“I'll be there,” I said into the phone as I walked toward my car. I placed the phone on Bluetooth, turned the engine on, and drove away from the compound.

“As you should… I can't believe you left again,” my dad said grimly through the speaker.

I didn't say anything, and he hung up after that....
