The trash in your womb has nothing to do with me. The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. If you fail to cooperate and something happens to Faye, I will take your life!"
