Chapter 6 CHAPTER SIX

ROMAN’S POV

I watched Emily, the heartbreak on her face at what she was witnessing, tugging at my heartstrings. The first day I saw Emily, she was barely hanging on.

Her wolf had been badly injured. Me and Stefan had been playing at the edge of the pack’s boundary, when I perceived a mouth watering scent. It smelled like apple cider, with a mixture of chocolate baked pie. I had quickly followed the scent.

Confused, and shocked at the sight before me. Stefan was by my side speechless. A tiny wolf was lying close to the boulder of our pack, its body covered with blood. I rushed forward, checking if it was still alive, sighing in relief as I felt a weak pulse from the wolf. I carried the wolf back to the pack, Stefan close behind, as I rushed towards the pack infirmary.

It took her four months to recover, with me always by her side. I was there day in and night, unable to totally leave her side. Our Alpha had to use his Alpha voice, to command me to leave her side, and even at that it was still very hard.

I was still too young to understand what everyone at the pack already suspected, Emily was my Mate.

It was not unheard of for a wolf to find his or her mate at a young age, and we had been coached enough times to know what to expect.

Yet, it was completely different from what I expected.

At a point, Emily had woken up, scared to her wits. For a pup wolf, she was very strong. It had taken two of our pack warriors to subdue her. After hearing about it, I had urged Stefan to follow me to the pack infirmary, unable to stay away for too long.

We sneaked inside, going straight to the room she was in. This close up, her scent was too strong, the force of it weakening my body. Yet like a siren call, I urged faster, the need to be close to her stronger.

I stopped at the door, my gaze on her. Most of the wounds were fully healed already, she was in her human form. Her pale skin smooth and flawless, her hair cascading down to her shoulders, the nurse had dressed her in a simple hospital gown.

She looked like an Angel, resting peacefully. I walked tentatively towards her, taking her small hands into mine, the contact easing my restless wolf.

“Wow!!!!” She is all healed up Stefan said, coming to stand close to her, as he stretched his hands to her face.

I slapped his hands away, I didn’t want him touching her. My wolf was already on alert, with his presence in the same room as her. His scent, contaminating the room.

He looked at me strangely, before shifting his attention to the room. His childish mischievous mind, already occupied with something else.

I sat down on the bed, my hands running over hers. blushing as I stared at her face, I wondered what her name was, or where she was from. My heart broke, wondering who could possibly have done such a thing to someone this innocent.

I froze as I looked up. Her eyes were open wide as she took me in, a stranger holding her hands. As much as it pained me to, I tried to retract my hand but she grabbed it, holding onto it with all her might.

Help!!! Me she whispered, her eyes wide as she took in her surroundings. Stefan rushed to her side, a wide smile on his face.

““ It's ok, you are safe here. What’s your name?”” he asked, gushing excitedly.

““Stop it!,”” I chielded him.

Emily, she croaked out. My heart pounded at the sound of her name, my wolf whispering the name repeatedly in my head.

Miss Falcon, the pack doctor came into the room, rushing towards Emily, a scowl on her face as she glanced towards me and Stefan.

We stood aside, knowing we were in trouble for sneaking in, as Miss Falcon checked on Emily’s vitals.

After she finished, she turned towards us, her hands on her hips. “What were you thinking?" she asked, her gaze directed towards me.

I opened my mouth to respond, but she shushed me. “This is not like you Roman, I expect you to keep Stefan in line, but here you are, enabling him in this childishness.””

I bit my lips, My eyes cast down. I also didn’t know why I couldn’t stay away from the girl, there was just something interesting about her.

Miss Falcon asked us to go back, but not before warning us, not to come to the infirmary again without permission.

I left reluctantly, rubbing my aching chest, as I cried.

“What is wrong with you?”” Stefan asked, puzzled at my behavior.

I wiped my tears, embarrassed. I never cried, my father had always told me that only weak men did, yet for some unknown reason, I was crying for someone I didn’t even know.

“It’s nothing, I told Stefan.”” I couldn’t explain it to myself, how was I going to explain it to him?

When I got home that night, my father had called me into his office, the news already reaching him. He told me how disappointed he was with me, ranting about how it was my job, as the next beta of the pack. To guard the Alpha, and be the voice of reason especially when Stefan acts out.

I was not allowed to make mistakes. I had quietly whispered, that it was me who had wanted to sneak inside the infirmary. Promptly, shutting my father up.

He scowled at me, shaking his head as he asked me to go to my room.

Later that day as we all sat on the dining table, I pushed my food around, one question running through my mind.

““How do you know your mate?”” I asked aloud, my voice ringing round the table.

Bella, my senior sister, paused, her head lifting up from her phone where she had been typing aggressively.

“Well it’s like a star exploding in your mind," she said, nodding her head, as if her simple yet unsatisfying answer could settle the tornado swirling in my mind.

I sighed, disappointed with her answer.

“Why are you asking, son ?" my father asked, before sharing a quiet look with my mother.

“I don’t know, it’s just how I feel when I see Emily.”” It’s confusing, I said, refusing to meet his gaze.

“How do you feel dear? my mother asked softly.””

“I!!! I paused, gathering my thoughts.”” It’s like this overwhelming urge to be close to her, her scent is so enticing and different. I asked Stefan what she smelled like, and what he described was not what I smelled. And I don’t know, it’s just the feeling and how my wolf behaves since he saw her I said, blushing at how I sounded.

“Wow!!!! Has my baby brother gotten a mate,”” Bella said, grinning at me.

I rolled my eyes at her, before glancing towards my father.

“Eat your food," my father said simply, before continuing his, completely disregarding the topic.

I glanced towards my mum, who smiled gently at me, nodding to signify that we would discuss later.

After clearing the table, I went to my room, plunging on my bed with a sigh. I lifted my head at the soft tap against my window, frowning as I wondered what Stefan could possibly want by this time.

I stood up, walking towards the window, before gently raising it up. My eyes widening in shock, at the sight of Emily, covered in blood, standing there naked!!!.

Help!!! me, she said, before collapsing.
